Despair & Hope in the Age of Genocide.
Dear
Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,
The
German artist George Grosz, known for his caricatural drawings and paintings of Berlin life in the
1920s, during the Weimar Republic, once wrote, “If
you want to see the effects of a degenerate society that endorses predatory behavior
including mass murder, just look in the mirror.”
The
21+ items below confront the massive alienation we are experiencing
today, under a criminal leadership which depends on popular collaboration to
accomplish its aimless goals. These critical articles and essays, taken from
the Anglophone social media, represent the harbinger of progressive change,
when at last the failures of the past are discussed openly and analyzed with
the view of a better collective future. It’s not too soon ….

“The Long Awaited Debate Of

by
Pierre Kory, MD, MPA
The
College is trying to punish Dr. Charles Hoffe for
numerous 100% scientifically accurate statements on multiple aspects of Covid science. Here is the first part of my expert defense
testimony. . . .
Canadian community doctor Dr. Charles Hoffe was one of the first to notice something was “wrong”
with the vaccines in April 2021 after he witnessed terrible injuries (strokes
etc.) and even a death in the patients he was vaccinating. He then wrote an
open letter to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia with
his observations and concerns, suggesting that perhaps the jabs should be put

“Hypothetical ‘Disease X’: The WHO Pandemic Treaty
is A Fraud. Demands Compliance for ‘Next Pandemic’”
by Steve Watson and Prof Michel Chossudovsky
Introduction
WHO
Director General Tedros Adhanom
Ghebreyesus, continues to mislead public opinion
Worldwide.
There is no such thing as “Disease
X”. It’s a hypothetical construct by a WHO expert committee (2017-2018) of
virologists and disease analysts. It was then envisaged in the Clade X Simulation (May 2018) and Event 201 Simulation
of a Pandemic (October 2019). Both events were held under the auspices of
the John Hopkins Center for Heath Security with the support of the Gates
Foundation.
It was
then announced by Bill Gates at the Munich Security Conference in February 2022:
“The
risks of severe disease from Covid-19 have “dramatically reduced” but another pandemic is all but certain”. says Bill Gates.
“A
potential new pandemic would likely stem from a different pathogen to that of
the coronavirus family” (CNBC).
“We’ll
have another pandemic. It will be a different pathogen next time,” Gates said.
How
could he know this in advance?
“Predicting”
and “Preparing” for “Disease X”, An Unknown Threat
In
his presentation at the Davos24 WEF, the WHO Director General Dr.Tedros recanted Bill Gates’ premonition, pointing to the
alleged severity of the Covid-19 crisis initiated in early 2020,
in blatant contradiction with official WHO data.
Bill Gates is Tedros’ Mentor. They have a close personal relationship, which occasionally
borders on “conflict of interest”.
Bill
Gates, Tedros et al (supported by the WHO “committee
of experts”) are now predicting “Disease X” which stems
from a hypothetical pathogen which is allegedly 20 times more
deadly than SARS-CoV-2. What absolute nonsense.
“Aside
from the fact that it will wreak havoc on humanity, the research team has no idea about the nature of the pathogen”

“There Never Was a "New Corona Virus",
There Never Was a Pandemic”

by Prof Michel Chossudovsky
This article focusing
on the alleged novel corona virus is among the most important articles I have
written.
There is an element
of simplicity and common sense in the text. My objective is that the article
will be extensively read and debated at the grassroots of society, not
only by scientists and medical doctors. The complexity of this crisis is
overwhelming. This is not solely a “Public Health Crisis”.
The implications
are far-reaching because the article refutes and invalidates ‘everything”
pertaining to the Covid pandemic. These include
the policies related to The Lockdown
and the Covid-19 “Vaccine”, not to mention the infamous Pandemic Treaty
and The World Economic Forum’s “Great Reset”.
The official “corona
narrative” is predicated on a “Big Lie” endorsed by corrupt politicians.
That “official
consensus” is exceedingly fragile. Our intent is to precipitate its collapse
“like a house of cards”.
What is ultimately at stake is the value of human life and the
future of humanity.
Our objective is to save lives
including those of newly born babies who are the victims of the
Covid-19 “Vaccine”.
At this juncture in
our history, the priority is to “Disable the Fear Campaign” and “Cancel
the Vaccine” (including the repeal of the so-called “Pandemic Treaty”).
Hopefully this will
set the stage for the development of a Worldwide
movement of solidarity, which questions the legitimacy of the powerful “Big
Money” financial elites which are behind this infamous project.

“Pfizer's ‘Secret’ Report on the Covid Vaccine. Beyond Manslaughter.
The Evidence is Overwhelming. The Vaccine Should Be Immediately Withdrawn
Worldwide”
by Prof Michel Chossudovsky
Introduction
and Update
Why
has the “Confidential Pfizer report”
made public under Freedom of Information (FOI) in October 2021 not been quoted
or referred to in parliamentary and public enquiries as a means to refuting the official narrative
(which contends that the Covid-19 vaccine is “safe and effective”). Neither has
it been the object of media coverage.
We
have documented numerous public enquiries. The most recent are the hearings in the
Australian Senate. (August
2023)
The
evidence amply confirms that the Pfizer vaccine is a dangerous substance,
resulting in deaths and adverse events. This is confirmed by the Pfizer Confidential Report released under
FOI in October 2021. It come’s from the Horse’s Mouth.

Study: Cancer Related
Excess Mortality in England and Wales
A
recent study on vaccine related excess mortality conducted by the team
of Edward Dowd confirms
the nature of the mRNA vaccine.
Dowd’s
method was to analyze the number of deaths attributed to cancer in England
and Wales between 2010 and 2022 [based on data] from the U.K. Office
for National Statistics
He
compared excess death rates, the difference between observed deaths and the
baseline for expected deaths, before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
He
established a baseline of normal cancer death rates from 2010-2020 that was
remarkably consistent with few deviations, he said — until the cancer death
rates rose significantly in late 2021 in the U.K. following the vaccine rollout”
The
table below pertains to excess deaths related to malignant
neoplasm (cancerous tumor) in England and Wales, recorded in three
consecutive years: 2020, 2021, and 2022 vs. a 10 year trend (2010-2019).
The
data for excess mortality in 2020 (the year prior to the vaccine) are negative with the exception of “malignant neoplasm without
specification of site”.
The
vaccine was launched in December 2020
The
COVID-19 vaccine was rolled-out in several phases in England and Wales starting on December 8, 2020 and extending into March-April 2021.
The
upward movement in excess mortality (%) commences in 2021. The increase in
excess mortality related to malignant neoplasm is tabulated for the two
first years of the vaccine.

dimensions of this global crisis. Citations from

each of the paragraphs indicate the original source of the quotation.
The Globalization of War. America’s Long War against Humanity
1. The US has embarked on a
military adventure, “a long war”, which threatens the future of humanity.
US-NATO weapons of mass destruction are portrayed as instruments of peace.
2. Major military and covert intelligence operations are being undertaken simultaneously in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and the Far East. The US military agenda combines both major theater operations as well as covert actions geared towards destabilizing sovereign states.
3. “[The] Five-year campaign plan [includes]… a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan.” General Wesley Clark in “Winning Modern Wars” (page 130)
4. In 2005, former Vice President Dick Cheney hinted, in no uncertain terms, that Iran was “right at the top of the list” of the “rogue enemies” of America, and that Israel would, so to speak, “be doing the bombing for us without being asked”, i.e without US military involvement and without us putting pressure on them “to do it”. This foreign policy stance still prevails under Obama.
9/11 and The Global War on Terrorism (GWOT)
5. The “war on terrorism” is a war of conquest. Globalization is the final march to the “New World Order”, dominated by Wall Street and the U.S. military-industrial complex.
6. September 11, 2001 provides a justification for waging a war without borders. Washington’s agenda consists in extending the frontiers of the American Empire to facilitate complete U.S. corporate control, while installing within America the institutions of the Homeland Security State.
7“The forbidden truth” is that Western governments including US, UK, France, NATO and Israel –while waging a self-proclaimed “Global War on Terrorism”– routinely provide covert support to the same terrorist entities which are the object of their “humanitarian wars” and “counter-terrorism operations”.
War and the Economic Crisis
8. In all major regions of the world, the economic recession is deep-seated, resulting in mass unemployment, the collapse of state social programs and the impoverishment of millions of people.
9. The economic crisis is accompanied by a worldwide process of militarization, a “war without borders” led by the United States of America and its NATO allies. The conduct of the Pentagon’s “long war” is intimately related to the restructuring of the global economy.
10. “The Pentagon’s ‘black’ operations, including the intelligence budgets nested inside it, are roughly equal in magnitude to the entire defense budgets of the UK, France or Japan, and ten percent of the total.” (Tom Burghardt) . . . . n° 99 .

