Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,
We have seen from the book excerpts presented in the past few CEIMSA bulletins how our predecessors inhabiting medieval Europe, following the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 A.D, set out on the slippery path of social devolution and evolution. Historians have attributed in various proportions the historic developments in “the three heirs” --Byzantine, Islamic, and Early-Medieval European societies-- chiefly, to the legacies of The Bible, ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, early Christainity, and Germanic tribal traditions.
By focusing on general developments, then shifting our attention to specific events, and returning to the general overview, the books we are presenting attempt to clarify our western heritage and the ideological influences asserted by past institutions over their populations in order to control behaviors and thoughts, keeping them in conformity with the ruling-class interests of powerful and protected classes, all within the perenial context of extreme social inequality. This class domination –whether conscious or not- explains the peculiar, self-defeating behavior that has periodically erupted in fratricidal warfare, in which the dominated classes join willfully in killing one another in large numbers for the benefit of their rulers, whose largesse is limited to occasionally distributing the scraps of their booty from these merderous wars to bewildered survivors. Such is the sad history of “misplaced concreteness” –an extreme form of “Realism,” manufactured by cynical elites over the centuries under the political stricture of ruling-class interests. Once populations are manouvered into harm’s way, the mechanism is set to go on indefinitely, provided the necessary propaganda is astute. [WW I and the current Ukraine and Gaza slaughters are vivid examples of this successful political manipulation in the past one-hundred years; but they are by no means the first instances of this tried-and-proven historic technique used for the private accumulation of capital.]
Western Europeans in the early Middle Ages (the period between about 600 and 1050) were so backward in comparison to their Byzantine and Islamic neighbors that a tenth-century Arabic geographer could write of them that ‘they have large bodies, gross natures, harsh manners, and dull intellects . . . . those who live farthest north are particularly stupid, gross, and brutish.’ Material conditions throughout this period were so primitive that one can almost speak of five centuries of camping-out. Yet new and promising patterns were definitely taking shape. Above all, a new center of civilization was emerging in the North Atlantic regions. Around 800 the Frankish monarchy, based in agriculturally rich northwestern Europe, managed to create a western European empire in alliance with the Western Christian Church. Although this empire did not last long, it still managed to hew out a new Western cultural unity that was to be an important building block for the future.
Once the Eastern Romans under Justinian had destroyed the Ostrogothic and Vandal kingdoms in Italy and Africa, and the Arabs had eliminated the Visigothic kingdom in Spain, the Frankish rulers in Gaul remained as the major surviving barbarian power in western Europe. But it took about two centuries before they began to exercise their full hegemony. The founder of the Frankish state was the brutal and wily chieftain Clovis, who conquered most of modern-day France and Belgium around 500 and cleverly converted to Western Catholic Christianity, the religion of the local bishops and indigenous population. Clovis founded the Merovingian dynasty (so called from Merovech, the founder of the family to which he belonged). He did not, however, pass on a united realm but followed the typical barbarian custom of dividing up his kingdom among his sons. More of less without interruption for the next two hundred sons fought sons for a larger share of the Merovingian inheritance. Toward the end of that period the line also began to degenerate, the numerous so-called do-nothing kings left their government and fighting to their chief ministers, known as ‘mayors of the palace;’ Throughout this era, one of the darkest in the recorded history of Europe, trade contracted, towns declined, literacy was almost forgotten, and violence was endemic. Minimal agricultural self-sufficiency coexisted with the rule of the battle-axe.
Largely unnoticed, however, some hope for the future was coalescing around the institutions of the Roman papacy and Benedictine monasticism. The architect of a new western European religious policy that was based on an alliance between these two institutions was Pope Gregory I (reigned 590-604), known as St. Gregory the Great. Until his time the Roman popes were generally subordinate to the emperors of Constantinople and to the greater religious prestige of the Christian East, but Gregory sought to counteract this situation by creating a more autonomous Western-orientated Latin Church. This he tried to do in many ways. As a theologian –the fourth great ‘Latin father’ of the Church—he built upon the work of his three predecessors, Jerome, Ambrose, and especially Augustine, in articulating a theology that had its own distinct characteristics. Among these were emphasis on the idea of penance and the concept of purgatory as a place for purification before admission into heaven. (Western belief in purgatory was thereafter to become one of the major differences in the dogmas of the Eastern and Western Churches.) In addition to his theological work, Gregory pioneered in the writing of a simplified unadorned Latin prose that corresponded to the actual spoken language of his contemporaries, and presided over the creation of a powerful Latin liturgy. If Gregory did not actually invent the ‘Gregorian chant;’ it was under his impetus that his new plainsong –forever after a central part of the Roman Catholic ritual—developed. All of these innovations helped to make the Christian West religiously and culturally more independent of the Greek-speaking East than it had ever been before.
