Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,
We seem to be approaching a new era of loudly vaunted “respectable genocide.” There is the growing acknowledgment of the “death of democracy,” reposingsomewhere under the foreboding shadow of an imminent Dictatorship. This development seems to be acknowledged by all sides; the only question remaining is: Whose Dictatorship – will it be a dictatorship for the corporate capitalist class, or a dictatorship for the working class? Whose interests will be served?
Over the past two centuries, much theoretical work has been produced that would indicate a blueprint for the transition from the system of "capitalism-in-crisis" towards a new political economy, taking us from “bourgeois limited democracy” to the construction of a “socialist democracy,” paradoxically operating under the umbrella of a dictatorship –not controled by monopoly capitalists and oligarchs who implement their own public policy; but rather a dictatorship fully opereated by class-conscious working people who protect the interests of the previously disenfranchised. According to this historic theoretical work, the arrival of the workingclass to the status of significant political actor involves the creation of new institutions which cannot be created out of thin air, but must constitute an organic evolution within the existing institutions that have been developed over the past centuries, during the various morphologies of capitalist development – including changes undergone in workers’ relationships during the transformation from mercantile capitalist society, into industrial capitalism, and proceeding to the financial capitalist period, all of which bare the traces of past formations.
Over time, we will inevitably gain the necessary wisdom not to throw out the proverbial baby with the bath, but instead to inspect the past and identify those desirable formations which we might want to reinstitute in our future society, once we have gained true democratic control over the political economy and made it serviceable in the interests of all.
This paradox between “socialist democracy” and “working-class dictatorship” has disturbed many people for a long time. It was the impetus for Pope Leo XIII’s famous Encyclical on Capital and Labor of 1891; “Rerum Novarum,” was a major assault on the Second Socialist International before the onslaught of World War I and the unprecedented massacre of workers by workers, under the auspice of military capitalist investments. (Read the encyclical from the Holy See, Rights and Duties of Capital and Labor.) The paradox of a “democratic dictatorship” is addressed by Lenin (1870-1924), whose Marxist credentials were questioned by Karl Kautsky (1854-1938) at the time of the Russian Revolution, when he described the necessary formation of “soviets,” (workers councils), at the local level across Russia, at the sites of daily production: in factories, workshops, farms, military installations, offices, police units, etc., etc…
These local workers councils would be at the bottom rung of a ladder which led up through various regional and occupational organizations, to the central decision-making body at the national level. The process within this political structure Lenin called “democratic centralism.” The existing medieval remnants of serfdom in Russia and the mentality it perpetuated was an acknowledge handicap for cosmopolitan socialists like Lenin, but the gains from trying to implement this system would save an untold number of lives during the murderous war years. It could not produce Socialism, as Marx (1818-1883) had envisioned it (e.g. the takeover and replacement of the capitalist state apparatus by a fully class-conscious and well-educated labor force), but it was hoped that this effort could enable Russia to bring this industrialized war machine, which had been raging since the summer of 1914, to an end; while at the same time enlighten workers around the world of their potential power to challenge the formal authorities which were increasingly recognized as representing an illegitimate “dictatorship of the international financial capitalist class.”
The new idea in post-feudal Russia was the possibility to “telescope” the socialist revolution by using the power of the Russian socialist state to bypass the capitalist stage of economic development, and to replace the Tsarist state apparatus with an elite “vanguard Party”: the de facto dictatorship of the Bolshevik Party over Russian workers by elite Party top-down control at every level --from the local soviets, up to the national central committee. (Socialism was seen by all factions as a temporary stage in a development which would lead from the capitalist political economy to a non-authoritarian formation of a desired political economy they all called “Communism,” thereby completely disarming the capitalist class and removing it from its historic control over workers and the environment in the pursuit of private profits, and realizing the goal of an egalitarian society, sans social class domination.
“Either Marx was wrong, or Lenin is wrong; they both can’t be right” wrote Kautsky in 1918. Some critics claimed that Lenin had simply mirrored the existing monopoly capitalist formation of dictatorial power over society. The international socialist revolution failed to materialize at the end of WWI, and “socialism in one country” soon replaced the revolutionay agenda for international socialism. The necessary constituent elements for the successful implementation of “scientific socialism,” according to Marx --as outlined abov-- did not exist in Russia, and an intractable, top-down command economy quickly took root. Massive suffering and sincere idealism were apparently not enough to bring about democratic socialist change in a hostile world.