Watch “Decisions,
overwhelmingly wrong”

with Dr. John Campbell
(3:01)
I will be
brief, because it is clear that there is far more demand to speak in the debate
than there is time. That shows that we absolutely need a longer debate; we need
a debate on the Floor of the House, because it is not just Members present who
want to speak, and members of the public have shown enormous interest. I will
not go over the excellent points that have been made and the data that has been
shared. We know we have a problem in this country with excess deaths,
particularly among younger people and particularly from cardiovascular disease.
That, in itself, is a huge challenge. We need medical experts and statisticians
to address those issues—I am not qualified to do so. What I will say is this:
lockdown changed everything. Our response to covid
changed everything. Just as we look back on different periods of history—before
the war; before the industrial revolution—I believe we will look back at before
and after lockdown. Lockdown has changed our economy and how we relate to each
other. It has changed our health and our understanding of children’s
development. The conditions under which those decisions were made—decisions
that were overwhelmingly wrong, in my opinion, although I do not blame any
individuals, given the pressure they were under—have not changed. The
conditions under which we suspended the precautionary principle, ignored the
fact that interventions may cause harm, suspended the importance of children’s
education, suspended the safeguarding of children, suspended the need for
medical trials and suspended all sorts of safeguards that have stood society in
good stead for a long time have not changed. The conditions in Government, the
media and wider society under which those decisions were made have not changed
because, unfortunately, we have not yet got to the heart of the matter. Why did
that pressure come from the media? Why did we have to follow what other
countries were doing? Why were we obsessed with particular points of data, such
as deaths from covid, rather than considering the
wider impact on society? My concern about the covid
inquiry is that it is asking all the wrong questions. It is concerned with who
swore at whom on WhatsApp,
and not the wider conditions under which decisions were made. When, several
Education Secretaries ago, the former, former, former Secretary of State for
Education, my right hon. Friend the Member for South Staffordshire (Sir Gavin
Williamson), stood up in the House of Commons and said that he would close
schools, I remember, as a mother, shouting at the television, “Don’t do it!
Don’t do it!”. I could see the impact it would
have—not just on my own children, but across all the wider components of
society. Society is like a big machine; we cannot just take out one part and
assume that the rest will continue to operate. We have seen that clearly over
the past three years. We must address the reasons why these decisions were
made. We cannot do that in three minutes each—we must have a longer debate.

Debbie Lerman explains how a war on terror
emergency provision to protect us from weapons of mass destruction was used for
the procurement and development of covid vaccines.
|
|
In Part 1 of this series, I reviewed the contractual and regulatory framework applied by the US government to the initial development, manufacture, and acquisition of the Covid mRNA shots, using the BioNTech/Pfizer agreements to illustrate the process.
I showed that Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) was granted to these products based on clinical trials and manufacturing processes conducted with
In this follow-up article, I will provide a detailed analysis of the underlying documentation.
Other Transaction Authority/Agreement (OTA): A Military Acquisition Pathway
The agreement between the US government, represented by the Department of Defense (DoD), and Pfizer, representing the BioNTech/Pfizer partnership, in July 2020, for the purchase of a “vaccine to prevent COVID-19” was not an ordinary acquisition contract.
It was an agreement under Other Transaction Authority (OTA) – an acquisition pathway that, according to Department of Defense guidelines, has been used since 1958 to “permit a federal agency to enter into transactions other than contracts, grants, or cooperative agreements.”
A thorough review of the use of OTA by the DoD, including its statutory history, can be found in the February 22, 2019 Congressional Research Service report. This report, along with every other discussion of OTA, specifies that it is an alternative acquisition path for defense and military purposes. It is not intended, nor has it ever been used before Covid, for anything intended primarily for civilian use.
If you look for OTA laws in the US Code, this is the path you will go down:
Armed Forces -> General Military Law -> Acquisition -> Research and Engineering -> Agreements -> Authority of the DoD to carry out certain prototype projects
This legal pathway very clearly shows that OTA laws are intended for acquisition of research and engineering prototypes for the armed forces.
According to the DARPA website,
The Department of Defense has authority for three different types of OTs: (1) research OTs, (2) prototype OTs, and (3) production OTs.
These three types of OTs represent three stages of initial research, development of a prototype, and eventual production.
Within those three types, there are specific categories of projects to which OTA can apply:
So far, none of that sounds like an acquisition pathway for millions of novel medical products intended primarily for civilian use.
Is There any Exception for Civilian Use of OTA That Might Apply to Covid mRNA Vaccines?
The FY2004 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 108-136) contained a section that gave Other Transaction Authority to “the head of an executive agency who engages in basic research, applied research, advanced research, and development projects” that “have the potential to facilitate defense against or recovery from terrorism or nuclear, biological, chemical or radiological attack.”
This provision was extended until 2018, but does not appear to have been extended beyond that year. Also, note that even in this exceptional case of non-DoD use of OTA, the situation must involve terrorism or an attack with weapons of mass destruction (CBRN).
What Other OTA Laws Might Apply?
The 2019 CRS report cited above provides this chart, showing that a few non-DoD agencies have some OTA or related authorities:
According to this table, The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has some research and development (R&D) Other Transaction Authorities. The law pertaining to the OT Authority of HHS is 42 U.S.C. §247d-7e.
Where is this law housed and what does it say?
The Public Health and Welfare -> Public Health Service -> General Powers and Duties -> Federal-State Cooperation -> Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) -> Transaction Authorities
So there is a place in the law related to civilian health and welfare where OTA might be applicable, although it is valid only for research and development, not prototypes or manufacturing.
The law states that the BARDA secretary has OT Authority
with respect to a product that is or may become a qualified countermeasure or a qualified pandemic or epidemic product, activities that predominantly—
(i) are conducted after basic research and preclinical development of the product; and
(ii) are related to manufacturing the product on a commercial scale and in a form that satisfies the regulatory requirements under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act [21 U.S.C. 301 et seq.] or under section 262 of this title.
The “regulatory requirements” enumerated in the law mean that it would be impossible for BARDA/HHS to enter into agreements – even just R&D – for any medical products (like the mRNA vaccines) that did not undergo rigorous safety testing and strict manufacturing oversight.
HHS “Partnership” with DoD Circumvented Civilian Protection Laws
To summarize the predicament of Other Transaction Authority/Agreements with respect to civilian authorities, in general, and Covid mRNA vaccines, in particular:
In other words: There is no way HHS could have used its very limited OTA to sign contracts for hundreds of millions of novel medical products.
So what did HHS do?
As the Government Accountability Office (GAO) noted in its July 2021 report on “Covid-19 Contracting:” HHS “partnered” with DoD to “leverage DoD’s OTA authorities…which HHS lacked.” (p. 24)
What are DoD’s OT Authorities for Medical Products?
As discussed, OTA is intended to help the military get equipment and technology without lots of bureaucratic hassle. None of the original laws pertaining to OTA mentioned anything other than “platforms, systems, components, or materials” intended to “enhance the mission effectiveness of military personnel.”
But five years before Covid, an exceptional use of OTA was introduced:
In 2015, DoD announced the establishment of the CBRN Medical Countermeasure Consortium, whose purpose was to use the OTA acquisition pathway to “work with DoD to develop FDA licensed chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear medical countermeasures.” [FDA = Food & Drug Administration]
As described in the 2015 announcement, this included “prototype technologies for therapeutic medical countermeasures targeting viral, bacterial, and biological toxin targets of interest to the DoD.” The list of agents included the top biowarfare pathogens, such as anthrax, ebola, and marburg.
The announcement went on to specify that “enabling technologies can include animal models of viral, bacterial or biological toxin disease and pathogenesis (multiple routes of exposure), assays, diagnostic technologies or other platform technologies that can be applied to development of approved or licensed MCMs [medical countermeasures].”
Although this still does not sound anything like the production of 100 million novel vaccines for civilian use, it does provide more leeway for OTA than the very limited Other Transaction Authority given to HHS.
While the HHS OTA requires adherence to extensive development and manufacturing regulations, the OTA pathway for the DoD to develop medical countermeasures requires only “FDA licensure.”
Thus, using DoD Other Transaction Authorities, it would theoretically be possible to bypass any safety regulations – depending on the requirements for FDA licensing of an OTA-generated product. As we will see, in the case of the Covid mRNA vaccines, Emergency Use Authorization was granted, requiring no legal safety oversight at all.
Emergency Use Authorization (EUA)
Here’s how the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) describes its EUA powers:
Section 564 of the FD&C Act (21 U.S.C. 360bbb–3) allows FDA to strengthen public health protections against biological, chemical, nuclear, and radiological agents.
With this EUA authority, FDA can help ensure that medical countermeasures may be used in emergencies to diagnose, treat, or prevent serious or life-threatening diseases or conditions caused by biological, chemical, nuclear, or radiological agents when there are no adequate, approved, and available alternatives (among other criteria).
It’s extremely important to understand that these EUA powers were granted in 2004 under very specific circumstances related to preparedness for attacks by weapons of mass destruction, otherwise known as CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) agents.
As explained in Harvard Law’s Bill of Health,
Ultimately, it was the War on Terror that would give rise to emergency use authorization. After the events of September 11, 2001 and subsequent anthrax mail attacks, Congress enacted the Project Bioshield Act of 2004. The act called for billions of dollars in appropriations for purchasing vaccines in preparation for a bioterror attack, and for stockpiling of emergency countermeasures. To be able to act rapidly in an emergency, Congress allowed FDA to authorize formally unapproved products for emergency use against a threat to public health and safety (subject to a declaration of emergency by HHS). The record indicates that Congress was focused on the threat of bioterror specifically, not on preparing for a naturally-occurring pandemic.
The wording of the EUA law underscores the fact that it was intended for use in situations involving weapons of mass destruction. Here are the 4 situations in which EUA can be issued:
Nowhere in these four situations is there any mention of a naturally occurring epidemic, pandemic, or any other kind of public health situation that is not caused by “biological, chemical, radiological or nuclear agent/s.”
Could SARS-CoV-2 qualify as such an agent?
If you look for the definition of “biological agents” in the US Legal Code, you will go down the following pathway:
Crimes and Criminal Procedure -> Crimes -> Biological Weapons -> Definitions
So in the context of United States law, the term “biological agents” means biological weapons, and the use of such agents/weapons is regarded as a crime.
Wikipedia provides this definition:
A biological agent (also called bio-agent, biological threat agent, biological warfare agent, biological weapon, or bioweapon) is a bacterium, virus, protozoan, parasite, fungus, or toxin that can be used purposefully as a weapon in bioterrorism or biological warfare (BW).