Gregory the Great was as much a statesman as he was a theologian and shaper of Latin. Within Italy he assured the physical survival of the papacy in the face of the barbarian Lombard threat of his day by clever diplomacy and expert management of papal landed estates. He also began to reemphasize earlier claims of papal primacy, especially over Western bishops, that were in danger of being forgotten. Above all, he patronized the order of Benedictine monks and used them to help evangelize new Western territories. Gregory himself had been Benedictine –perhaps the first Benedictine monk to become pope—and he wrote the standard life of St. Benedict. Because the Benedictine order was still very young and the times were turbulent, Gregory’s patronage helped the order to survive and later to become for centuries the only monastic order in the West. In return the pope could profit from, using the Benedictines to carry out special projects. The most significant of these was the conversion of Anglo-Saxon England to Christianity. This was a long-term project which took about a century to complete, but it great result was that it left a Christian outpost to the far northwest that was thoroughly loyal to the papacy and that would soon help to bring together the papacy and the Frankish state . Gregory the Great himself did not live to see that union, but it was his policy of invigorating the Western Church that most helped to bring it about.
Around 700, when the Benedictines were completing their conversions in England, the outlook for Frankish Gaul was becoming somewhat brighter. The most profound reason for this was that the long, troubled period of transition between the ancient and medieval worlds was finally coming to an end. The ancient Roman civilization of cities and Mediterranean trade was in its last gasps in Gaul in the time after Clovis. Then, when the Arabs conquered the southern Mediterranean shore and took to the sea in the seventh century, northwestern Europe was finally thrown back upon itself and forced to look away from the Mediterranean. In fact, the lands of the north --modern-day northern France, the Low Countries, Germany, and England-- were extremely fertile: with adequate farming implements they could yield great natural wealth. Given the proper circumstances, a new power could emerge in the north to make the most of a new pattern of life based predominantly on agrarianism instead of urban commerce and Mediterranean trade. Around 700 that is exactly what happened in Merovingian Gaul.
The proper circumstances were the triumph of a succession of able rules and their alliance with the Church. In 687 an energetic Merovingian mayor of the palace, Pepin of Heristal, managed to unite all the Frankish lands under his rule and build a new power base for his own family in the region of Belgium and the Rhine. He was succeeded by his aggressive son, Charles Martel (‘the Hammer’), who is sometimes considered a second founder of the Frankish state. Charles’s claim to this title is twofold. First, in 732 he turned back a Muslim force from Spain at the Battle orf Tours, some 150 miles from Paris. Although the Muslim contingent was not a real army but merely a marauding band, the incursion was the high-water mark of their progress toward the northwest and Charles’s victory won him great prestige. Equally important, around the end of his reign Charles began to develop an alliance with the Church, particularly with the Benedictines of England. Having finished most of their conversion work on their island, the Benedictines, under their idealistic leader St. Boniface, were moving across the English Channel in an attempt to convert central Germany. Charles Martel realized that he and they had common interests, for after he had guarded his southern flank against the Muslims he was seeking to direct Frankish expansion eastward in the direction of Germany. Missionary work and Frankish expansion could go hand in hand, so Charles offered St. Boniface and his Benedictines material aid in return for their support of his territorial aims.
Once allied with the Franks, St. Boniface provided further service in the next reign in helping to contribute ot one of the most momentous events in Western history. Charles Martel had never assumed the royal title, but his son, Pepin the Short, wished to take it. Even though Pepin and not the reigning ‘do-nothing king’ was the real power, Pepin needed the prestige of the Church for supporting a change in dynasties. Fortunately for him the times were highly propitious for obtaining Church support. St. Boniface supported Pepin because the young ruler continued his father’s policy of collaborating with the Benedictines in Germany. And Boniface had great influence in Rome because the Anglo-Saxon Benedictines had remained in the closest touch with the papacy since the time of Gregory the Great.
