Pulp Fiction is a 1994 American independent crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino from a story he conceived with Roger Avary It tells four intertwining tales of crime and violence in Los Angeles, California. The film stars John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman. The title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and punchy dialogue.
Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" stands as a timeless masterpiece that effortlessly blends razor-sharp dialogue, unforgettable characters, dark humor, and a non-linear structure. With its irreverent attitude towards extreme violence, the film manages to captivate audiences while offering a thought-provoking exploration of nihilism and human nature. From its stellar performances to its meticulously woven narratives, "Pulp Fiction" remains a cinematic triumph that continues to enthrall and entertain.
At the heart of "Pulp Fiction" lies its unparalleled wit, exhibited through its exceptionally crafted dialogue. Tarantino's script transforms even the most mundane conversations into moments of irresistibly entertaining banter. This linguistic dexterity not only showcases the director's mastery but also injects an unparalleled energy into the film. Furthermore, the characters portrayed by the talented ensemble cast, particularly the standout performance by John Travolta as Vincent Vega, breathe life into the screen. Their unique personalities and quirks add depth and resonance, making the audience genuinely care about their fates.
One of the film's remarkable achievements is its ability to navigate a fine line between humor and nihilism. "Pulp Fiction" embraces the darkest corners of human existence, juxtaposing extreme violence with hilariously dark comedic moments. It successfully invites viewers to question their own moral compasses and explore the absurdity of life. By delving into the underworld of crime and portraying flawed characters with undeniable charisma, the film becomes an engrossing study of human nature and the choices that define us.
Tarantino's non-linear storytelling technique elevates "Pulp Fiction" to unparalleled heights. The film seamlessly weaves together multiple story lines, effortlessly connecting them to create a cohesive and layered narrative. This structural brilliance not only enhances the suspense but also ensures endless rewatchability. With each viewing, new details and connections emerge, inviting audiences to delve deeper into the intricate web of interwoven tales. The result is a truly immersive experience that rewards viewers with each subsequent watch.
Beneath its nihilistic exterior, "Pulp Fiction" reveals unexpected moments of emotional depth and sincerity. Despite the characters' morally ambiguous actions, the film manages to evoke empathy and compassion from the audience. It explores themes of redemption, loyalty, and the pursuit of personal identity, showcasing the nuanced complexity of the human condition.
Complementing the narrative, the film's eclectic soundtrack breathes life into its scenes and characters. From the soulful beats of "Son of a Preacher Man" to the adrenaline-inducing energy of "Misirlou," the music becomes an integral part of the storytelling process. It amplifies the emotions, sets the tone, and enhances the overall cinematic experience, further solidifying "Pulp Fiction" as a genre-defining classic.
"Pulp Fiction" is a cinematic tour de force that continues to captivate audiences years after its release. Tarantino's sharp writing, exceptional performances, and masterful storytelling combine to create a darkly humorous exploration of violence, morality, and the human condition. With its non-linear structure, unforgettable characters, and an infectious soundtrack, the film remains an enduring masterpiece that stands as a testament to the power of cinema.

Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,
We have presented thus far the first four chapters of The Medieval World View (1983), by William Cook and Ronald Herzman which describes the historic antecedents of the Middle Ages, including the Biblical heritage (both Old and New Testaments), the Greco-Roman influences, and Early Christianity within the Roman Empire, ending with the influential writings of the pre-medieval theologians Saint Jerome (342-420) Saint Augustine (354-430). The second part of this book depicts the Early Middle Ages (chapters 5, 6, and 7) beginning with the disintegration of the Roman Empire, the Germanic invasions, continuing through the 6th and 7th centuries to about the middle of the 11th century. The third and final part of this book (chapters 8, 9, and 10) provides material from the second half of the 11th century until 1300, a period known in Europe as the High Middle Ages.
Following the discussion of pre-medieval cultural roots of European history, we now turn to chapter 5, titled “The Transition from Ancient to Medieval.” The Judaeo-Christian and Greco-Roman sources of medieval civilization have been examined, along with their contact and interactions during the period of the Roman Empire. But the Empire ceased to exist in the West only 46 years after the death of Augustine. The Latin-Christian culture continued to develop without the strong institutional and psychological base which the Roman Empire had provided, and other cultural and social traditions began to interact with the Latin-Christian culture, especially those of the Germanic invaders, but also those of the Celtic peoples, especially missionaries from Ireland. “The transition from Ancient Rome to the Middle Ages,” according to these authors, “is one of the most important chapters in the development of Western civilization.”(p.115)
The End of the Roman Empire in the West.
Edward Gibbon opined in his monumental book, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (1776), that, “the second century A.D. was the best time to have been alive in all of history.”
Gibbon may have exaggerated, but there surely is much to support his position. An empire relatively free of foreign or domestic problems starched from the wall of Hadrian –roughly the border between England and Scotland-- to the Persian Gulf, encompassing the entire Mediterranean and parts of three continents. To those alive at the time, it may well have seemed that this huge empire and its way of life would last forever. Yet, beginning in 180, the Empire suffered through a century of political instability; and although in the next century the powerful Emperors Diocletian (r.284-305) and Constantine (r.312-37) carried out a reform, they failed to return the Empire to its unchallenged military position or its earlier quality of life. Following the death of Constantine, the story of the Empire in the West is one of almost constant defensive war and political disintegration, until in 476 its last emperor was deposed almost without notice or immediate impact.
In fact, the second century, Gibbon’s age of prosperity and stability, was not without its unresolved problems. One of them was the method of imperial succession. In the first eighty years of that century, the emperors were all hand-picked successors of their sonless predecessors, all competent administrators and generals. However, Marcus Aurelius (d.180) chose to leave the Empire to his incompetent son Commodus, whose excesses, leading to his assassination, ushered in a century of political instability highlighted by frequent military coups. Moreover, Marcus Aurelius was forced to fight Germanic invaders along the Danube frontier; and though he was essentially successful, the Germans continued to exert pressure along that hard-to-defend northwestern border of the empire until their large-scale migrations in the fourth century. A serious plague during Marcus Aurelius’s reign had a significant impact on agriculture, trade, and the army. The resulting shortage of soldiers offered a temptation to the Germanic tribes to raid the Empire across the Rhine-Danube frontier, which was almost irresistible when combined with the fact that Roman generals and their armies frequently left their border posts to march on Rome and claim the imperial title.
A century after Marcus Aurelius the Empire appeared to enter a new period of stability under Diocletian, a peasant who rose to power through the army. In his twenty-one-year reign, he was able to renew and reorder the Roman state. Because of the shortage of soldiers and the threat of generals desiring the imperial title, the army was reorganized; non-Roman citizens, including many Germans in the West, became its main element. The Empire was divided into two parts, with Diocletian and a ‘junior emperor’ administering each of the two halves. To insure stability and production of necessary products, the emperor forced people to remain fixed in their professions and to train their children to succeed them; many farmers were required to remain on the land even if they could not make enough money to live; The Empire entered a new period in other ways as well: court ceremonies became more elaborate, and the emperor became a more remote figure, surrounded by eunuchs from the East. When he appeared in public, he wore jewel-encrusted clothes and shoes. Toward the end of his reign, Diocletian became convinced that Christianity was a serious obstacle to the consolidation of the Empire, and he carried out … [a] great persecution….
With the retirement of Diocletian in 305 came a struggle to determine his successor. In the West, the winner was decided at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in 312; it was Constantine. Although best known for his conversion to Christianity, he is also an important figure in the political history of the Empire, retaining Diocletian’s reforms and making major change in the structure of the army. Furthermore, he decided to build a splendid new city in the East in his own honor; choosing the site of the old Greek city of Byzantium near the entrance to the Black Sea, he erected Constantinople. By the end of the the century, it had become the administrative capital of the Empire in the East, a new and Christian Rome.(pp.116-117)
Germanic Culutre and Society.
The Franks, who originally entered the Empire in the pay of Rome, came to rule the northern part of Gaul before 500. By the middle of the sixth century, they had wrested control of southwestern Gaul form the Visigoths and southeastern Gaul from the Burgundians, thus ruling whqt is now roughly France plus Germany west of the Rhine. The Franks were pagan until the baptism of their able King Clovis (d.511) as a Catholic. Although the Frankish kingdom suffered from interminable civil wars, often splitting into virtually independent kingdoms upon the death of a king, the Dynasty of Clovis, the Merovingian dynasty, ruled at least in name until 751. From the mid-seventh century on, however, Merovingian kings were almost without exception feeble in both mind and body; and the rule of the kingdom soon passed de facto to the family that had made itself the heredity mayors of the palace, later called the Carolingians. It was the Carolingian mayor of the palace, Charles Martel, who defeated the Moslems at the important battle of Tours/Poitiers in 732-33; his son Pepin (whose son was Charlemagne), with papal approval, took the crown from the Merovingians in 751.
Odoacer, the German general who deposed the last Roman emperor in Italy in 476, belonged to a small tribe. In 493, he was defeated in battle by Theodoric the Ostrogoth (d.526), who, despite his Arian Christianity, had the support of the Catholic emperors in Constantinople. Theodoric’s court was centered in Ravenna, the last imperial capital in the West, and contained men of great genius, including Boethius and Cassiodorus. However, Ostrogothic rule in Italy did not long survive Theodoric; Justinian, investing enormous resources, conquered Italy through a series of destructive wars that severely damaged Italy’s central economic and cultural position in the world. Despite Justinian’s efforts, Byzantine rule lasted no longer than had the Ostorgothic; in 568, three years after his death, the Arian Lombards, invading Italy from the North, took virtually all of northern and central Italy save Ravenna and Rome. These Lombards, who eventually became Catholic while nevertheless remaining political enemies of both the pope and the Byzantine Empire, ruled most of Italy until 774, when Charlemagne took their iron crown for himself.
Not all Germans moved into the Roman Empire. To the east of the Rhine were Germanic peoples such as the Saxons and the Bavarians. They remained pagan until the eighth century when missionary activity in the first half of the century and Charlemagne’s armies in the second brought Christianity and the culture that accompanied it. To the north, in Scandinavia, where other Germanic people, who remained pagan until some of them (the Vikings) invaded and settled in Britain and the Frankish kingdom, where they accepted Christianity in the ninth and tenth centuries. Shortly thereafter, missionaries brought Christianity to the inhabitants of Scandinavia itself.
The culture and society of the Germans and the ideas and institutions they brought with them into the Roman Empire are in some ways more difficult to describe with precision than the process of migration. Historians are hampered by the fact that Germanic cultures was not a written culture until it came into contact with the Roman world, and more especially with Christianity. Thus the earliest written records of the Germans come from Roman authors. As early as the second century A.D., they were described by the Roman historian Tacitus. Although he was more interested in teaching his own society moral lessons than objectively describing German customs and although he perceived the Germans in Roman terms, his descriptions are nonetheless useful.
. . .
Tacitus … explains the personal relationship between a chieftain and his warriors:
‘When they go into battle, it is a disgrace for a chief to be surpassed in valor, a disgrace for his follower’s not to equal the valor of the chief. And it is an infamy and a reproach for life to have survived the chief, and returned from the field. To defend, to protect him, to ascribe one’s own brave deeds to his renown is the height of loyalty. The chief fights for victory; his vassals fight for their chief.’
This material quality and sense of personal loyalty between chief and vassal became important elements of medieval society, elements vital to a proper understanding of such important literary works as Beowulf and the Song of Roland and to the kinds of relationships usually described as feudal.
The military character of Germanic society posed the same difficult problems of cultural assimilation that the conversion of Constantine had earlier, for Christianity in its origins was essentially pacifist. As late as the fourth century the most popular saints included men who refused to fight in the army or who left the military in order to pursue lives of holiness (for example, Saint Sebastian and Saint Martin of Tours). Although Ambrose condoned violence and Augustine developed a theory of the just war, the Church hardly glorified violence to the extent that the Germans did. When Germans like Clovis accepted Christianity, they saw Christ not as the Prince of Peace but as a warrior god; that is, to accept him in terms they understood, they interpreted his life and teaching in ways different from their original intent. During the time of the Germanic kingdom, legends of warrior saints such as Saint George were created. Yet though the Church tolerated and sometimes even encouraged violence, as late as the tenth and eleventh centuries it organized peace movements to try to diminish the violence within Europe. Only in the twelfth century, the heyday of the Crusades, did the glorification of violence become a part of the Catholic tradition.
Germanic law differed in many essentials from Roman law. In particular, Germanic law was personal while Roman law was territorial. (A Lombard was judged by Lombard law no matter where he was –who a person was determined the law which governed him; a person within the boundaries of the Roman Empire was subject to Roman law no matter what ethnic group he belonged to –where a person was determined what law governed him.) The surviving law codes of the Germans –the codification and publication of law was itself a Roman borrowing, as was the Latin in which they were written—contain elements of both personality and territoriality, but ultimately the Roman principle won out.