“U.S.
Planning to Establish New Drone Bases in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Benin”
by Jeremy Kuzmarov
The Wall Street Journal reported on January 4 that talks were under way as the Biden administration was seeking to establish drone bases at airfields in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Benin following a coup in Niger over the summer that jeopardized the U.S. military position there.
Stars and Stripes magazine reported in December that the U.S. cut the number of military personnel deployed to Niger by more than 40% in the wake of the coup, which, ironically, was led by a Special Forces officer, Moussa Salaou Barmou, trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the National Defense University in Washington.[1]
The coup plotters characterized Niger’s deposed President Mohamed Bazoum as a “corrupt pawn of France,” repudiating his support for a $110 million U.S. drone base in the desert city of Agadez, which has functioned as a hub for U.S. drone operations in West Africa.[2]

“Cognitive
Warfare, Targeting your Subconscious”
by Robert W Malone MD, MS
There is only
one rule in warfare. There are no rules.
“Cognitive
warfare is no longer science fiction. Cognitive warfare is a fact of the modern
age and everyone, whether civilian or military, is a potential target.
Cognitive attacks are aimed at exploiting emotions rooted in our subconscious,
bypassing our rational conscious mind. This is achieved by exploiting biases,
fallacies, emotions and automatisms, but also through nanotechnology,
biotechnology and information technology.”
-- Commander Cornelis van der Klaauw, Royal Netherlands Navy and Strategic Communications
The five
domains of warfare are land, sea, air, space and cyberspace. The core technical
components of Fifth Dimension Operations (cyberspace) are cyberwarfare
and cyber-attacks. The military concept now is to treat cyber as a place, not a
mission. Cyberwarfare relates to fifth generation
warfare, but transcends and expands that model.
“The primary
objective is freedom of action in, through, and from cyberspace as needed to
support mission objectives. The corollary is to deny freedom of action to
adversaries at times and places of our choosing. The ability to do both
provides for cyber military superiority.”

“China, Britan, and Cognitive Warfare”
by Robert W Malone
Documents and
publications from the CCP, PLA, NATO and UK's 77th Army Brigade summarize
current state of the art.
I am
constantly amazed by how many social media warriors and alternative media
“journalists” are completely unaware of how effectively they are being
manipulated by the on-line tactics and strategies of cognitive warfare. Having
spent a couple of years now investigating, learning, and teaching about PsyWar, Fifth Generation Warfare, and Cognitive Warfare, I
have become acutely aware of these methods - in part because they have been
quite effectively deployed on me for three straight years.
For example,
the words “controlled opposition” have been linked in the minds of many using
social media cognitive warfare methods (including neurolinguistic
programming) to my name without ever defining the term or how it applies to me,
just as others have been convinced by corporate media that I am just an “anti-vaxxer”. Rather than being a conscientious objector to the
failure to comply with bioethical, global regulatory and clinical research
norms developed over decades, as well as a truth teller and educator concerning
the gene therapy technologies which have been deployed and their associated
toxicities. Which is what I am actually guilty of.
I have become
convinced that these psychological manipulation methods pose an even greater
threat to freedom, sovereignty and humanity in general than the threat posed by
the widespread plans to deploy the modified-mRNA technology in every way
possible. As an article of faith, I have decided that the most important
contribution that I can provide at this point in time is to do everything I can
to educate people about the methods, tactics and strategies being actively
deployed to manipulate our thoughts and emotions. Rather than to continue with
hundreds more podcasts and essays concerning the modified-mRNA tech in which I
repeat the obvious as well as cover things I have repeatedly covered for three
years now.
I cling to
shreds of hope that, by learning about how and what is being done to each of us
by a wide variety of state, non-state and corporate actors, we can collectively
become more immune to this type of propaganda campaign. Judging by what I see
and read on a daily basis, this may be a fools
errand, but it is what I have decided to commit myself to. And it works for me
- I am first and foremost an educator/teacher, and a son of a conservative
teacher who left the public school system in the early 60s due to the teacher
union movement. It is in my blood. But, to be honest, my general faith in
humanity has been shaken by what I have observed and experienced over the last
few years.
The Chinese
government, the Chinese Central Communist Party (CCP), and the Peoples
Liberation Army (PLA) have practiced and refined cognitive warfare strategies
and tactics over decades, and are relatively transparent in their (Mandarin
language) publications concerning this technology. Therefore, CCP and PLA
publications provide some of the best summaries of the current state of
Cognitive Warfare technology - methods designed to directly influence and
program your subconscious mind. But in no way should you conclude that the
Chinese government is the only actor that is deploying these methods.
In a
preceding published substack essay focusing on
Cognitive Warfare (“Cognitive
Warfare; Targeting your subconscious”, NATO
documents were cited and referenced as source material for the analysis. My
sense is that these same advanced propaganda methods are also being routinely
used by corporations and non-state actors to advance their interests via social
media actions. The UK
Army 77th Brigade appears to also act based in part on
this playbook. In the case of at least one corporate entity active in the COVIDcrisis “resistance”, I have personally observed and
experienced multiple examples of the same strategies and tactics described in
CCP and PLA publications.

“The Transnational Capitalist Class. The Billionaires, The Trillionaires. ‘Stake Holder
Capitalism’ and The New World Order”
https://www.globalresearch.ca/transnational-capitalist-class/5846305
by Rick Thomas
In 2011, the Great British Class Survey was
conducted, in collaboration with academics from the University of Manchester,
the London School of Economics, and the University of York. The British have
always been obsessed with class, so it is not surprising that British academics
would attempt something of this nature.
The survey polled 161,400 people, and in a fit of obviousness, they
concluded,
“We demonstrate the existence of an ‘elite’, whose wealth separates them
from an established middle class.”
They also concluded that class distinctions had broadened into a
multitude of seven classes. This is an expansion of the Marxist model of class
division of capitalists and workers that has dominated academic circles for at
least a hundred years.
According to Karl Marx:
1.
Capitalist bourgeoisie — If you control the means of
production this is you.
2.
Worker — Oppressed and exploited proletariat with no control of the means of
production. Sells his or her labor for profit.
The survey included “unusually detailed questions based on social,
cultural and economic capital.”
For the economic capital section, the survey asks how much money
you make and how much money you have in the bank, plus the value of your house.
Secondly, to determine your cultural capital, it asks what kind of
cultural activities you participate in. This is based on high brow culture—preference for
interests such as classical music, historic architecture, museums, art
galleries, jazz, theatre and French restaurants. And the other, for emergent culture—appreciation and
participation in such activities as video games, social networking, sports,
hanging out with friends, working out at the gym, and rap or rock concerts.
Thirdly, social capital was measured using the position generator
originated by Nan
Lin, an American sociologist, in 2001, which measures
the range of social connections. People were asked if they knew anyone in
several dozen occupations.
Seven Classes
The study found there are seven distinct classes:
1.
a wealthy elite
2.
a prosperous salaried middle class consisting of professionals and
managers
3.
a class of technical experts
4.
a class of new affluent workers
5.
an aging traditional working class
6.
a 'precariat' characterized by very low levels of capital and ongoing precarious economic
insecurity
7.
a group of emergent service workers
This is an incomplete list in my humble opinion, because it fails to
mention the homeless who are a separate class of non-persons, comparable to the
Dalit caste in India. Homeless people
have virtually no rights and squeeze out a fragile existence as urban nomads.
The most interesting group #7, the precariat, are the
working poor who often fall into homelessness, when things go sideways in the
economy or in their personal lives. The word precariat is a neologism of
the words precarious and proletariat, coined by economist, Guy
Standing, in his book, The Precariat:
The New Dangerous Class.
The survey claims that the Elite class has a “mean household income of £89k (152K CDN), almost double that of the
next highest class, and the average house price is £325k (556k CDN),
considerably higher than any other class.” However, this elite class is
only the upper middle class. The real elites make far more money than a meagre £89k per
year. Many of them make that much in a day.
Other sociologists have gone further to sub-divide the wealthy into
several categories:
Millionaires or High-Net-Worth Individual (HNWI) – those with $1 million or greater
in investible assets.
There are approximately 15 million HNWIs in the world according to the World’s
Wealthiest Cities Report 2023 by Henley & Partners.
Multimillionaires or Ultra-High-Net-Worth-Individuals (UHNWI) – those with $30 million or greater
net worth. There are 211,275 UHNW individuals in the world, with a total
combined net worth of US$29.7 trillion.
Billionaires –
According to Forbes, there are 2,640 billionaires in the
world who are collectively worth about $12 trillion. The number of billionaires
has been doubling every 10 years. In 2013, there were 1426 billionaires, worth
$5.5 trillion. In 2003, there were 476 billionaires worth just $1.4 trillion.

“The Two Wars
of the West: America Targets Europe as Well as the Middle East. Manlio Dinucci”
by Manlio Dinucci
We are
embroiled in two wars, in Europe and the Middle East, which have increasingly
serious consequences for our living conditions and security.
On the European front, what the Wall Street Journal calls
“one of the largest acts of sabotage in Europe since World War II” was carried
out in September 2022: the United States, assisted by Norway and Poland, blew
up the Nord Stream, the main gas pipeline carrying cheap Russian gas to Germany
and from there to other European countries. The dynamics of this wartime
action were reconstructed, based on precise evidence, by U.S. journalist
Seymour Hersh and a German investigation.
READ MORE: The
Whole of Europe Turned Into a Battlefield
U.S. Secretary of State Blinken called the Nord Stream blockade “a huge
strategic opportunity for years to come” and pointed out that “the U.S. has
become the main supplier of liquefied natural gas to Europe,” gas that we
European citizens pay much more for than what we used to import from
Russia.
At the same time, the U.S. is passing
on to Europe the enormous cost of the NATO war in Ukraine against Russia. The
European Commission is paving the way for Ukraine’s next entry into the EU,
with the consequence that we European citizens will be the ones paying for the
huge Ukrainian deficit.
On the Middle East front, the
European Union supports the war by which Israel, with the United States and
NATO behind it, attacks Palestine and fuels a regional conflict targeting Iran
in particular. Italy, which has been linked to Israel by a military pact
since 2004, has provided the fighter jets on which Israeli pilots are trained,
which bomb Gaza massacring civilians, and supports the Israeli military in various
ways. In return, PM Netanyahu has promised PM Meloni
that Italy will become an energy hub for shunting to Europe the gas Israel will
send through the EastMed pipeline.
The section of the offshore gas
field, which Israel claims sole ownership of, is located largely in the
territorial waters of the Palestinian Territory of Gaza and that of the West
Bank.
Through the EastMed
pipeline Israel will thus export to Italy and the EU the Palestinian natural
gas it has seized by military force.