The papacy was now fully prepared to cast its own lots with a strong Frankish ruler because it was in the midst of a bitter fight with the Byzantine emperors over Iconoclasm. The Byzantines until then had offered papal territories in Italy some protection against the Lombards, but the increasingly powerful Franks were now fully able to take over that role. The papacy accordingly made an epochal about-face, turning once and for all to the West. In 750 the pope encouraged Pepin to depose the Merovingian figurehead, and in 751 St. Boniface, acting as papal emissary, anointed Pepin as a divinely sanctioned king. Thus the Frankish monarchy attained a spiritual mandate and was fully integrated into the papal-Benedictine orbit. Shortly afterward Pepin paid his debt to the pope by conquering the Lombards in Italy. The West was now achieving its own unity based on the Frankish state and the Latin Church, not coincidently just at the time when the Abbasid caliphate was being founded in the East [based in modern day Iraq] and the Byzantines were going their own fully Greek way.
The ultimate consolidation of the new pattern took place in the reign of Pepin’s son, Carolus Magnus or Charlemagne (768-814), from whom the new dynasty takes its name of ‘Carolingian.’ Without question Charlemagne ranks as one of the most important rulers of the whole medieval period. Had it been possible to ask him what his greatest accomplishment was, he almost certainly would have replied that it lay in greatly increasing the Frankish realm. Except for the English, there was scarcely a people of western Europe against whom he did not fight. Most of his campaigns were successful; he annexed the greater part of central Europe and northern and central Italy to the Frankish domain. To rule this vast area he bestowed all the powers of local government upon his own appointees, called counts, and tried to remain in control of them by sending representatives of the court to observe them. Among the counts’ many duties were the administration of justice and the raising of armies. Although Charlemagne’s system in practice was far from perfect, it led to the best government that Europe had seen since the Romans. Because of the military triumphs and internal peace of his reign, Charlemagne was long remembered and revered as a western European folk hero.
Primarily to aid his territorial expansion and help administer his realm Charlemagne presided over a revival of learning known as the ‘Carolingian Renaissance.’ Charlemagne extended his rule into Germany in the name of Christianity, but in order to proselytize he needed educated monks and priests. More than that, in order to administer his far-flung territories he needed at least a few good people who could read and write. Amazingly as it may seem to us, at first hardly any people in his entire realm were literate, so thoroughly had the rudiments of leaning been forgotten since the decay of Roman city life. Only in Anglo-Saxon England had literacy been cultivated by the Benedictine monks. The reason for this was that the Anglo-Saxons spoke a form of German but the monks needed to learn Latin in order to say their offices and study the Bible. Since they knew no Latin to begin with they had to go about leaning it by a very self-conscious program of studies. The greatest Anglo-Saxon Benedictine scholar before Charlemagne’s time was the Venerable Bede (d.735), whose History of the English Church and People, written in Latin, was one of the best historical writings of the early-medieval period and can still be read with pleasure. When Charlemagne came to the throne he invited the Anglo-Saxon Benedictine Alcuin –a student of one of Bede’s students—to direct a revival of studies on the continent. With Charlemagne’s active support Alcuin helped establish new schools to teach reading, directed the copying and correcting of important Latin works, including many Roman classics, and inspired the formulation of a new clear handwriting that is the ancestor of our modern ‘Roman’ print. These were the greatest achievements of the Carolingian Renaissance, which stressed practicality rather than original literary or intellectual endeavors. Thoroughly unpretentious as they were, they established a bridgehead for literacy on the continent which thereafter would never be completely lost. They also helped to preserve Latin literature, and they made the Latin language the language of state and diplomacy for all of western Europe, as it remained until comparatively recent times.
The climax of Charlemagne’s career came in the year 800 when he was crowned emperor on Charismas Day in Rome by the pope. Historians continue to debate whether this was Charlemagne’s or the pope’s idea, but there is no doubt that the pope did not gain from it. Once the Franks ruled Italy they came to dominate the papacy, and indeed the whole Church, to such a degree that by 800 the pope was very close to being Charlemagne’s puppet. Charlemagne did not gain any actual new power by taking the imperial title either, but the significance of the event is nonetheless great. Up until 800 the only emperor ruled in Constantinople and could lay claim to being the direct heir of Augustine. Although the Byzantines had lost most
of their interest in the West, they still continued to regard it vaguely as an outpost province and were actively opposed to any westerner calling himself emperor. Charlemagne’s assumption of the title was virtually a declaration of Western self-confidence and independence. Since Charlemagne’s vast realm was fully as large as that of the Byzantines, had great reserves of agricultural wealth, and was defining its own culture based on Western Christianity and the Latin linguistic tradition, the claim of empire was largely justified. More than that, it was never forgotten. Both for its symbolism and for its contribution toward giving westerners a sense of unity and purpose it was a major landmark on the road to the making of a great western Europe.