The idea of the state was an integral part of Roman law and Roman political philosophy; the Germans however had no conception of the state. A German king did not perceive himself as the ruler of all the people within a clearly defined territory but rather as the leader of a group of free warriors. The land a king controlled was treated as personal property and usually divided among his male heirs. It was centuries before the Roman idea of the state replaced the Germanic idea of kingship.
Germanic law allowed bloodfeuds; it permitted an injured family to seek revenge against the offender’s family. Obviously, this was a custom that led to a great deal of violence, often escalating to become a serious problem of tribal unity and even survival. To mitigate this problem, the Germanic tribes, borrowing from the Roman system of fining a person for an offense, developed the wergild, the money value of a person that was to be paid to the injured family. The following selections from Rothair’s Edict of 643, the earliest surviving laws of the Lombards, illustrates the use of the wergild alongside a more purely Roman system of fines:
‘49. On cutting off noses. He who cuts off another man’s nose shall pay half of that one’s wergild as composition.
50. On cutting off lips. He who cuts off another man’s lip shall pay sixteen soldi as composition [compensation]. And if one, two or three teeth are thereby exposed, he shall pay twenty soldi as composition.’
Not every person’s wergild was the same, as is clear from a list of penalties for murder in the early six-century Burundian Code:
‘Then the guilty party shall be compelled to pay to the relative of the person killed half his wergild according to the status of the person: that is, if he shall have killed a noble of the highest class, we decree that the payment be set as one hundred fifty soldi, i.e., half his wergild; if a person of the middle class, one hundred soldi; if a person of the lowest class, seventy-five soldi.’
Germanic law was localized, putting much of the responsibility of justice on small groups –the family and the neighborhood in particular –to report crimes and to swear to a person’s innocence. Out of this Germanic sense of local responsibility eventually come both the grand jury, a body to inquiry and gather evidence; and the trial jury, a body to determine innocence and guilt. Both developed in medieval England.
On occasion, Germanic law called for trial by combat to determine guilt or even trial by ordeal; for example, a suspect’s guilt or innocence would be determined by requiring the suspect to hold a bar of red-hot iron until it burned the hand. If the burn healed, the person was innocent; if it did not, the person was guilty. These primitive methods of judgment survived in some parts of Europe until the thirteenth century, a time when Roman law was once again being studied. In literature, one finds trial by combat in the twelfth-century Song of Roland.
When the Germans entered the Empire, they not only brought their political and social institutions but also their languages and cultures. In areas where Roman influence remained the greatest –present-day Italy, France, and Spain—vernacular languages developed from Latin, although they were not unaffected by Germanic tongues. But In England, Germany, and Scandinavia the vernacular languages were and indeed still are Germanic. Thus the very medium of thought and expression in a large part of Europe in the Middle Ages –especially the later Middle Age, when vernacular literature flourished—came from the Germans. In art, Germanic elements of style, especially the tendency toward abstractions, exerted strong influence throughout the Middle Ages, the abstract quality of early medieval art contrasting with the more realistic art of the Roman Empire. The Germanic style, which is evident in such striking interlace designs as the treasure from the Anglo-Saxon Sutton Hoo burial ship, later blended with elements form the Celtic and classical traditions to produce much great manuscript illumination and sculpture of the Middle Ages. Stories from the heroic Germanic past, its gods and heroes, are another important transmission. These stories too blend with other traditions, as in the fruitful synthesis of pagan and Christian in Old English poetry, seen in such poems as Beowulf, ‘The Dream of the Road,’ ‘The Wanderer,’ and ‘The Seafarer,’ Stories from Germanic mythology also became incorporated into such Christian literary forms as saints’ lives. Even the modern English names for the days of the week come from German mythology.
The Germanic peoples looked to their past to find a model for the way things should be. They believed that law, for example, had been perfect in their past but was obscure and corrupt in the present. Thus good law was to be discovered not made. Although they sometimes allowed for new laws to be created by giving them a past, it was not until the revival of Roman law in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries that new laws could consciously be legislated. The idea that one had to find truth by looking to the past and stripping away modern accretions found resonance in both the Christian and classical traditions, in which people looked back to the Garden of Eden or the Golden Age. These three traditions thus reinforced one another in the Middle Ages. The decline of the world since the golden days is a concept of singular importance of medieval literature and historiography.
The collapse of the Roman Empire in the West ushered in a period of violence and chaos, a decline of culture and literacy as well as other woes.(pp.120-126)
Gregory the Great and the Papacy.
At the end of the sixth century, in a period of papal impotence in Western Europe and of an unstable relationship between the papacy and the Byzantine Empire, came the pontificate of Gregory the Great (r.590-604), often called the founder of the medieval papacy. Gregory, a monk with a well-deserved reputation for holiness at the time of his election, accepted and, in fact, furthered Leo the Great’s claims of papal authority. In a letter to the Bishop of Alexandria, he brought the three important Petrine texts together to put forth the claim of universal papal jurisdiction:
‘For who can be ignorant that holy Church has been made firm in the solidity of the Prince of the apostles, who derived his name from the firmness of his mind, so as to be called Petrus from petra. And to him it is said by the voice of the Truth, ‘To thee I will give the keys to the kingdom of heaven’ (Mt.16:19). And once more, ‘Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Feed My sheep’ (Jn.21:17). Wherefore, though there are many apostles, yet with regard to the principality itself the See of the Prince of the apostles alone has grown strong in authority . . . . For he himself adorned the See to which he sent his disciple as evangelist. He himself established the See in which, though he was to leave it, he sat for seven years.’
Gregory had spent time in Constantinople as a papal ambassador before his election and had come to doubt that the papacy could count on imperial help. Thus his policy was to make the papacy independent of Byzantium. For example, he made peace with the Lombards without informing the emperor. He also took charge of provisioning and defending the city of Rome, so that it would not be dependent upon an imperial army.
. . .
Related to his desire to spread Christianity was his concern for the education of people who were already at least nominally Christian. Concerned that his flock was worshipping images in church, the bishop of Marseilles had ordered their destruction. Gregory’s prohibition of this order presents the theory of the use of art in Christian instruction that became standard in the Middle Ages:
‘For to adore a picture is one thing, but to learn through the story of a picture what is to be adored is another. For what writing presents to readers, this a picture presents to the unlearned who behold it, since in it even the ignorant see what they ought to follow; in it the illiterate read. Hence and chiefly to the nations, a picture is instead of reading. And this ought to have been attended to especially by thee who livest among the nations, lest, while enflamed inconsiderately by the right zeal, thou shouldst breed offense to savage minds. And, seeing that antiquity has not without reason admitted the histories of saints to be painted in venerable places, if thou hadst seasoned zeal with discretion, thou mightiest undoubtedly have obtained what thou were aiming at, and not scattered the collected flock but rather gathered together a scattered one; so the deserved renown of a shepherd might have distinguished thee, instead of the blame of being a scatterer lying upon thee.’
This statement of Gregory’s --echoing once again the theme of moving from visible to invisible-- became the dominant attitude of the Church toward art in the Middle Ages. Christian art flourished with little opposition before the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century, and richly decorated Romanesque abbeys and Gothic cathedrals were in a real sense the books of the laity.
Gregory’s writings were of enormous importance for the Middle Ages. He was regarded as one of the four Latin doctors, along with Jerome, Ambrose, and Augustine. Perhaps the best known work in the Middle Ages was the Pastoral Care, a standard manual of conduct for bishops and later for parish priests. As the title suggests, Christ and his representatives, the bishops, are seen as shepherds. This image, which Gregory employs effectively in the letter quoted above, comes, of course, from the Gospels. The good shepherd was the most common depiction of Christ in the art of the catacombs and in churches built immediately following the conversion of Constantine. . . . Gregory’s achievement was to address the question of what it meant to be a good shepherd in a world quite different from that of the New Testament.(pp.142-144)
Intellectual Developments.
Gregory of Tours was surely right when he described his age as one of general educational and intellectual decline. However, this should not be taken to mean that the era was without writers of sophistication and influence. Gregory the Great is only one of several writers in the three centuries following the end of the Roman Empire in the West who can be called, along with Jerome and Augustine, founders of the medieval world view.(p.148)
In their book on the Early Middle Ages, Cook and Herzman conclude their first chapter in Part 2 with the observation that, “The period discussed in this chapter was clearly an end –but was also a beginning.”
This period of destruction, chaos, and cultural decline was also one of creativity, synthesis, and even genius. The traditions that came together often clashed, bringing confusion and bloodshed. But the Roman Empire that disappeared in the West in 476 was not the empire of Augustus or of the second century; it was rather a totalitarian , oppressive, and inefficient empire whose demise was an opportunity to start over, to create a new civilization. Although that civilization did not begin to flourish until the reign of Charlemagne (r.768-814) or perhaps even later, without the experimentation, dedication, and inventiveness of people in the centuries following the collapse of the Empire it could never have come into being. More than most periods of history, this was indeed an age of transition, perhaps even the greatest age of transition in the history of Western civilization.(pp.164-165)
In the 23+ items below readers will find essays and articles which have circulated recently in the Anglophone social media. They reflect the multiple crises we are facing in today’s world, where extreme inequalities have produced an international class of oligarchs who are wheeling an unprecedented private control over society in the context of corporate domination and imperial collapse. Barbarism and sadistic caprice over the powerless remains supported by a silent collaboration of the masses. The structural inequalities which we now accept as “normal” have led us into a condition of self-deception and denial, a time ripe for the appearance of a Fuhrer to command his uncritical vassals, with all meaningful negotiations off the table!
Questions remain: How did we get to this point? Where are we headed? And what authentic democratic solutions can be developed in this controlled environment?
Sincerely,
Francis McCollum Feeley