“Russia Send SHOCKING Warning To US
& UK In The Red Sea!”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUN_BiaTyHo
by Tech Show
(10:03)
We go
in-depth on Russia's startling warning to the United States and the United
Kingdom in the Red Sea about their engagement in the Yemeni conflict against
the Houthi rebels in this video. The international
scene has been shaken by this geopolitical development, and we will analyse the nuances of this concerning circumstance. In
this conversation, the Red Sea—a vital sea route that connects Europe and Asia
to the Middle East—takes centre stage. Its strategic importance is
indisputable, as more over 10% of global trade flows via its tight straits. We
look closely at Russia's daring decision to issue a warning in this area, which
has drawn criticism. We'll examine Russia's intentions for issuing this
surprising warning, including its desire to reclaim its standing in the world,
safeguard its economic interests, and forge diplomatic ties with important
Middle Eastern nations like Syria and Iran. Comprehending Russia's stance is
essential to appreciating the seriousness of its declaration. This video
examines the Red Sea's geopolitical chessboard, where local and global
powers—such as the US, UK, Saudi Arabia, and UAE—are fighting for dominance and
influence. The intricacy of the situation is clarified by focusing on the
dynamics of the Yemeni war and the roles that various individuals play. Another
piece of the problem is Iran's engagement in the Red Sea region. The complexity
of the conflict is further exacerbated by its backing of the Houthi rebels and wider disputes with Western countries. We
will examine the ways in which the interests and activities of Iran are
entwined with those of the US, UK, and Russia. This video explores the causes,
the warring factions, and the catastrophic effects on the civilian populace of
the Yemeni conflict, which is a humanitarian disaster of epic proportions.
Examined is how the Red Sea became a battleground during this war, with
increasing naval blockades, missile assaults, and battles along its borders.
We'll discuss the negative perceptions that the US and UK have received for
their backing of the Saudi-led coalition and how they relate to international
concerns over the Yemeni conflict. Examining the role of the Western powers
exposes us to abuses of international law and human rights violations. The
region is now experiencing unprecedented levels of uncertainty as a result of
Russia's threat. We discuss the possible outcomes, such as heightened hostilities,
strengthened rebel groups, and the effect on the peace process. It also takes
into account Russia's role in settling the dispute and its ability to change
the international landscape. We talk about the economic effects of any
disruption to the Red Sea's essential shipping channels because the
ramifications of this crisis for global trade cannot be understated. This video
examines the possible risks and uncertainties that everyone with an interest in
the stability of this region—from ship owners to insurance to multinational
corporations—may encounter. We discuss the situation's legal ramifications, emphasising the significance of international
law—specifically, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea
(UNCLOS)—in regulating marine operations in the Red Sea. It is studied how
Russia's warning could lead to legal disputes and challenges, which would
complicate an already sensitive situation.

“Former NATO
Commander Calls to Bomb Crimea”
https://www.globalresearch.ca/former-nato-commander-calls-bomb-crimea/5846947
by Lucas Leiroz de Almeida
Recently,
Western support for Ukraine has been declining,
leaving the regime’s officials concerned about the future of Kiev’s fighting
capabilities. However, despite this tendency, there are still public figures in
the West calling for a new escalation and the sending of more heavy weapons to
Ukraine.
In a
recent statement, American retired General Philip Breedlove, former NATO Supreme
Allied Commander Europe, stated that the West should send heavy weapons to Kiev
to enable intense attacks on the Crimea region. According to Breedlove, only by
attacking Russian positions in the Black Sea will Ukraine be able to make
Moscow “rethink its posture”.
Breedlove
classified Crimea as the “center of gravity” and “the decisive terrain of the
war.” For him, the key to “defeat” Russia is to hit Crimea as much as possible.
He believes that the more attacks in the region, the more Russia will be
affected and forced to retreat throughout the entire conflict zone. So, faced
with the imminent depletion of Ukraine’s military capabilities, the general
advises that NATO return to sending weapons at a massive level, mainly
long-range missiles that allow deep attacks on Crimea.

“Douglas
Macgregor Reveals The SHOCKING Truth On The Russia-Ukraine Conflict!”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plcN3bbd1G0
with Douglas Macgregor
(8:40)
In this
enlightening video, we go deep into the Russia-Ukraine crisis, discovering
stunning truths that have been disguised by mainstream narratives. Renowned
military expert and strategist Douglas Macgregor offers a new viewpoint on this
intricate geopolitical situation. We'll go over some of the main points of his
argument, such as NATO expansion, Russia's geopolitical interest in Ukraine,
the significance of Ukrainian nationalism, and the impact of Western
assistance. The disclosures made by Macgregor cast doubt on accepted wisdom and
highlight the necessity of diplomatic solutions and a well-rounded strategy.
For years, the Russia-Ukraine war has been a major worldwide issue, and it is
important to comprehend its historical background. We will look at the origins
of the war, which can be traced back to the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991
and Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014. Macgregor's examination will
illuminate the ways in which this past has influenced the current situation and
the larger geopolitical contest between the US and Russia. The importance of
NATO expansion is one of the main topics covered in this video. Macgregor draws
attention to how Russia's worries about its national security have been
heightened by NATO's unrelenting eastward advance. Understanding the dynamics
of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the reasons behind Russia's actions requires
an understanding of the relevance of NATO expansion. The strategic significance
of Ukraine to Russia is a further important finding of Macgregor's study. We'll
discuss the historical, cultural, and economic significance of Ukraine, with a
focus on Crimea, which is vital to Russia's naval strategy. According to
Macgregor, resolving the situation peacefully requires acknowledging Russia's
justifiable security concerns. We also talk about Ukrainian nationalism and how
it affects the conflict. Macgregor draws attention to the ways in which the
emergence of nationalist sentiments in Ukraine has exacerbated internal
differences and given rise to separatist movements in the country's east. This
element complicates the dispute and makes reaching a peaceful conclusion
difficult. Additionally, we'll dive into the influence of Western backing for
Ukraine, both financially and militarily. Macgregor contends that the continued
conflicts are a result of the empowered Kiev leadership brought about by Western
assistance. This viewpoint casts doubt on the mainstream narrative and
highlights the need for a more nuanced strategy for Western engagement in the
area. Another important topic covered in this video is how the media shapes
public opinions of the conflict. Macgregor emphasises
the ways that policymakers and the general public have been swayed by biassed media coverage, which has led to a combative
approach towards Russia. In order to promote a greater awareness of the
complexity involved, he advocates for more balanced reporting. In the end, this
video emphasises how critical diplomacy is to ending
the war between Russia and Ukraine. Macgregor asks for a negotiated settlement
that takes into account the interests of all parties concerned and offers insightful
information about the complex nature of the situation. We acknowledge the
humanitarian cost, the significance of international mediation, and the
influence on international security as we examine these startling facts. It is
a call to action for a more thoughtful and nuanced handling of this important
matter, one in which negotiation is valued above confrontation.

“Technocratic Victory for China? Cold War 2.0 in the Year of the Red

by Michael Welch, Patrick Wood, and Pepe
Escobar
(50:00)
“Most
analysts and historians fail to understand that starting in the early 1980s, China had become a full fledged capitalist country. There
are powerful US business interests including Big Pharma,
major hi-tech companies, banking institutions which are firmly entrenched
inside China.” [1]
China has
now become a dynamic global financial superpower. Since 2010, it is second
economically only to the United States. [2]
Nowadays,
according to the United States Statistics Division, “China makes up 28.4% of total world manufacturing output accounting
for over $4 trillion to the world economy! The United
States makes up 16.6% of Global output worth $1.8 trillion. The third largest
exporter does not even make it into the double digits.”[3]
The graph
that follows demonstrates quite starkly the rise in the countries’ GDP from
1960 to 2022. [4] . . . .
Indeed, the
nation has taken a leadership role in building a new generation of Silk Roads
across Eurasia. And BRICS, the group comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China
and South Africa has now added five new members: Iran, the United Arab
Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Ethiopia. The partnership is now larger than
the G7![5]
But the Red
Dragon is more than a competitor. It is a threat! At least that’s the thinking
of the Pentagon. [6]
According to
the U.S. Department of Defense 2022 National Defense Strategy, the People’s
Republic of China “remains our most consequential strategic competitor for the
coming decades” and quoting President Biden’s National Security
Strategy, the PRC is “the most consequential strategic competitor for the
coming decades.” [7]
Strangely
though, the course taken by China for the last fifty years, got significant
help from Henry Kissinger and the Trilateral Commission which was born in
1973 from two American minds: Zbigniew Brzezinski
and David Rockefeller. The Organization is supposedly devoted to
bringing together leaders in policy, business and media in an attempt to solve
“some of the world’s toughest problems.” [8][9]
Now that an election
in the island of Taiwan recently chose a leader, Vice President Lai Ching-te, who is propping up commitments to opposing
unification with China, commentators in the U.S. media are speculating on the
likelihood of China doing something, like upping its military presence in the
country. Something these “Authoritarian Regimes” are expected to do. [10]
This episode
of the Global Research News Hour takes a special look at China, its background,
and the threats, real and imaginary that are in evidence at this crucial time
after the Taiwan election and historically generally.
In our first
half hour, we invite back writer and author Patrick Wood to guide us
through Technocracy, the true politics of China post 1980. He will share the
role of Kissinger and the Trilats in moulding this system to their liking and ultimately taking
over countries around the world.
In our second
half hour, we are treated once again to the reflections and assessments of Pepe Escobar. He will put forward his views about the
Taiwan election, China’s advancement, and the advance of the Russia-China Axis
of resistance into the future.