Although the claim to empire was bold and memorable, Charlemagne’s actual empire disintegrated quickly after his death for many reasons. The simplest was that hardly any of his successors were as competent and decisive as he was. In order to rule an empire in those still extremely primitive times, one had to have enormous reserves of strength and energy –one had to travel on horseback over enormous distances, fight and win battles at the head of unruly armies and know how to delegate power to others yet guard against its abuse. Unfortunately for western Europe few of Charlemagne’s heirs had such combinations of energy and talent. To make matters worse, Charlemagne’s grandsons and great-grandsons started fighting each other: from the north came the Scandinavian Vikings; from the east came the Asiatic Magyars (or Hungarians); from the south came new attacks by marauding Muslims, attacking now from the sea. Under these pressures the Carolingian Empire completely fell apart and a new political map of Europe was drawn in the tenth century.
As the Carolingian period was crucial for making the beginning of a common North Atlantic western European civilization, so the tenth century’ was crucial for marking the beginnings of the major modern European political entities. England, which never had been part of Charlemagne’s empire, and which hitherto had been divided among smaller warring Anglo-Saxon states, became unified in the late ninth and the tenth century owing to the work of King Alfred the Great (871-899) and his direct successors. Alfred and his heir’s reorganized the army, infused new vigor into local government, and codified the English law. In addition, Alfred founded schools and fostered an interest in Anglo-Saxon writing and other elements of a national culture.
Across the Channel, France (now the name for the main part of Roman Gaul because it was the original seat of the Frankish monarchy) was devastated by the invasions of Vikings, who had sailed up the French rivers. For that reason France broke up into small principalities rather than developing a strong national monarchy on the pattern of England. Nonetheless there was a king in France, who however weak, was recognized as the ruler of the western part of Charlemagne’s former territories. Directly to the east, the kings of Germany were the strongest continental monarchs of the tenth century, ruling over an essentially united realm. In addition to Germany, their lands encompassed most of the Low Counties and a good part of modern eastern France.
The most important German ruler of the period was Otto the great. He became king in 936, resoundingly defeated the Hungarians in 955 –thereby relieving Germany of its greatest foreign threat—and took the title of emperor in Rome in 962. By this last act Otto strengthened his claim to being the greatest continental monarch since Charlemagne. Otto and his successors, who continued to call themselves emperors, tried to rule over Italy but barely succeeded in doing so. Instead, Italy in the tenth century saw the greatest western European development of urban life, a pattern on which the Italians would subsequently build.
Although Italy did develop some city life in the tenth century, this was by no means typical of the early-medieval period in western Europe as a whole. Quite to the contrary, from the eighth to the eleventh century the European economy was based almost entirely on agriculture and very limited local trade. Roads deteriorated and barter widely replaced the use of money. Whatever cities survived from Roman days were usually empty shells that served at most as administrative centers for bishops and fortified places in case of common danger. The main economic unit throughout the period was self-supporting large landed estates, usually owned by kings, warrior aristocrats, or large-scale monasteries. Although the northern European soil was rich, farming tools in most places were still too primitive to bring in a fully adequate return on the enormous investments of effort expended by the laboring masses. Agriculture yields in all but the most fertile Carolingian heartlands (and often even in them) were pitifully low, and Europeans, except the rulers and the higher clergy, lived on the edge of subsistence. It is true that some increase in agricultural income had underpinned the Carolingian successes and some progress in farming might have continued had the peace of Charlemagne’s reign endured. But the subsequent invasions of the ninth and tenth centuries set agricultural life back and new beginnings would have to be made in the years thereafter.
Given the low level of early-medieval economic life, it is not surprising that the age was not prosperous time for leaning or the arts: with scarcely enough wealth to keep most people alive, there is not going to be much to support schools or major artistic projects. Throughout the period, even in the best of yeas, leaning was a privilege for the few: the masses received no formal education, and even most members of the secular aristocracy were illiterate. Learning also consisted mostly of memorization, without regard for criticism or refutation. We have seen that there was some revival of learning under Charlemagne that may be called a ‘renaissance’ but that it did not issue into any real intellectual creativity. Its major accomplishment was the founding of enough schools to educate the clergy in the rudiments of reading and training of enough monastic scribes to recopy and preserve some major works of Roman literature. Even this accomplishment was jeopardized in the period of invasions that accompanied the fall of the Carolingian Empire. Fortunately just enough schools and manuscripts survived to become the basis for another –far greater—revival of leaning that began in the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
In the realm of literature the early Middle Ages had an extremely meager production. This was because few Christians could write and those who could were usually monks and priests, who were not supposed to engage in purely literary endeavors. There was some impressive writing of history in Latin, most notably that of Bede and Charlemagne’s eloquent biographer, Einhard, but otherwise Latin composition was little cultivated. Toward the close of the period, however, the vernacular languages, which were either Germanic or based on different regional dialects of Latin . . . began to be employed for crude poetic expression, usually first by oral transmission. An online account by the name of @MrReaganUSA posted an artificial intelligence-generated version of President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent White House meeting, and the results are even more hiliarious than the real thing, if you can imagine.