“High-Tech Capitalism and Neo-Feudalism”
https://www.counterpunch.org/2025/02/13/high-tech-capitalism-and-neo-feudalism/
by Michel Valentin
Trumpism is the new, populist, post-postmodern form of a “non-ideological ideology” redefining the relations between the State and Capitalism.
A new iteration of an oligarchy who, after shifting their political allegiance from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party, formed themselves around President Trump and his hubs of power in Mar-a-Lago, Trump Tower, and the Oval Office, in addition to the Web, as Zuckerberg and Musk as the two-popes of the digital age, where Donald Trump reigns as the “Great Twitter Communicator.”
If there were 12 of them, with a pure heart, and a pure mind bent on self-sacrificing, and Christian compassion, they could be compared to Camelot’s Knights of the Round Table, made famous by the 12th century Arthur-Lancelot-Graal cycle of the French-Breton Romance. But since they are filthy rich and self-centered, materialist and opportunist, with a tainted heart and mind, they function more like an ideological Pretorian guard supporting and defending the new Presidential Monarch.
This oligarchy/plutocracy constitutes 0.1% of the American population. It owns 14% of the nation’s wealth, $22 trillion in stocks, bonds and real estate, while 50% of Americans own 2.4% of the national wealth ($4 trillion). These ultra rich individuals contributed to the super PACs in favor of Trump’s candidacy. Elon Musk spent more than $200 million of his personal wealth on Donald Trump’s campaign; OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Jeff Bezos, (Amazon) and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook and Meta) each gave $1 million to the Inauguration Fund of President Trump.
The Super PACs form an unholy alliance between Big Money and Big Politics. In more ways than one, it can be said that MAGA was funded by GAFA—the European acronym to loop together the American multinationals shaping global consumerism (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple). A majority of the American electorate was persuaded that what is good for the ultra-rich entrepreneurs of these multinationals is good for them.[1]
This new configuration took the institution of the State by surprise. It comes as close as possible to a political coup, bypassing the law in many instances. This unconstitutional power grab by the tandem Trump-Musk, took most by surprise, barreling along, as it is, like a runaway train with loose cannons on board. It unwittingly and thoughtlessly imposes what it considers to be the cure to a “rotten,” “lunatic,” “Marxist,” “leftist” state of things existing within many departments of the Federal Government. The Federal agencies Donald Trump accused of harboring (without proof) rampant “abuse, waste, fraud” are gutted or suppressed.
Diktats (250 Presidential decrees the first two weeks), the creation of DOGE (Department of Governmental Efficiency), the orders of an unelected, “unofficially official” oligarch (Elon Musk), were used or created ad hoc to clean and wipe-out those agencies deemed by the new political and ideological “system” to draining the Government Treasury, and/or propagating “Anti-American values.” By the same token, Trump holds in suspicion all the intellectuals and academics, lawyers and journalists, artists and Hollywood stars who profess or advertise in public liberal, democratic, or socialist ideas. He believes that, at best, their ideas of control and regulation of capitalism hold the country back, impoverishing the middle- and working-classes; at worst, they are the “inside enemy,” a 5th column helping the “outside enemy” by subverting the unity of the country, and demoralizing America by propagating anti-American values.
Elon Musk and his bevy of cost-cutters were given carte blanche, firing US federal employees, forcing them to retire, resign, or accept a buyout. Musk and his henchmen (are there any women?) work beyond governmental legality. On the one hand, what they are doing to Washington is an overhaul of the Federal Government by planning to replace many career-civil servants at mid- and top-level with new loyal employees, partisan sycophants, and political buddies, or making the old ones take an oath of obedience. On the other hand, they want to put the Government out of business, by “un-governing,” by making the big machinery of the Federal State obsolete.
The best way to get rid of a dog is to scream that it is rabid. One does not have to prove it.
Since mid-January 2025, the American people have beenexperiencing a mild foretaste of what the Russian people experienced when they were hit by the Easterly, socio-economic Shock-Therapy inflicted by the Chicago School of Economy’s Boys just after the collapse of the U.S.S.R. in 1991. If one thinks that this vengeful, punitive, cruel, and ultimately idiotic socio-economic “Shock and Awe” treatment of the ex- Soviet Union did not have any bearing on what happened in Russia afterwards, one is clueless. Putin’s imperialist revenge is the by-product of this historic, American-made humiliation and destruction of the economy of what was, for better or worse, a country—something the Chinese government was able to avoid.
So, these politicians for a new socio-economic policy and these megalomaniac plutocrats have to convince the American people that this huge Washingtonian apparatus is worthless, corrupt, and sinful, that the taxpayers’ money spent to run it would be better spent somewhere else. In this battle for the minds of the American electorate, all tricks are justified, even the senseless is forced to make sense. The politics of the sledgehammer is used to squash flies. These “grand liquidators” feel empowered and self-justified by decades of Republican anti-Federalist rhetoric. As Donald Trump constantly repeats, they are only doing what the American voters-taxpayers elected them to do. They are just accomplishing their mandate. The only thing they won’t touch, reform, or diminish is the military, for obvious reasons.
Their principal goal is to free as much Capital as possible from the State Ideological Apparatuses (Althusser), by suppressing and privatizing as much as possible the Government’s functions and services—even if this means destroying what the Government used to positively stand for in the minds of a large majority of the people. They want to maximize the availability of Capital for Big Tech, Big Business ventures and tax breaks for corporations and wealthy entrepreneurs, since the Reaganian trickle-down theory stands paramount in the ideology of these self-declared “benefactors” of humanity. The future development of AI, cybernetics, and space travel will necessitate huge investments, although the Chinese DeepSeek didn’t cost that much. It developed a world-class model of AI app for $5 million. If those oligarchs could, they would totally privatize Health Care and even Social Security. . . . .

