“Four Horsemen”

directed by Ross Ashcroft

This  British documentary criticises the system of fractional reserve banking, debt-based economy and political lobbying by banks, which it regards as a serious threat to Western civilisation. It criticises the War on Terror, which it maintains is not fought to eliminate al-Qaeda and other militant organizations, but to create larger debt to the banks. As an alternative, the film promotes a return to classical economics and the gold standard. Among those interviewed are Joseph Stieglitz, former chief economist at the World Bank; Noam Chomsky, linguistics professor; John Perkins, author of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man; ecological economist and steady-state theorist Herman Daly, formerly at the World Bank; and Max Keiser, TV host and former trader. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 14 March 2012. A book based on the film has been published.

As an elite class rules with unparalleled power and unchecked corruption, and a general population sits narcotized by a widespread sense of apathy, America seems doomed to fall as many other empires have done throughout history. So say the filmmakers behind the award-winning feature-length documentary Four Horsemen. This compelling film provides a thorough diagnosis of the country's massive societal and organizational ills, and offers several thoughtful remedies along the way.

Are we really experiencing the death gasps of the American dream? As a means of comparison, the filmmakers set forth the blueprint of Ancient Rome's demise. This tumultuous period was characterized by a growing disparity between the rich and the poor, unabated abuses of power, a debasement of currency, and a desire among the masses to be controlled. Sound familiar? While some of these comparisons presented in the film are downright ridiculous - are celebrity chefs really a sign of America's oncoming apocalypse? - much of the analogy rings true and resonant.

This is not a religious documentary, but the disaster it outlines is almost biblical in its scope. The four horsemen of the title refers to US-led financial wrongdoings, escalating violence, deplorable conditions of poverty, and looming environmental catastrophe. The film contends that the driving force behind this doomsday plot is the new morality in America: money. The country has gone far afield from a true free market system where wealth is shared and benefits all. Capitalism may be on the brink of extinction. Today, in the midst of massive deregulation and corporate greed, the country's financial institutions are operating only in their own self-interests. Politicians are owned by corporations, and the wars they wage are merely vehicles to drive profits.

In the film's estimation, the real threat lies with an American public that generally accepts the misinformation they're fed without question or protest. Millions have lost their homes and life savings, and their children are being killed in unnecessary wars. Are the American people fearful of taking a stand, or simply not understanding of the complexities at play? Whatever the reason, Four Horsemen hopes to educate this audience, rally their collective outcry, and inspire a movement for change.

Subject: “A Glass Half Full”: The idealist fallacy of misplaced concreteness.

March 18, 2022

Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,

On this the 151st  anniversary of The Paris Commune, we stop to meditate on the heroic struggle against capitalist control of the political economy and a deeper understanding of the morbidity of the universal governance by “The Dictatorship of Capital”  using the private profit motive as an instrument of domination.

While Marx counseled the communards against the use of revolutionary violence on pragmatic grounds before the event of March 18, 1871, he subsequently stood with the revolutionaries in honor of the martyrs of this revolution attempt, “who stormed heaven” in their search for justice. Who could be against this democratic urge for social equality which lies beneath the surface of every person who suffers exploitation and oppression? The stagey was correct; the tactics, terribly flawed. The high cost of this failed revolution is instructive and must never be forgotten.

The descendants of historic class struggles now, more urgently than ever, call for: “Science for the People.”

The 21 + items below reflect the multiple crises we are now facing in this historic shift in world capitalism. The sophomoric temptation to choose sides in this “game” for corporate capitalist advantage is orchestrated to preempt social class struggle, and an international “Union Sacrée” is promoted for the purpose of enshrining notions of self-sacrifice and national identity, in place of class consciousness and true solidarity with mutual interests.

“Get along, go along,” has become the new philosophy of imperialist expansion; as usual, “when the elephants fight, only the grass gets trampled.”

On the Edge of a Nuclear Abyss

by Edwad Curitn

Two days after Russia attacked Ukraine and the day before Vladimir Putin put Russia on nuclear alert, I wrote a little article whose first sentence was: “Not wanting to sound hyperbolic, but I am starting to conclude that the nuclear madmen running the U.S./NATO New Cold War they started decades ago are itching to start a nuclear war with Russia.”

It was an intuition based on my knowledge of U.S./Russia history, including the U.S engineered coup in Ukraine in 2014, and a reading of current events. I refer to it as intuition, yet it is based on a lifetime’s study and teaching of political sociology and writing against war. I am not a Russian scholar, simply a writer with a sociological, historical, and artistic imagination, although my first graduate academic study in the late 1960s was a thesis on nuclear weapons and why they might be someday used again.

It no longer sounds hyperbolic to me that madmen in the declining U.S. Empire might resort, like rats in a sinking ship, to first strike use of nuclear weapons, which is official U.S. policy. My stomach is churning at the thought, despite what most experts say: that the chances of a nuclear war are slight. And despite what others say about the Ukraine war: that it is an intentional diversion from the Covid propaganda and the Great Reset (although I agree it achieves that goal).

My gut tells me no; it is very real, sui generis, and very, very dangerous now.

"We are not only fighting for Ukraine. We are fighting for the New World Order," says Ukrainian MP

by Mark Crispin Miller

Ukrainian member of Parliament Kira Rudik stated in an interview over the weekend with Fox News that she and her fellow Ukrainian citizens are not only fighting Russia to save their own country but to save the “new world order that includes all the other democratic countries.”

Of course “democratic” is in the eye of the beholder. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau says he’s for “preserving our Democracy” too, even while he was locking truck drivers out of their bank accounts and towing their trucks away to be expropriated by the state. The truckers’ crime? They did not agree with Trudeau’s Covid vaccine mandates and mask mandates.