Art requires the use of imagination, but so does political and social analysis. But imagination is just a first step; it proves nothing.
Evidence is required. But imagination rules out nothing from the start. If one cannot imagine an hypothesis or a scene – no matter how seemingly implausible – to be possibly true, one will leave it unexamined. As Graeme MacQueen, the author of the crucial book, The 2001 Anthrax Deception, and much else, put it:
Suppose our imaginations can embrace the possibility that the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated by elements in the U.S. government. In that case what do we do next? There is no mystery. Once the imagination stops filtering out a hypothesis and allows it into the realm of the possible, it can be put to the test. Evidence and reason must now do the job. Imagination cannot settle the question of truth or falsity any more than ideology, morality, or “common sense.”
We know that in the case of the attacks of September 11, 2001 that this is precisely what did not occur. Various hypotheses were ignored and emotional patriotism held sway. The script had been written in advance and the good and bad characters chosen. “It was another Pearl Harbor, bin Laden did it from his cave in Afghanistan, it seemed like a movie, etc.” And those anthrax attacks were claimed to be second stage terror attacks of these monsters, except that it turned out this wasn’t so and that the anthrax came from a U.S. government lab. MacQueen proved in his book that this was so and that the anthrax attacks were directly linked to the those of September 11, later showing through meticulously logical and evidence-based research that both were inside jobs.
Even today, this conclusion is hard for most people to accept, for the conclusion they started with – what was planted in their brains – precluded imagining another hypothesis. To do so was considered too outrageous – an impossibility that offended the patriotic heart.
And of course the Bush administration’s lies steamrolled any skepticism, the Patriot Act was quickly passed, and endless U.S. wars of aggression ensued, both preceding and following Colin Powell’s Academy Award performance at the United Nations. But he too was an honorable man.
They too are honorable men.
So if you sat with your mouth agape in shock at the dog and pony show in DC between Trump, the reality TV actor, and Zelensky, the comedian, who became Ukraine’s president and Trump’s apprentice in 2019 during Trump’s first term, let me suggest a bizarre possibility at a time when the bizarre has become commonplace.
Across the spectrum of opinion on the mainstream and alternative media, it is assumed without question that what took place on Friday, February 28, 2025 between Trump and Zelensky, ably assisted by Vance, should be taken at face value – in other words, as real.
The political reactions to that shouting match are what one would expect.
The Democrats are outraged that Trump (and Vance) would bully and humiliate an heroic ally who has been fighting a valiant war against the evil Russians and Putin.
Thus Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders, toeing the party war line, had this to say:
Zelensky: Victim of Colosseum Politics
Trump criticizes Zelensky, the leader of a democratic country who is courageously fighting Russian imperialism, while he aligns himself with Putin, the dictator who started the bloodiest European war in 80 years. Sorry, President Trump. We believe in democracy, not authoritarianism.
And on the Republican side, Senator Lindsay Graham, while calling the meeting “a complete disaster” but urging continued support for the war for “democracy,” said he was never more proud of Trump:
What I saw in the Oval office was disrespectful and I don’t know if we can ever do business with Zelensky again.
These reactions have been repeated ad infinitum. They are equally absurd propaganda in the service of the U.S. elites’ Repubmocratic tandem team of imperialists.
And then there are the reactions of utter shock from all corners who call this fight an historic and a diplomatic turning point to be immortalized.
It is hard, I know, to hear an unbearable possibility: But suppose it were a performance, not just in the sense that Trump and Vance set Zelensky up, but as a coordinated reality TV show in which all the principle actors were performing from a script whose goal was the opposite of all the subsequent interpretations. A script that allowed for some improvisation, as comedians like Zelensky and reality TV stars like Trump are adept at. Improvisations that may have gone a step too far and elicited outbursts that tarnished the performance but did not derail the overall goal of showing that the puppet-apprentice serves at the whim of the show’s host, and despite all the loot showered upon him, he could still be fired and replaced with another puppet, as the play would proceed under a new name.