“Reflections
on Racism, ‘Coloniality of Power’, Mal-Development
and Contemporary Capitalism”
by Tina Renier
Dear Dr.
Benita Bunjun,
I have grown
to appreciate our educator-student, mentor-mentee and mother-daughter relations
over the years. Our relations have blossomed beautifully in a world plagued by
multiple, ongoing crises. You have left an indelible mark on post-graduate
studies, living and working experiences while being in Canada and upon my
return transition to Jamaica, my homeland for healing and recovery.
Like many racialized international students and post graduate
workers, my original perceptions about Canada were shaped primarily by
prominent discourses (“hear-say”) of Canada being a beacon of international
humanitarian standards and an active promotor of
equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in movements and social spaces.
However, our
friendly meetings, our rigorous, scholarly dialogue, my lived experiences and
observations have unsettled and de-mystified the grounds of this national
fallacy. You have exposed me to the contributions of critical race,
intersectional feminist thinkers such as Professor Sherene
Razack, Sara Ahmed, Robyn Maynard and Professor Sunera Thobani.
As an
African-Caribbean woman, I have always felt as a “body out of place” in
academia and other institutions within Canada which is a white settler colonial
society. I never knew why until you personally challenged to expand my social
analysis beyond the statement: “racialized,
international students/post graduate workers are exploited or discriminated
against” and instead, we (I) should shift the focus of my analysis to the
mechanics or techniques of power associated with “white supremacist”,
patriarchal politics in the configuration of institutions including the
Canadian state. After all, it is Deborah Brock et. al (2019:5) who have also validated the importance of
unpacking the centre by emphasizing,
“to exclusively focus on the marginalized without interrogating
the centre is to risk reproducing a pattern that defines the margins as the
location of the problem”.
Brock’s et. al (2019) assertion therefore means that instead of
examining silencing, erasure, social marginalization, precariousness,
invisibility/hyper-visibility and the absent-present phenomenon among
vulnerable groups in isolation, we should examine how power relations is
organized around systems of domination that perpetuate these problems. It is
not sufficient to look at the symptoms of the problems in isolation from the
“centre” which shapes the systemic, institutional, epistemological- political,
discursive, socio-economic, cultural and psycho-affective structures embedded
in dialectical relations of domination and subjugation.
We see
whiteness and “coloniality of power” imbricated in the organisation of
the global political economy where capitalism is the most predominant system of
economic relations, which is inextricably connected to racism, the derogation
of women’s rights and the exploitation of labour to generate profits.
A 2024 Oxfam
International report has illustrated that world’s five richest men (all
white) have more than doubled their fortunes to $869 billion while the
world’s poorest 60%- almost five billion people have lost money and
billionaires’ wealth have grown three times (3x) faster than global inflation.

It's rare
that I end an interview on the brink of tears, but this was such a powerful
interview with former ANC MP Andrew Feinstein. He tells me his family history
of surviving the Holocaust - unlike so many of his relatives - and how this
informed his struggle against Apartheid. But he tells me why Israel's
oppression of the Palestinians is worse than Apartheid, why the anti-apartheid
movement is an example to now follow, the silencing of pro-Palestinian voices,
South Africa's case against Israel alleging genocide - and why history shows we
have a responsibility to speak out.

“Turkey Are
Entering The Red Sea In Support Of Houthi Rebels
Against US & UK!”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7E23uKzSz8
with Scott Ritter
(9:15)
This video explores the new
disclosure of Turkey's covert involvement in the Red Sea conflict made by
former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter. The Middle East is already turbulent,
but this startling development—Turkey supporting Houthi
rebels against the US and the UK—adds even more complexity. We will discuss the
specifics of Scott Ritter's disclosures, the Red Sea conflict's historical
background, Turkey's intentions, and the events' larger geopolitical
ramifications.
For several
years, there has been a serious humanitarian crisis caused by the Red Sea
conflict, which has its origins in the continuing civil war in Yemen. Turkey's
involvement in this conflict adds a new element to an already complex scenario.
The international community is deeply concerned about this trend, which has
sparked discussions about the ramifications for the stability of the region.
Scott Ritter's current statement has more weight because of his standing as a
former UN weapons inspector. His knowledge of the complexities of this issue is
crucial, as he has a track record of uncovering hidden realities in
international disputes. An already difficult area becomes much more convoluted
in light of this finding. There are several reasons why Turkey backs the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Factors at play include their
affinity with Iran in the wider Sunni-Shia rivalry,
their intent to undermine Saudi Arabia and the UAE's power in the area, and
their economic interests in controlling important waterways. Due to its support
for the Houthi rebels, Turkey's adherence to
international law and its standing in the NATO alliance are called into
question. Turkey's engagement in the Red Sea conflict has important
ramifications. It might worsen regional tensions, damage ties with NATO allies,
and intensify the Yemeni conflict. In addition to having an impact on
international trade, control over the Red Sea may also have an impact on trade
routes and marine security. Turkey's geopolitical
orientation may also redefine Middle East rivalries and alliances, affecting
the region's overall geopolitical environment. Prioritising
diplomatic efforts is crucial to stop further destabilisation
in the region as the international community struggles with this development.
The Middle East's complex web of alliances and rivals is further complicated by
the Red Sea conflict, whose development will continue to influence the region's
dynamics for years to come.

“United Against Nuclear Iran: The
Shadowy, Intelligence-Linked Group Driving the US Towards
War With Iran”
by Alan Macleod
Most of the
world has watched the Israeli assault on Gaza in horror. As tens of thousands
have been killed and millions displaced, tens of millions of people around the
world have poured onto the streets to demand an end to the violence. But a few
select others have taken to the pages of our most influential media to demand
an escalation of the violence and that the United States help Israel strike not
just Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon but Iran as well.
“I might have
once favored a cease-fire with Hamas, but not now,” wrote Bush-era
diplomat Dennis Ross in The New York Times, explaining that “if Hamas is
perceived as winning, it will validate the group’s ideology of rejection, give
leverage and momentum to Iran and its collaborators and put [our] own governments
on the defensive.”
In the wake of Hamas’ October 7 assault, arch-neoconservative official
John Bolton was invited on CNN,
where he claimed that what we witnessed was really an “Iranian attack on Israel
using Hamas as a surrogate” and that the U.S. must immediately respond. When
asked whether he had any evidence, given the implications of what he was saying,
he shrugged and replied, “This is not a court of law.”
On December 28, Bolton doubled down on his hawkish stance, writing in the pages
of Britain’s Daily Telegraph that “The West may now have no option but to
attack Iran” – a position he has held for at least a decade.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Saudi
state-funded broadcaster Iran International,
senior Bush official Mark Wallace bellowed that, “This
is Iran’s work. Iran will suffer at the hands of retribution and will suffer
the consequences of supporting this terror group and its horrific attack on
Israel.” Wallace continued:
No civilized country wants further conflict. But the Iranians are forcing
the civilized world’s hand. And you will see a dramatic response soon as the
United States, Israel, and our allies begin to position assets around the world
in preparation.”
If there was any doubt as to what sort of “dramatic response” Wallace
wanted to see, he added a message to Iran’s
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps: “I look forward to seeing you hanged from the
end of one of your own ropes.”
Iran was recently the victim of a deadly terrorist attack. As mourners
commemorated the U.S. assassination of Qassem Soleimani, two bombs exploded, killing 91 and injuring
hundreds more. In this context, it was understandable why Iranian officials
pointed the finger at the U.S. and Israel.

“Gaza: A
Textbook Case of Genocide”
https://www.globalresearch.ca/gaza-textbook-case-genocide/5836991
by Raz Segal
On
Friday, Israel ordered the besieged population in the northern half of the
Gaza Strip to evacuate to the south, warning that it would soon intensify its
attack on the Strip’s upper half. The order has left more than a million
people, half of whom are children, frantically attempting to flee amid continuing airstrikes, in a walled enclave
where no destination is safe.
As Palestinian journalist Ruwaida Kamal Amer wrote today from
Gaza, “refugees from the north are already arriving in Khan Younis,
where the missiles never stop and we’re running out of food, water, and power.”
The UN has warned that the
flight of people from the northern part of Gaza to the south will create
“devastating humanitarian consequences” and will “transform what is already a
tragedy into a calamitous situation.”
Over the last week, Israel’s violence against Gaza has killed more than
1,800 Palestinians, injured thousands, and displaced more than 400,000 within
the strip. And yet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised today
that what we have seen is “only the beginning.”
Israel’s campaign to displace Gazans—and
potentially expel
them altogether into Egypt—is yet another chapter in
the Nakba, in which an estimated 750,000 Palestinians
were driven from their homes during the 1948 war that led to the creation of
the State of Israel. But the assault on Gaza can also be understood in other
terms: as a textbook case of genocide unfolding in front of our eyes. I say
this as a scholar of genocide, who has spent many years writing about Israeli
mass violence against Palestinians. I have written about settler colonialism
and Jewish
supremacy in Israel, the distortion of the Holocaust to
boost the Israeli
arms industry, the weaponization of antisemitism
accusations to justify Israeli violence against Palestinians, and the racist
regime of Israeli apartheid. Now,
following Hamas’s attack on Saturday and the mass murder of more than 1,000
Israeli civilians, the worst of the worst is happening.
Under international law, the crime of genocide is defined by “the intent
to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group,
as such,” as noted in the
December 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of
Genocide. In its murderous attack on Gaza, Israel has loudly proclaimed this
intent. Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant
declared it in no
uncertain terms on October 9th:
“We are imposing a complete siege on Gaza. No electricity, no food, no
water, no fuel. Everything is closed. We are fighting human animals, and we
will act accordingly.”