“Yanis Varoufakis: They printed €6 trillion and gave it to the bankers”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl51pL6c40A&si=8p0iLr7_pdXmNpti
by Transnatiional Institute
(2:52)
On February 1, 2025, Yanis Varoufakis spoke at an event organised by @DiEM25official in Amsterdam with Jeremy Corbyn, TNI's Bríd Brennan, and Diem25's Lucille Cornelius. Yanis Varoufakis critiques Europe's economic and political decline, blaming austerity policies that benefit the wealthy while leaving the majority behind. He highlights the 6 trillion euros printed for bankers, which were not invested in the economy but used to buy back stocks, leading to stagnation in Europe. This lack of investment, particularly in emerging technologies like AI and green technologies, has caused Europe to fall behind other regions, resulting in a decade and a half of economic stagnation. Varoufakis argues that this stagnation fuels political fragmentation, rising far-right movements, and a lack of European unity in confronting global issues such as the war in Ukraine and the genocide in Gaza.

(19:47)
As the annual high-level Munich Security Conference gets underway, the Russia-Ukraine war is dominating the agenda, and we speak to two guests protesting the conference. Economist, progressive leader and former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis says the European project started with a noble goal of promoting peace but finds itself today "cornered" between Russian and NATO militarism. "Europe has been caught in a frenzy of warmongering," says Varoufakis. We also speak with German lawyer Melanie Schweizer, who was suspended from her job at the German Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs after being doxxed in an article published in the German tabloid _Bild_, owned by media giant Axel Springer SE, for her pro-Palestinian online statements. She is running for German parliament with the progressive party MERA25 in this month's elections and warns the country's political establishment is increasingly adopting the rhetoric and policies of the far right. "We see fascism playing out in real time, and it's getting worse by the day," says Schweizer.