As Friedrich Nietzsche wrote in Thus Spoke Zarathustra:
“There are unconscious actors among them, and involuntary actors; the genuine are always rare, especially genuine actors.”
If it sounds hyperbolic to entertain such a thought, I agree. Yet I assume you would agree that we are living in hyperbolic and vertiginous times, a society of the spectacle, as Guy Debord called his famous book. A time when acting is promoted as the pinnacle of the professions, a skill requisite for spy craft, stagecraft, and political craft in equal measure.
A meaningless coincidence it no doubt is, but the famous shout down of Zelensky by Trump and Vance and Zelensky’s responses just “happened” to occur 48 hours before Hollywood’s self-celebration of the Academy Awards.
Of course I have no evidence for this hypothesis and it might sound as if I have come unhinged. But wouldn’t it serve common sense to entertain it as an alternative interpretation when hyper reality has become commonplace and the realization that we have been ruled by con men and fraudsters is widely accepted?
Over the same 48 hours, the Trump administration, that is allegedly antiwar and deeply affected by all the deaths in Ukraine, has had Secretary of State Marco Rubio expedite the shipment of $4 billion in military aid to Israel to continue its savage slaughter of Palestinians, Lebanese, Syrians, et al. Rubio said this is part of the $12 billion Trump has approved in arms for Israel since he took office 42 days ago. Antiwar.com has reported:
‘The statement came a day after the statement [sic] department approved three separate arms deals for Israel worth nearly $3 billion, which includes a huge number of 2,000-pound bombs. The biggest sale, which will likely be funded by US military aid, includes 35,529 MK-84 or BLU-117 2,000-pound b[sic]ombs and 4,000 I-2000 Penetrator warheads.’
Israel has used heavy bombs in strikes on residential buildings that have killed hundreds of civilians. It has also weaponized the bombs as chemical weapons after finding that dropping several of them on tunnels releases deadly carbon monoxide gas.
As I have written previously, there is far more to consider when you hear clapping for Trump’s plans to “end” the U.S. proxy war against Russia. You can end the overt war and continue the covert.

This is how “we the people” remain on the losing end of this devil’s bargain that is life in the American police state.
What we desperately need is a reality check, and that starts by disconnecting from the Deep State’s propaganda-riddled, manipulated alternative reality about the state of our nation.
While President Trump, well versed in the “art of the deal,” appears to be saying all the right things about peace, corruption, graft, wasteful spending, free speech, equality, bloated bureaucracy, national security, etc., his administration’s actions tell a far different story about his priorities and his loyalties, which remain self-serving, imperial, flagrantly unconstitutional and intended to keep the Deep State in power.
As always, actions speak louder than words.
When the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are still missing from the White House’s website, that oversight—or deliberate omission—speaks volumes.

‘Nearly every federal agency in the US government could fall under the scrutiny of DOGE.’ With these words on Fox News on February 7th, Donald Trump outlined the scope of DOGE – the Department of Government Efficiency – his administration’s planned overhaul of federal institutions, with Elon Musk at its helm.
Within days, the administration has moved to consolidate control over key security apparatus, with the Senate confirming former Democrat turned Trump loyalist Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence and Kash Patel, author of “Government Gangsters,” as FBI director[1]. Democratic Senator Chris Murphy characterized these developments as “the most serious constitutional crisis the country has faced certainly since Watergate,” warning of a “billionaire takeover of government.”[2]
Yet this radical transformation of American governance, far from being an impromptu imitative, represents the culmination of nearly a century of meticulously laid groundwork by conservative elites. Drawing from the previously unexplored McCune archives at Columbia University (NY), this investigation reveals how, since the 1930s, a powerful alliance of industrialists, conservative foundations, and far-right ideologues has progressively worked to infiltrate institutions, reshape governmental structures, and neutralize democratic opposition.
Donald Trump’s inauguration in January 2025 marks the culmination of this counter-revolutionary project, with an unprecedented offensive aimed at dismantling the traditional federal administration in favor of a streamlined structure populated by his loyalists. Recent analyses have begun to grapple with this transformation of American governance from different angles. In their February 2025 Foreign Affairs piece “The Path to American Authoritarianism” Steven Levitsky and Lucan A. Way notably highlight how the Heritage Foundation has invested millions to prepare “an army of up to 54’000 loyalists to fill government positions.”[3] While their analysis astutely identifies mechanisms of state capture, it perhaps underestimates how wealth concentration and corporate influence have historically enabled rather than resisted democratic erosion. Similarly, Mike Brock’s investigation “The Plot Against America” (February 2025) reveals how contemporary tech elites are working to shift power “from democratic institutions to technical systems controlled by a small elite.”[4] Yet these vital contemporary accounts capture only the latest chapter of a much longer historical process, one whose roots stretch back nearly a century.