A radicalized IDF sees all Palestinians as terrorists
Gaza has become a killing field—that is the view of a well-informed Israeli veteran who was an enthusiastic supporter of the initial Israeli response to the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023. He believes that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the mastermind of the all-out retaliatory bombing and ground attack there, is now a contemporary Colonel Kurtz, the psychotic killer of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, the famed Vietnam War movie of 1979 based on Joseph Conrad’s 1899 novella Heart of Darkness.
What began as a retaliatory war by the internationally revered Israel Defense Forces against a disciplined Hamas guerilla force turned into the systematic starvation of a society whose civilian survivors—men, women, and children—are the victims of an Israeli military whose combat units are often led by the second generation of Israeli settlers. These officers, increasingly prominent as the war in Gaza goes on, are religious zealot majors and lieutenant colonels who believe it is their calling to shoot and kill any Palestinian who moves, whether combatant or civilian.
There are more than 120 Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including fifteen in East Jerusalem. There are also more than two hundred illegal outposts that are supplied with weapons by the increasingly radical Israeli government while not officially sanctioned by that government. Violence against Palestinians in the West Bank has grown steadily, including Israeli Air Force bombing missions.
The IDF recruiting pattern explains the growing violence against Palestinian men, women, and children in the war. I was told that 40 to 45 percent of today’s higher officers in the IDF come from settler families in the West Bank who combine “deep religiosity with Netanyahu’s political fervor.’’ The Israeli veteran told me of watching in horror, with colleagues, as Israeli bombings and earth-moving machinery were continuing to, as he put it, “level” north Gaza and turn it into a dead zone. He said that there “have been more and more reports of colonels and even generals issuing orders to kill every Palestinian you see and destroy every building still standing. Israel’s war in Gaza has become fanatical. It’s apocalypse now. Killing for killing’s sake. It is corruption like never before.”

sa coopération en 1978-1979 comme chirurgien dans un poste isolé en

email anonyme, la chambre disciplinaire du Conseil de l'Ordre saisit le

l'Ordre porte alors plainte devant sa propre juridiction et condamne à
un blâme le Professeur le 12 juin 2015.

Healthcare workers and social media users from around the globe are demanding the immediate release of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, director of the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza, who is currently being detained by Israel's military.
Doctors, medical professionals and regular civilians have taken to social media this week to share their support for Abu Safiya, using the hashtag "FreeDrHussamAbuSafiyeh", as well as amplifying demands that Israel stop attacking Gaza's hospitals in its war on the besieged enclave which began in October 2023.
In addition to the trending hashtag, a petition was started on the Change.org platform.
The petition is addressed to US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and calls on “the international community, particularly the United States, to use its influence and authority to force Israel to immediately release Dr Abu Safiya and other medical personnel and patients detained at Kamal Adwan”.

The grand jury, convened in December 2022 to investigate “any and all wrongdoing” related to COVID-19 vaccines found no criminal activity, but did find a “pattern of deceptive and obfuscatory behavior on the part of sponsors and regulators that often straddled the line between ethical and unethical conduct.”
A Florida grand jury found “profound and serious issues involving the process of vaccine development and safety surveillance in the United States,” according to a report unsealed on Tuesday.
Gov. Ron DeSantis convened the grand jury in December 2022 to investigate “any and all wrongdoing” concerning COVID-19 vaccines. Jury members reviewed documents and interviewed witnesses involved in the COVID-19 production process.
“While we did not find criminal activity,” they wrote in their 140-page report, “we did find a pattern of deceptive and obfuscatory behavior on the part of sponsors and regulators that often straddled the line between ethical and unethical conduct.”
They added:
“More importantly, however, not finding any indictable criminal activity does not mean we did not find any problems. On the contrary, there are profound and serious issues involving the process of vaccine development and safety surveillance in the United States.
“Some of those are acute, COVID-19-era problems that are unlikely to occur outside the context of another once-in-a-hundred-year pandemic. Others, however, are systemic; they will occur over and over until someone fixes them.”
Commenting on the jury’s conclusion, Peter Doshi, Ph.D., told The Defender, “It strikes me as a sober and honest appraisal of the situation.”
Doshi is a senior editor at The BMJ and associate professor of pharmaceutical health services research at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. In July 2024, he published a BMJ investigation on the “revolving door” between the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the pharmaceutical industry.
The investigation revealed that departing FDA staff who take industry jobs are allowed to influence the FDA “behind the scenes.”
An Associated Press (AP) story — picked up by multiple news outlets including CBS News and MedPage Today — ran with a headline focused on “no evidence of criminal activity.”
However, those headlines contrasted with what DeSantis said on X about the jury’s findings.