(6:13)
At the height of World War II, Henry Morgenthau, treasury secretary under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, proposed a plan to deliberately deindustrialization, depopulate, and disarm postwar Germany. The Morgenthau Plan, as it was known, would transition Germany back to an agrarian society, making the prospect of future war unimaginable.
Although Morgenthau’s ideas would never see the light of day, now, more than 80 years later, Europe’s powerhouse is poised to embrace this grim reality.
“Germany represents the powerhouse, traditionally, of the European economy, and even culture, and it’s starting to implode,” warns Victor Davis Hanson in this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.”
“They only have about 125 attack aircraft. They have very few armored vehicles. Their active military is only about 180,000 soldiers. They have 84 million people in the country. The fertility rate is getting very close to 1.4. …
“They have had a million to 2 million illegal aliens just prance into Germany, especially during the last years of the Merkel chancellorship. In terms of percentage of foreign-born, Germany has more foreign-born than does the United States, which doesn't have a border in the south, at least until Donald Trump comes in.”

In that time, according to Palestinian health ministry officials, at least 118 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by direct Israeli fire, died due to prior injuries or from the thousands of tons of unexploded Israeli ordnance that litters the territory. In recent days, the truce has looked shaky, with inflammatory threats from Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli leader. Meanwhile the American president continues to escalate his rhetoric about forcing Gaza’s population into permanent exile and turning the territory into a US-owned “riviera” for the rich. What set the off the latest threats from Washington and Tel Aviv was Hamas’ announcement that it would not proceed with the next prisoner exchange scheduled for Saturday until Israel starts abiding by its side of the deal. In violation of the ceasefire agreement, Israel has been refusing to allow sufficient amounts of aid into Gaza, where there is a desperate shortage tents and prefabricated shelters for hundreds of thousands of people exposed to harsh winter weather. As of this writing, the crisis appears to be on its way to a resolution, with Egyptian officials reporting that Israel is set to approve the entry of more aid, as required under the agreement. Meanwhile, the official death toll from the genocide – widely considered to be an undercount – has risen to more than 62,000, as people across Gaza return to their shattered communities and search for the remains of loved ones whose fate had been unknown. One person who has been traveling across Gaza in recent weeks is Electronic Intifada contributor Abubaker Abed. He joins us today to show us some of the video he’s filmed from around Gaza and talk about what he’s seeing. This is a segment from The Electronic Intifada's livestream on day 26 of the Gaza ceasefire. “Vaccine Juggernaut”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_ylPYTwXSA&si=a4pHaeNkj_lo9TBr
with Dr John Campbell
(14:38)
I’m Ros Jones, a retired consultant paediatrician, and I am here on behalf of more than 200 experienced health professionals and academics. We’ve sent numerous letters to the regulators and politicians about the folly of covid vaccines for children. We, like others here, were asked for a detailed witness statement which we provided, even agreeing to it being shared with one of their ‘experts’ . When we were told we wouldn’t be called, we were nevertheless thanked and told our statements had been very useful to the Inquiry team in their deliberations. However, nothing we provided was used at all. We were simply ascribed to the ‘misinformation brigade’. Apropos of which, our first fully referenced letter with all our names was sent by Chris Whitty’s department to the Counter Disinformation Unit, who previously monitored online child pornography & terrorism!
So following on from Dr Evans, firstly the ethics – it was very clear that whatever bug was doing the rounds in spring 2020, it did not affect children to any significant degree, yet the government measures caused disproportionate harm. It wasn’t just the school closures, it was the testing and masking and the don’t kill your granny messaging. And parents saw first hand the harms of lockdowns. So when the vaccines were presented as the only route back to normal, parents were not immune from the messaging.
The risk : benefit balance is widely variable by age so a one-size fits all was never right. Matt Hancock was absolutely clear this was an adult vaccine, Kate Bingham went further to say for more than 50 s with comorbidities. Professor Lim in his evidence confirmed that the phase 1 rollout was expected to cover 99% of the mortality from Covid-19. Yet none questioned why the vaccine juggernaut seemed to be unstoppable.
So that brings me to the approval process. MHRA authorized the use of Pfizer for 12- 15s on the basis of 1131 vaccinated children followed for 2 months. You don’t need to be a medic to know that is not a measure of safety. Yet Kate Bingham said the studies were large!! MHRA only checked data provided by Pfizer. They then passed the baton to the JCVI. The Moral and Ethical Advisory Group (MEAG), a multifaith and ethics group set up in 2019, asked specifically to be involved in discussions re children’s
vaccine but their planned meeting in June was cancelled as they were told there were plans to vaccinate kids. In fairness, JCVI meeting minutes show they were worried - they were looking at myocarditis reports from Israel and the US. And they said NO, not for healthy under 18s. But 48 hours later they held an emergency meeting at the request of the CMO to ‘reconsider their decision’. Why was Chris Whitty not questioned about this? Or about the CMOs decision that this would help keep children in school and hence good for mental health! He admitted their calculations (it worked out at 15mins / child) allowed no time out of class for the vaccination procedure, let alone for any adverse effects.
Turning to myocarditis, this has been acknowledged & added to the PIL but their so called expert misquoted the Oxford study, saying it showed more myocarditis with covid than with the vaccine (as stated in the conclusion sentence of their abstract) but even the results section of the abstract actually reported that for males under 40, myocarditis was 6x more likely after vaccination than after infection. Again the MHRA were never pinned down as to why they didn’t give more detail of rates by age to enable informed consent.
Everyone just kept repeating ‘VERY rare’ and ‘recovers quickly’. How rare depends on how hard you look. Israel, where the first cases were reported, sent letters to all their paediatricians, cardiologists & Emergency physicians, telling them what to look out for and this resulted in ~ 1 in 6000, so not ‘very rare’ , Mr Keith, that is ‘rare’. But Thailand did what the MHRA should have demanded of Pfizer: they organised a prospective study in two large secondary schools with cardiac blood tests and ECG before and 1/52
after vaccination and they found a worrying 1 in 29 with either clinical or subclinical myo- or pericarditis. That is ‘COMMON’ As for ‘recovers quickly’, teenagers admitted to US hospitals with chest pain seemed to recover quickly but 89% had abnormal cMRIs. JCVI wanted to see their follow up data before making a decision. If they had been allowed to delay, they would have learned that 60% were still abnormal 6/12 later. These are abnormalities which have been