Wesley McCune’s work provides an indispensable historical record of Trump’s actual counterrevolution effort, through his founding of Group Research Inc. (GRI) in 1962. Prior to establishing GRI, he had served in several government agencies and as assistant to both the Secretary of Agriculture and President Truman (1945-1952). Under his leadership, the GRI compiled the largest documentary collection ever assembled on conservative networks and their funding[5]. These archives expose, through thousands of pages of evidence, how the conservative and fundamentalist Christian right methodically worked to infiltrate institutions, reshape governmental structures, and neutralize democratic opposition – prefiguring with remarkable accuracy the very transformation we are witnessing today[6].

Following the reactions of European leaders to the on-camera spat at the White House between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28, relations between the US president and much of the European Union establishment are reaching a breaking point. The EU establishment has firmly sided with Zelensky and his warmongering policies, contrary to common sense and the peace efforts of Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
On March 2, an informal meeting of European leaders and Canada was held in London. Following the meeting, it was announced that Ukraine would receive more military aid and sanctions on Russia, territories would be returned to Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, with other nations, would form a military coalition to get boots on the ground.
By reacting the way they did, EU leaders have once again shown that they are undermining peace, just as then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson did when he sabotaged the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in early 2022. However, just as Johnson was not punished for prolonging death and war in Ukraine, it is unlikely that EU leaders will ever be held accountable for their actions, especially German, Polish and Baltic politicians, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and many others in Brussels who agree on a policy of aligning with Zelensky and anti-Trump policies.
Following the spat between the US and Ukrainian presidents, European leaders sent messages of solidarity with Kiev. Many European leaders posted a uniform message on their social media accounts that they “stand with Ukraine.”
A sign of the growing rift between Washington and Brussels, particularly after the chaotic meeting between Trump and Zelensky, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said:
“Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.”
It is also recalled that during his visit to the White House on February 24, French President Emmanuel Macron tried to deceive Trump and drag him down a path the US president did not want to take. It became clear to Trump that he could not count on European politicians.
If it was not clear following the meeting with Macron, it certainly became clear to Trump when British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was a guest in the Oval Office on February 27, particularly after US Vice President J.D. Vance blasted Britain’s descent into authoritarianism and lack of free speech.

It is expected that in the coming period, there will be very strong obstructions from the EU to any agreement between Trump and Putin. There will also be such obstructions within the US, especially from the remnants of the Deep State and the mainstream media that are still critical of Trump and loyal to ultraliberal policies. The very core of the EU – the European Commission, the leadership of the European Council, the majority in the European Parliament, as well as the leading EU leaders are also of the same view, which is opposite to the rest of the world that advocates for peace.
The EU itself is divided into states that supported peace efforts and distanced themselves from Brussels—primarily the political leaderships of Slovakia and Hungary, but also the leaders of the second-largest party in Germany, the AfD, Marine Le Pen in France, and the leaders of other sovereigntist parties across Europe.
European leaders have not changed their support for war since an attempt was made to end the conflict under conditions that were even more favorable for Kiev at the time. Now, as Trump highlighted in his meeting with Zelensky, Ukraine does not “have the cards right now.”
“You’re not in a good position. You don’t have the cards right now. With us, you start having cards. You’re playing cards. You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people. You’re gambling with World War III,” Trump said to a shocked Zelensky.
Of course, Zelensky denied Trump’s statements, stuttering, “I’m not playing cards” and “What are you speaking about?”
The US president’s main priority is normalizing relations with Moscow, including ending the conflict in Ukraine. Normalization will remain a priority even if the Kiev regime and European leaders do not agree to it.
Nonetheless, it appears that parts of Europe have not yet given up on the Trump administration, like Kaja Kallas has. Starmer announced on March 2 that Britain, France, and Ukraine have agreed to work on a ceasefire plan to present to Washington.
“We’ve now agreed that the United Kingdom, along with France and possibly one or two others, will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting, and then we’ll discuss that plan with the United States,” Starmer told the BBC.
This was followed by Zelensky announcing on the same day as Starmer’s statement that he was “ready to sign” the minerals agreement with Trump.