“Palestinians in Central Gaza Refugee Camp Struggle to Pull Their Loved
Ones Out from Under Rubble Amid Mass Destruction”

Palestinians

bodies of their relatives out from under rubble, hours after Israeli forces
announced their withdrawal from the area.

Thousands of Palestinians Flee to South Gaza
Witnesses in
the Maghazi refugee camp say many of the residents
were shot at close range by Israeli soldiers “in cold blood”.
Piles of
broken concrete and scenes of widespread destruction are evidence that homes
were not spared in Israeli attacks, which included missile strikes and heavy
artillery shelling.
Israeli
soldiers have been conducting ground operations in northern, central, and parts
of southern Gaza, for more than three months.
Maghazi camp has
come under Israeli attack several times over the last few weeks.
In one of the
deadliest attacks last month, more than 100 people were killed, mostly
displaced women and children.
Dozens more
have been reported killed in the camp in the past several days.
Ambulances
have been unable to navigate destroyed roads and infrastructure in order to
recover the bodies.
The camp
normally houses about 30,000 people, according to the United Nations Relief and
Works Agency for Palestinians in the Near East (UNRWA).
But the
population of the camp rose to at least 100,000 as thousands more frightened
Palestinians came there seeking shelter from Israel’s relentless bombardment in
other parts of the besieged enclave.

“Britain's
Chief Rabbi Gives His Blessing to War Crimes in Gaza”
https://www.globalresearch.ca/uk-chief-rabbi-gives-blessing-war-crimes-gaza/5846940
by Jonathan Cook
Britain’s
chief rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, spoke at a public event
at a synagogue last Sunday to extol the “outstanding” performance of the
Israeli military in Gaza. He did so days before South Africa argues its case
before the International Court of Justice in The Hague – starting today – that
Israel is committing genocide in the
enclave.
Whether
Israel is eventually found to be perpetrating genocide may prove more a
political decision than a legal verdict, given the pressures on the 15 judges
from their respective national leaderships.
But it is
indisputable that Israel has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity
in Gaza. It is known to have killed more than 23,000 Palestinians, most of them
women and children, and seriously wounded tens of thousands more. It has driven
from their homes the overwhelming majority of the enclave’s population of 2.3
million – that is, Israel has ethnically cleansed them.
Israel has
repeatedly bombed the “safe zones” to which it has ordered civilians to flee,
as well as critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, mosques,
churches and bakeries. It has imposed a “complete siege” that is denying food,
aid and medicine, leading to mass starvation and the spread of lethal disease.
Video footage
has shown Israeli soldiers in Gaza gleefully
smashing up shops; stripping Palestinian
men and boys to
their underwear; and shooting
civilians, including women, in the street as they carrying
white flags. Soldiers even executed three
of Israel’s hostages trying to escape captivity and surrender with an SOS sign.
Yet Britain’s
chief rabbi, the face of Judaism in the UK, has raised his voice to call all of
this “the most outstanding possible thing”. He has gone further: he has
described the troops committing these crimes “our heroic soldiers” and revealed
that his own son, Danny, is assisting with the attack on Gaza in the Israeli
military. He has said he is “immensely proud” of him.

“Britain Has
Flown 50 Spy Missions Over Gaza in Support of Israel”
https://www.globalresearch.ca/britain-flown-50-spy-missions-gaza-support-israel/5846954
by Matt Kennard, Declassified UK
(8:33)
The UK military refuses to tell Declassified what intelligence it is
sharing with Israel as we reveal the extraordinary number of surveillance
flights Britain is undertaking over Gaza from its base on Cyprus.
The UK military has flown 50 surveillance missions over Gaza since
December, it can be revealed.
The flights have taken off from Britain’s controversial air base on
Cyprus, RAF Akrotiri, and averaged around one a day
since the beginning of December.
When asked the UK government refused to provide the number of spy
flights, but Declassified has analysed flight tracking records.
The British plane used is the Shadow R1, which is known as an
intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR)
aircraft.
The Shadow R1 is operated by the UK military’s No.14
Squadron, which is based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire,
east England.
The UK
military recently awarded a £110m
contract to the plane’s manfacturer, US weapons
company Raytheon, to update the aircraft and increase the British fleet from
six to eight.
The British
flights began on 3 December when two R1s flew over Gaza. The flights have
continued nearly daily up until now, with around half the days featuring two
flights. On 3 January, the British sent an R1 over Gaza three times.
The flights
appear to last around six hours.
Intelligence
The UK
Ministry of Defence announced on 2
December that it would begin surveillance flights over Gaza “in support of the
ongoing hostage rescue activity”.
“The safety
of British nationals is our utmost priority,” the department said.
“Surveillance aircraft will be unarmed, do not have a combat role, and will be
tasked solely to locate hostages”.
It added:
“Only
information relating to hostage rescue will be passed to the relevant
authorities responsible for hostage rescue.”
But the
extraordinary number of flights, and the fact that they started nearly two
months after the hostages were taken, raises suspicions that the UK is not
collecting intelligence solely for this purpose.
Foreign
secretary David Cameron confirmed last week
that Hamas holds just two British hostages.
Israeli
forces are also on the ground in Gaza, and notoriously have wide-ranging
surveillance capabilities in the territory. It is unclear what Britain’s R1s
can add to the hostage rescue mission.

“Attacks on
the Houthis by the US and UK Have Escalated the
Situation in the Red Sea Shipping Lane”
by Suat Delgen
and Steven Sahiounie
The Houthis in Yemen have been attacking ships in the Red Sea
which are associated with Israel or the US in response to the ongoing genocide
in Gaza being carried out by Israel, who is supported by the US with all
weapons and funding. US President Joe Biden continues to refuse all
international calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Biden has
formed a military coalition to attack Yemen, the poorest country on earth, with
famine and disease rampant. In an effort to understand the situation, Steven Sahiounie of MidEastDiscourse
interviewed Suat Delgen.
Suat Delgen, a Defense Industry and Foreign Policy analyst,
served for 16 years in the Naval Forces as a Staff Officer, undertaking project
officer duties in various NATO and National Headquarters, as well as serving as
a principal warfare officer and commanding officer on fast attack craft.
Steven Sahiounie (SS): The Houthis say they will continue
attacking Israeli-associated ships until there is a ceasefire declared in Gaza.
Can the US-led coalition against the Houthis succeed
in stopping the attacks?
Suat Delgen (SD): The United States, as a global maritime power,
plays a crucial role in ensuring the security of global trade routes. In light
of the Houthis’ attacks on Israeli-flagged ships and
ships bound for Israel in the Red Sea and the Bab Al
Mandeb Strait, these actions pose a significant challenge not only to regional
stability but also to international maritime security, which the U.S. is keen
to uphold.
The
initiation of the multinational Operation Prosperity Guardian on December 19,
2023, marks an important step in addressing this challenge. However, the
operation’s efficacy is constrained by its defensive nature and the limited
rules of engagement, which do not extend to pre-emptive strikes against
strategic Houthi targets. This limitation, in my
opinion, contributed to the operation’s inability to fully deter Houthi attacks.
The situation
took a significant turn with the UN Security Council’s adoption of Resolution
2722, which, while not authorizing direct military action against the Houthis, underscored the international community’s demand
for a cessation of Houthi aggressions. Nevertheless,
the subsequent direct military responses by the US and UK, bypassing the
resolution’s framework, seem to have only escalated the situation. This
response, in my analysis, has not only failed to deter the Houthis
but also appeared to garner them increased public sympathy, as evident from the
large-scale demonstrations in Sanaa.
From a
military standpoint, the resource-intensive nature of countering Houthi attacks, particularly their use of cost-effective
drones and missiles against expensive defense systems, presents a logistical
and economic challenge. In my view, this imbalance could potentially lead to a
strategic stalemate, where the reduction in the number of attacks might be
achievable, but completely stopping them seems unlikely under the current
strategy.
In
conclusion, while the joint US-UK military operations might curtail the
frequency of Houthi attacks to some extent, the
prospect of completely halting these attacks appears slim. It is my belief that
the resolution of this conflict will require not just military might but also
diplomatic efforts that address the underlying political complexities. The US’s
stance, especially considering its previous decision to delist the Houthis as a terrorist organization, suggests a potential
preference for a non-escalatory approach. However, as with any conflict of this
nature, the situation remains fluid and the outcomes uncertain.”