Dr Engler described how the structure of the Inquiry and the questioning of Core Participants was conducted to give a carefully curated story about the Covid vaccines, minimising criticism of the products or rollout and affirming its resounding success. Through the use of closed questions and the refusal to allow them to present science supporting their concerns (as they were not deemed ‘expert witnesses’’), Dr Engler commented that “despite their valiant efforts, the few dissenting voices who were allowed to speak had their testimony constrained by both the questions asked and the answers they were permitted to give.”

“Excess Deaths in Young Adults”

(16:33)
Mortality Trends Among Early Adults in the United States, 1999-2023
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama...
US population groups, ages 25-44 years, 1999 – 2023
All cause mortality
Other natural causes of death
Transport
Alcohol related
Homicide
Endocrine,
nutrition,
metabolic
Digestive
Circulatory
Cancers
Mutually exclusive underlying cause-of-death categories were adapted from prior work
Used baseline of 1999 to 2010, to project expected mortality trends for 2011 to 2023.
We analyzed 3, 392, 364 deaths among the full US population aged 25-44 years from 1999 to 2023.
In 2021, all-cause excess mortality was nearly 3 times what it had been in 2019 (116.2 vs 41.7 deaths per 100 000 population).
In 2023, excess mortality decreased to79.1 deaths per 100 000 population.
Early adult mortality was 70.0% higher in 2023 than it would have been had pre-2011 trends continued, reflecting 71, 124 excess deaths.
Although mortality rates decreased after the core pandemic years, excess mortality remained higher than expected based on prepandemic levels. Increases in early adult mortality can signal population risks that may become more pronounced as these cohorts age.
These results suggest the possibility of a worsening mortality crisis unless these trends are reversed.
The 2 distinct phases of increasing mortality (before and after 2020) may also suggest the need to attend to ongoing consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, causes of death related to long-term consequences of infection, medical disruption, and social dislocation—and to deleterious health trends that predated it.

Patients and even grand jurors were outraged at the prosecutors going after Burzynski. Readers have asked me to assess the efficacy of his anti-neoplaston therapy using the Kory Scale. Lets do it.
Before I begin, please know there is a self-narrated audio podcast version of this post here. A free preview is available to all but to listen to the full audio podcast version, upgrading to a paid subscription is required.
In a recent post, I tried to introduce a conceptual tool which I (as humorously and self-deprecatingly as possible) named after myself. In brief, “The Kory Scale” (TKS) is based on the hypothesis that the more a new or existing medical therapy is attacked in a coordinated, sustained fashion by the medical establishment and media, the more likely the treatment is both highly effective and safe.
This hypothesis is based on the simple fact that the more effective and safe (and cheap and widely available) a therapy is, the more it threatens the massive markets of the bio-pharmaceutical industrial complex. And that industry “don’t play” when their profits are threatened.
The gangsterish “don’t play” phrase is appropriate because pharmaceutical companies behave very similarly to organized crime syndicates as described by Dr. Peter Goetsche in his book Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime: How Big Pharma Has Corrupted Healthcare as well as the Pfizer executive whistleblower Peter Rast in his book, “The Whistleblower: Confessions of a Healthcare Hitman.”
Those books strongly establish that pharmaceutical companies follow the same patterns that are observed in criminal enterprises (e.g., pushing addictive and harmful drugs on the populace, manipulating their own research trials, routinely buying off government officials, covering up harms, overstating efficacy etc.).
A defining characteristic of criminal organizations is that they are bound by “omerta:” . . . .