“This Is Not Another ‘Phoney War’”
https://scheerpost.com/2024/01/19/patrick-lawrence-this-is-not-another-phoney-war/
by Patrick Lawrence
Amid the
tit-for-tats along Israel’s border with Lebanon over the past few weeks, the Houthis’ shelling of Red Sea traffic and repeated
assertions that the U.S. does not want to widen the Gaza crisis into a regional
war, I started thinking of that twilit interim in 1939–1940 known in history as
“the phony war.” Has the world entered another such passage—another war we do
not want to think is a war but is a war we do not want to see?
That question
seems far away now, an intellectual flinch. America, mindlessly loyal to the
frothing dog known as Israel, has wandered into another war the way our
president wanders away from podiums and off television news programs while the
cameras are still rolling. This is a 21st century war, replete with
attacks, denials, proxies and indirection, and with no formal declaration. But
we may as well declare it ourselves so we understand our moment properly.
America is once more at war.
The U.S. had
for weeks refrained from responding to the Houthis,
who, in solidarity with the Palestinians of Gaza, have since November staged
dozens of drone and missile attacks on commercial ships sailing through the Red
Sea. These now include U.S. and British vessels and a U.S. warship. The Biden
regime’s stated concern was that it did not want to risk sparking a conflict
that would spread through the region and, in particular, provoke the Islamic
Republic. The Pentagon, in the role of lumbering giant, also acknowledged that
there was little U.S. forces could do to stop the Houthis’
operations.
The weeks of
restraint, so uncharacteristic of the Biden White House, ended last Thursday,
when the U.S. and a handful of its clients hit more than two dozen Houthi targets—military bases, airports, weapons dumps—in
Yemen. Air and naval units struck the Houthis again
last Friday, and the world suddenly sat up straight. Here is part of a news
analysis The New York Times
published Friday evening:
With the
American-led strike on nearly 30 sites in Yemen on Thursday and a smaller
strike the next day, there is no longer a question of whether there will be a
regional conflict. It has already begun. The biggest questions now are the
conflict’s intensity and whether it can be contained.
This is
exactly the outcome no one wanted, presumably including Iran.

“Russia Just
Launched Ballistic Missiles Against Israel In Support Of Gaza Palestine!”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHmCI7Pm1ck
by Tech Beat
(9:58)
We offer
comprehensive coverage and in-depth analysis of the most recent and divisive
event in the Middle East: Russia's ballistic missile launch in Gaza, Palestine.
We'll look at the reasons for Russia's unexpected action, the Israel-Palestine
conflict's historical background, the international reaction, and the possible
outcomes of this dire scenario in this video. Long-standing territorial
disputes, historical grievances, and conflicting claims to territory and
sovereignty have all contributed to the Israel-Palestine conflict. Israelis and
Palestinians, who both claim the same territory, are
at odds over a yearning for self-determination that dates back to the late 19th
century. For many years, Gaza—a tiny Mediterranean coastal enclave—has served
as a focal point of this struggle. Since it came under Hamas' control in 2007,
Gaza has seen several difficulties, including as Israel's impenetrable barrier
and frequent military clashes. The Middle East's shifting geopolitical
landscape is called into question by Russia's assistance for Gaza during this
turbulent time. There seem to be several reasons for Russia's ballistic missile
launches against Israel. First and foremost, Russia wants to become more
powerful in the area by assuming the role of power broker and mediator in the
Israel-Palestine dispute. By doing this, it hopes to improve its geopolitical
stature and win over more Arab countries. Second, the United States and its
dominance in the Middle East may be challenged by Russia's actions. Russia's
support for Palestine is a direct challenge to American control in the region,
given that the United States has historically supported Israel, further intensifying tensions between the two superpowers of
the world. Following Russia's missile launch on Israel, the world has reacted
to the incident with a combination of shock, condemnation, and diplomatic
measures to defuse the situation. Global governments have conveyed profound
apprehension regarding the abrupt shift in circumstances and the likelihood of
a comprehensive confrontation in the area. In order to address the problem, the
UN Security Council called an emergency meeting, and member states urged
moderation and an immediate ceasefire. The United States, a steadfast supporter
of Israel, denounced Russia's actions and demanded a diplomatic, peaceful end
to the situation. Many countries with an Arab or Muslim majority have expressed
support for Russia's solidarity with Palestine and welcomed any international
action that advances the Palestinian cause. In a statement, China, a major
world power with expanding interests in the Middle East, called for moderation
and reaffirmed its commitment to a diplomatic settlement. Many countries,
including France, Egypt, and Turkey, have launched diplomatic initiatives to
mediate and find a peaceful resolution. These initiatives are a reflection of
the general understanding that the Middle East crisis has reached a turning
point and needs to be addressed right away. There is a great deal of ambiguity
and risk around the possible consequences of Russia's missile launch against
Israel and the larger Israel-Palestine conflict. Possible outcomes include the
war escalating, international mediation, geopolitical rivalries, humanitarian
disasters, and alliance reevaluation. Russia's ballistic missile launch in
support of Gaza, Palestine, has shocked the world and brought attention to the
delicate geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East as well as the
Israel-Palestine conflict. In order to stop the suffering and future escalation
of the crisis, the international community needs to take prompt action. The
most important things are diplomacy, mediation, and a dedication to a peaceful
conclusion. For additional updates and analysis on this important worldwide
subject, subscribe to our channel.

“The Gaza
Strip: A Struggle For Daily Survival Amid Death,
Exhaustion And Despair”
by Philippe Lazzarini / UNRWA
(25:51)
Every time I
visit Gaza, I witness how people have sunk further into despair, with the
struggle for survival consuming every hour.
In the south,
around Rafah, makeshift structures of plastic
sheeting have mushroomed everywhere including on the streets, with people
trying to protect themselves from the cold and rain. Each one of these flimsy
shelters can be home to over 20 people. Rafah is so
congested that one can barely drive a car amid the sea of people. The
population of Rafah has almost quadrupled, with more
than 1.2 million people.
Everyone I met
had a personal story of fear, death, loss, trauma to share. Over the 100 days,
the people of Gaza have moved from the sheer shock of losing everything, in
some cases every member of their family, to a debilitating struggle to stay
alive and protect their loved ones.
In Deir al-Balah, in the middle
areas, I visited one of our schools turned shelter. The overcrowding was
claustrophobic, and the filthiness was striking. I heard stories of women
foregoing food and water to avoid having to use the unsanitary toilets. Skin
diseases and headlice are rife with those affected
stigmatized. People were struggling for food and medicine during the day,
feeling cold and damp during the night. They wish to return to their lives
before the war but realize, with deep anxiety, that
this is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
With the
scarcity of commercial goods allowed into the Strip, the price of basic
commodities has increased up to ten times, from the rarely available fruits and
vegetables to baby milk to a used blanket on sale. Mountains of uncollected
rubbish now fill the streets. The chronically ill do not have sufficient
medicine and must learn to live with alternatives or do without, from basic
insulin for diabetes to daily tablets for high blood pressure. People are not
able to wash and stay clean. Long and repeated blackouts in telecommunications,
including internet and mobile phones add to the distress as people feel cut off
from the rest of the world. The siege is the silent killer of many.

“The Four
Horsemen of Gaza’s Apocalypse”
https://scheerpost.com/2024/01/21/chris-hedges-the-four-horsemen-of-gazas-apocalypse/
by Chris Hedges
Joe Biden relies on advisors who view the world through the prism of the West’s civilizing mission to the “lesser breeds” of the earth to formulate his policies towards Israel and the Middle East.
oe Biden’s inner circle of strategists for the Middle East — Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan and Brett McGurk — have little understanding of the Muslim world and a deep animus towards Islamic resistance movements. They see Europe, the United States and Israel as involved in a clash of civilizations between the enlightened West and a barbaric Middle East. They believe that violence can bend Palestinians and other Arabs to their will. They champion the overwhelming firepower of the U.S. and Israeli military as the key to regional stability — an illusion that fuels the flames of regional war and perpetuates the genocide in Gaza.
In short, these four men are grossly incompetent. They join the club of other clueless leaders, such as those who waltzed into the suicidal slaughter of World War One, waded into the quagmire of Vietnam or who orchestrated the series of recent military debacles in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Ukraine. They are endowed with the presumptive power vested in the Executive Branch to bypass Congress, to provide weapons to Israel and carry out military strikes in Yemen and Iraq. This inner circle of true believers dismiss the more nuanced and informed counsels in the State Department and the intelligence communities, who view the refusal of the Biden administration to pressure Israel to halt the ongoing genocide as ill-advised and dangerous.
Biden has always been an ardent militarist — he was calling for war with Iraq five years before the U.S. invaded. He built his political career by catering to the distaste of the white middle class for the popular movements, including the anti-war and civil rights movements, that convulsed the country in the 1960s and 1970s. He is a Republican masquerading as a Democrat. He joined Southern segregationists to oppose bringing Black students into Whites-only schools. He opposed federal funding for abortions and supported a constitutional amendment allowing states to restrict abortions. He attacked President George H. W. Bush in 1989 for being too soft in the “war on drugs.” He was one of the architects of the 1994 crime bill and a raft of other draconian laws that more than doubled the U.S. prison population, militarized the police and pushed through drug laws that saw people incarcerated for life without parole. He supported the North American Free Trade Agreement, the greatest betrayal of the working class since the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act. He has always been a strident defender of Israel, bragging that he did more fundraisers for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) than any other Senator.
“As many of you heard me say before, were there no Israel, America would have to invent one. We’d have to invent one because… you protect our interests like we protect yours,” Biden said in 2015, to an audience that included the Israeli ambassador, at the 67th Annual Israeli Independence Day Celebration in Washington D.C. During the same speech he said, “The truth of the matter is we need you. The world needs you. Imagine what it would say about humanity and the future of the 21st century if Israel were not sustained, vibrant and free.”
The year before Biden gave a gushing eulogy for Ariel Sharon, the former Israeli prime minister and general who was implicated in massacres of Palestinians, Lebanese and others in Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon — as well as Egyptian prisoners of war — going back to the 1950s. He described Sharon as “part of one of the most remarkable founding generations in the history not of this nation, but of any nation.”

“Court Rules
Trudeau Freezing Civil Liberties Protesters’ Bank Accounts Violated Canada’s
Charter”
by Dan Frieth
Declared as
unjustified
In February
2022, amid the cross-country truck convoy civil liberties protests in Ottawa
against COVID-19 precautions and vaccine mandates, Justin Trudeau, the Prime
Minister, made an overreaching decision. He invoked
the Emergencies Act as a response to this challenge to
his overarching policies in a widespread attempt to silence and crush his
critics.
Under the
Emergencies Act, Trudeau, and his Finance Minister Chrystia
Freeland, froze the bank accounts of protesters and their supporters in one of
the biggest attacks on free speech and civil liberties that Canada has seen in recent
times.
However, a
Federal Court has now ruled that the Trudeau-led Liberal government overreached
its powers. Their act was declared unreasonable, unjustified, and violating the
Charter in a verdict published on a recent Tuesday.
We obtained a
copy of the verdict for you here.
Related: Trudeau says he feels “serene
and confident” over decision to freeze protesters’ bank accounts
Presiding
over the case, Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley found that whereas these
Freedom Convoy protests generated harm, they did not elevate to a threat
against national security as per the legal definition.
Proclaiming
the Emergencies Act in such a scenario, according to Mosley, lacked the
attributes of sound decision-making, including justification, transparency, and
intelligibility. Tracing the legal and factual constraints that must inform
such a resolve illuminated this lack for Mosley.
“I have
concluded that the decision to issue the Proclamation [of the Emergencies Act’
does not bear the hallmarks of reasonableness – justification, transparency and
intelligibility – and was not justified,” Mosley wrote.

“The Verdict”
by CJ Hopkins
So, my
show-trial for thoughtcrimes in criminal court in New
Normal Germany went pretty well. I was acquitted. Technically, it isn’t all
over, because the prosecutor has a week to appeal the decision, but, given the
circumstances, I doubt he will. He made a total fool of himself in front of a
large audience yesterday. I can’t imagine that he will want to do that again.
I’ll write
about my day in court in detail once I’ve slept for week. I’m exhausted. This
Kafkaesque mockery of justice has been going for eight months now, and it has
been rather stressful. For now, I’m just going to provide a few links to
coverage of the trial and my statement to the court (which anyone is free to
share and republish).
Despite (or perhaps because of) the coverage of this story by some of the mainstream press — i.e., The Atlantic and Neue Zürcher Zeitung— Matt Taibbi for Racket News and many independent media outlets, not one mainstream German journalist has had the courage (or has been given permission) to report on it. So, here’s some coverage from the independent German media. . . . .
Here’s the
statement I read out in court. You can probably imagine how the judge and
prosecutor felt about it. (If not, well, read Aya’s
Velázquez’s coverage. The part where the judge put on a mask to make a
statement as she exited the courtroom is probably my favorite part.)
Berlin District Court, January 23,
2024
My name is CJ
Hopkins. I am an American playwright, author, and political satirist. My plays
have been produced and received critical acclaim internationally. My political
satire and commentary is read by hundreds of thousands of people all over the
world. 20 years ago, I left my own country because of the fascistic atmosphere
that had taken hold of the USA at that time, the time of the US invasion of
Iraq, a war of aggression based on my government's lies. I emigrated
to Germany and made a new life here in Berlin, because I believed that Germany,
given its history, would be the last place on earth to ever have anything to do
with any form of totalitarianism again.
The gods have
a strange sense of humor. This past week, thousands of people have been out in
the streets all over Germany protesting against fascism, chanting "never
again is now." Many of these people spent the past three years, 2020 to
2023, unquestioningly obeying orders, parroting official propaganda, and
demonizing anyone who dared to question the government's unconstitutional and
authoritarian actions during the so-called Covid
pandemic. Many of these same people, those who support Palestinian rights, are
now shocked that the new form of totalitarianism they helped usher into existence
is being turned against them.
And here I
am, in criminal court in Berlin, accused of disseminating pro-Nazi propaganda
in two Tweets about mask mandates. The German authorities have had my speech
censored on the Internet, and have damaged my reputation and income as an
author. One of my books has been banned by Amazon in Germany. All this because I criticized the German authorities, because I
mocked one of their decrees, because I pointed out one of their lies.
This turn of
events would be absurdly comical if it were not so infuriating. I cannot
adequately express how insulting it is to be forced to sit here and affirm my
opposition to fascism. For over thirty years, I have written and spoken out
against fascism, authoritarianism, totalitarianism etc. Anyone can do an
Internet search, find my books, read the reviews of my plays, read my essays,
and discover who I am and what my political views are in two or three minutes.
And yet I am accused by the German authorities of disseminating pro-Nazi propaganda.
I am accused of doing this because I posted two Tweets challenging the official
Covid narrative and comparing the new, nascent form
of totalitarianism that it has brought into being -- i.e., the so-called
"New Normal" -- to Nazi Germany.
Let me be very
clear. In those two Tweets, and in my essays throughout 2020 to 2022, and in my
current essays, I have indeed compared the rise of this new form of
totalitarianism to the rise of the best-known 20th-Century form of
totalitarianism, i.e., Nazi Germany. I have made this comparison, and analyzed
the similarities and differences between these two forms of totalitarianism,
over and over again. And I will continue to do so. I will continue to analyze
and attempt to explain this new, emerging form of totalitarianism, and to
oppose it, and warn my readers about it.

The Norwegian
Refugee Council has operated in Gaza for the past 16 years with about 50 people
on the ground. Like the rest of the population, its workers are suffering too.
“They’ve experienced loss, grief, displacement and of course fear. Their
children cannot have a full night of sleep, fresh food, or clean water for 100
days now,” the aid group’s Ahmed Bayram told Al Jazeera. “This very dark moment reminds us that Gaza has
been made unlivable for military reasons and all civilians are paying the
price. Sadly, we are saying the same thing repeatedly: ‘Stop the bloodshed
now.’” Aid groups say relentless Israeli bombardment impedes delivery of
humanitarian relief in Gaza where about 25 percent of the population is
starving.

“‘Can
Machines Think and How Can They Think”: What Is More Dangerous? Artificial Intelligence or Natural Intelligence?
”
by Dicle Eroğul
There is a
concept which is called ubiquitous. This word is used in
relation to the following concepts:
·
existing everywhere at the same time,
·
always everywhere,
·
prevalent,
·
sprouts without planting,
·
immanent.
Historically,
the Telecommunications world was familiar with this concept because people were
able to communicate regardless of distance by means of various
telecommunications technologies.
Today the
“ubiquitous” concept has become extensive with the advent of Artificial
Intelligence.
Thereafter
artificial intelligence exists everywhere, we run across it at any moment maybe
without realizing.
Artificial
intelligence has become widespread in the last several years. But the idea
underlying this technology is not new. English mathematician Alan Turing
was the first person who put forward the artificial intelligence idea. Turing
wrote an article titled “Computing Machinery and Intelligence” in the 1950
October issue of the Mind Magazine. In this article Turing opened a
philosophical discussion on the “Can machines think?” question and
rejected the oppositions to the argument of “machines thinking”.
In our
country, worldwide known Turkish mathematician and scientist Cahit Arf was
dealing with the same subject in his conference presentation titled “Can
machine think and how can it think?” given within the scope of Public
Conferences organized by Erzurum Atatürk University
in the year 1959.
In his
conference presentation, Cahit Arf was comparing the human brain with machines and saying
that it is possible to design a machine which can develop itself. But he
ended his conference presentation by emphasizing his concerns about the
machine’s inability to make decisions taking into account the aesthetics
qualifications.
“The notion
which characterizes these qualifications is that all of them contains
an uncertainty element and there is no certain rule that they strictly obey.
There are natural events external to humans, with uncertain characteristics.
These are events taking place inside atoms. As such, if the events taking place
in a relatively small amount of atoms, can be made
effective in the operation of machines, we can hope that the machines can
resemble human brain in terms of aesthetics. … But I believe that it is
impossible to do this, not even after many centuries.”
The concerns of Cahit Arf is still valid today, even though the
technology is evolving at an exponential pace.
Artificial
Intelligence (AI) was officially born in 1956, the year of a highly notable summer conference held at Dartmouth
College in New Hampshire, USA.
A group of
mathematicians and computer scientists dreamed about a new research area during
their meetings which lasted 8 weeks.
John
McCarthy, then a young professor at Dartmouth, had coined the term “artificial
intelligence” when he
wrote his proposal for the workshop, which he said would explore the hypothesis
that “every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in
principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it.”
“There have
been three important events in the past.
The first is
the formation of the universe.
The second is
the formation of the beginning of life.
And the
third, with the same degree of importance, is the emergence of artificial
intelligence.”
Those are the
words of Edward Fredkin, Computer Scientist at
MIT who died at the age of 88 last year, in a BBC interview.
This
evaluation made by Fredkin about the importance of
artificial intelligence, is not an exaggerated, unsupported argument only valid
in the computer scientists’ world. The artificial intelligence concept, after
being first used in 1956, has been a subject on which many researchers from
different disciplines have been working on intensively. The point arrived,
destination and the prospects about the future is quite contentious because of
the different opinions and discrete approaches to the subject.
Stephen
Hawking, one of Britain’s pre-eminent
scientists, who was well aware of the importance of research about the
artificial intelligence and in fact was in need of a primitive form of
artificial intelligence in his communication with the world, has been skeptical
about the development of artificial intelligence, saying that the primitive
forms of artificial intelligence developed so far have already proved very
useful, but he fears the consequences of creating something that can match or
surpass humans. He told the BBC:
“The
development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human
race.”
According to
Hawking, it would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever
increasing rate, but humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution,
couldn’t compete, and would be superseded.
The probability of developing very robust autonomous weapons or new
ways of oppressive methods in authoritarian regimes by using artificial
intelligence were the threats which Hawking emphasized.