“Israel Killed Her Own People”
https://www.globalresearch.ca/israel-killed-her-own-people/5879917
by Peter Koenig
Israel’s former defense minister, Yoav Gallant, admitted that Israeli troops were ordered to invoke the “Hannibal Directive” on 7 October 2023, leading to significant Israeli casualties. With “hundreds” reportedly killed by Israeli forces. His admission raises questions about the justification of the subsequent Gaza offensive.
The Hannibal Directive, also translated as Hannibal Procedure or Hannibal Protocol, is the name of a controversial procedure used by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to prevent the capture of Israeli soldiers by enemy forces. It means that a dead Israeli is worth more than a captured Israeli.
The fallout from 7 October 2023 is now further complicated by these revelations that a significant number of Israeli deaths were caused by Israeli forces themselves.
While 1,139 individuals [official Israeli statements to this day refer to 1,200] in Israel were killed during the 7 October 2023 Hamas raid on Israel, it is now clear that many hundreds of these Israeli deaths were caused by Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF) themselves, not by Hamas.
Investigations by independent journalists and international bodies suggest that at least ‘hundreds’ of the Israeli deaths were the result of the Hannibal Directive, nullifying the justification for the Israeli Gaza offensive. See this and this.
This Hamas attack was well-planned years ahead by Israel’s Mossad in combination with the secret services of the UK, MI6, and the US, CIA. Remember, Hamas itself is an original creation by the secret services of Israel, UK, and US. Therefore, Israel was not only aware of the attack to occur on 7 October 2023, they triggered it and knew the time when it was to occur. According to Israeli border guards, they were ordered to abandon their duties for about seven hours, beginning in the early morning of 7 October.
With this admission of Yoav Gallant, it is clear the Hamas attack was what you might call a “False Flag”, planted by Israel, giving them a pretext to start the genocidal ethnic cleansing in Gaza for the reasons that we now have confirmed by President Trump’s statement that the US would take over Gaza, rebuild it into a resort strip and that the remaining Gazan citizens – some 1.6 to 1.8 million should be resettled in Egypt, Jordan and Europe for a “better life” – free of the risk of being killed in a war. Trump’s words.
This latter part of Trump’s statement more than insinuated that if they refused to leave Gaza, the war, the atrocious mass killing, would continue.
What Trump did not say is that the US takeover would effectively give the US (possibly shared with Israel) access to the probably trillions of dollars-worth of gas reserves offshore of Gaza.
The overall goal is achieving Greater Israel in the shortest time possible. See also this. . . . .

European nations must provide the "overwhelming" share of funding for Ukraine, the new US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said, as he signalled a drastic shift in Washington's position on the war. Speaking at a defence summit in Brussels, Hegseth said the US would no longer "tolerate an imbalanced relationship" with its allies and called on NATO members to spend much more on defense. He also said it was "unrealistic" to expect Ukraine to return to its pre-2014 borders and downplayed the prospect of Ukraine joining Nato. The comments came as Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held a "lengthy" phone call in which they agreed to begin negotiations to end the war.

“Like Penicillin, ‘Miraculous’ DMSO Could Change the Lives of Afflicted Millions”

With RFK Jr's confirmation and his pledge to get the FDA to remove restrictions on the study of alternative and repurposed therapies, my first two choices are DMSO and chlorine dioxide! Here my Op-Ed writing partner Mary Beth Pfeiffer does a deep dive on the history of and resurrection of interest in DMSO.. Times they are a changin' and I believe we have better treatments and better health to look forward to as a society. I personally believe the massive human cost of strokes in our elderly (and now young people) and their families would be massively reduced if DMSO became standard of care.

“This is Not a Test”
by CJ Hopkins
Do not adjust your telescreen.
This is not a test. It’s a state of emergency! A full-blown national state of emergency!
Yes, that’s right, once again, we need to dispense with the rule of law and take a series of emergency measures in order to save “democracy,” or “freedom,” or “to remedy the distress of the people and the nation,” or “protect the people from a respiratory virus,” or a “woke mind virus,” or “deep state agents,” or “the terrorists,” or “bureaucrats,” or “insubordinate judges,” and “Make America Great Again!”
Fortunately, God has personally appointed Elon Musk, the multi-billionaire, Military-Industrial Complex embedded, transhumanist, global-capitalist oligarch, to serve as a Superhero-like savior, and rescue the American people from Evil! Or, OK, technically God personally appointed Trump, but Trump personally appointed Elon, which God knew he would do, being omniscient, and omnipotent, and so on. So, basically, Elon has carte blanche from God to take whatever emergency measures to save America he deems appropriate, and anyone who stands in his way is “corrupt,” and “evil,” and an “enemy of the state,” who deserves to be arrested and prosecuted, and imprisoned, or at the very least harrassed and intimidated.
For example, Paula Kerger, CEO of PBS, who is being hauled in front of Elon’s DOGE Subcommittee to explain why PBS failed to conform to official “reality” as determined by Elon, and the ADL, and the MAGA Ministry of Truth. . . . .
Suppressive Persons like Paula Kerger and the staff of the Public Broadcasting System cannot be allowed to interpret events however they interpret them. We’re in a state of emergency! Screw all that freedom of speech and the press stuff! How can Elon rescue America if people are free to contradict what he says?! After all, the American people elected Musk and Trump so that they could dictate what is “true,” and punish anyone who disagrees with them!
OK, sure, some of what they say isn’t true, or not exactly true, or is shameless lies, but sometimes you have to lie to people to save them from evil, because … well, people are stupid, so you have to bombard them with official propaganda and lies and whip them up into frenzies of fanatical hatred of your official enemies.
For example, the “fifty-million-dollar USAID terrorist condom bomb” story …

Donald Trump has indicated that Elon Musk’s “department of government efficiency” (DOGE) will soon direct its attention on the Pentagon. Speaking at a White House press conference alongside Shigeru Ishiba, the prime minister of Japan, Trump confirmed that he had asked Musk – the world’s richest man – to review spending in the sprawling defense department, which has a proposed budget for 2025 of $850 billion.
“I’ve instructed him to go check out education, to check out the Pentagon, which is the military,” Trump said. “And you know, sadly, you’ll find some things that are pretty bad.”