However, given the EU’s growing hostility to Trump and resistance to peace, the US president has little incentive to take the Franco-Anglo peace plan seriously since they have been harbingers to continue the war. Trump will continue pursuing a peace plan, even if it intensifies hostility between Europe and Washington.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and the arms industry that depends on it for billions in profits, has become the most aggressive and dangerous military alliance on the planet. Created in 1949 to thwart Soviet expansion into Eastern and Central Europe, it has evolved into a global war machine in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa and Asia.
NATO expanded its footprint, violating promises to Moscow, once the Cold War ended, to incorporate 14 countries in Eastern and Central Europe into the alliance. It will soon add Finland and Sweden. It bombed Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo. It launched wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya, resulting in close to a million deaths and some 38 million people driven from their homes. It is building a military footprint in Africa and Asia. It invited Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea, the so-called “Asia Pacific Four,” to its recent summit in Madrid at the end of June. It has expanded its reach into the Southern Hemisphere, signing a military training partnership agreement with Colombia, in December 2021. It has backed Turkey, with NATO’s second largest military, which has illegally invaded and occupied parts of Syria as well as Iraq. Turkish-backed militias are engaged in the ethnic cleansing of Syrian Kurds and other inhabitants of north and east Syria. The Turkish military has been accused of war crimes – including multiple airstrikes against a refugee camp and chemical weapons use - in northern Iraq. In exchange for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s permission for Finland and Sweden to join the alliance, the two Nordic countries have agreed to expand their domestic terror laws making it easier to crack down on Kurdish and other activists, lift their restrictions on selling arms to Turkey and deny support to the Kurdish-led movement for democratic autonomy in Syria.

Is President Trump the Peace President he makes out to be, and under which banner he has campaigned? Sick and tired of the fraud called Biden Administration, people believed Trump.
The quick answer after a month in office is – Trump is not a Peace President. Trump is a badly deranged person. See this video just released from his Truth Social (Facebook equivalent) channel. It shows in a few minutes how he and Elon Musk envision what he calls Trump Gaza in a (not too distant) future, a decadent luxury place with casinos and golden Trump statues. The video is commented by Owen Jones.
Of course, reconstruction of Gaza will happen only after full expulsion of the remaining Gazan Palestinians, according to Trump, up to 1.8 million (where are the missing 700,000 to make up for the pre-war population of 2.3 million?). They would be forced into neighboring countries in Europe; they may be even acceptable in the US. Rebuilding Gaza as “Trump Gaza” would cost billions and probably take at least a decade.
What is not said in the video, but is implied for those in the know, are the potentially trillions-of dollars-worth of gas reserves offshore of Gaza which Trump on behalf of the US would appropriate and maybe, as part of a typical “Trump Deal”, share with his intimate buddy, the mass murderer Netanyahu.
Some of these Gaza resources would, no doubt, help fund the reconstruction of Gaza which was destroyed by US bombs, missiles and tanks given to Zionist Israel – which did the horrendous, full genocide slaughter and maiming of the Gaza population, predominantly women and children. Maybe not just the official 70,000 killed, but rather ten times more, the above 700,000 difference, hinted at by Trump?
The video is most likely made by (Musk’s) Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is possible that it was hacked by cyber-clowns and Trump opponents into his Truth Social site.
However, many people, mostly supporters of Trump’s, have already commented on it, most of them being disgusted by the video and by association, also with Trump.
In any case, Trump has had plenty of time to be aware of it, to apologize to the People of Gaza and the public around the globe in general, and, of course, take it off immediately. As of a few hours ago, there was no known apology and the video clip has not been removed.

The EU/NATO’s desperation to keep pushing with its crawling aggression against Russia is slowly turning into the rather pathetic “begmanding” we usually see from the Neo-Nazi junta and its frontman Volodymyr Zelensky. This gives even more credence to the hypothesis that NATO-occupied Europe is taking on the role of “the next Ukraine”.
If we don’t count the Baltic Chihuahuas, it seems that Europeans who are the furthest away from Russia are the most belligerent, namely the United Kingdom and France. On the other hand, even Poland is reluctant to get involved as its most experienced military leaders are aware that the Kremlin wouldn’t fight NATO with one hand tied behind its back as it does in Ukraine. Western Europe also understands this, but it still wants escalation. To accomplish this, it needs the US, which is in the middle of a major shift under Trump.
America is currently negotiating with Russia and it seems both sides are largely content with how things are progressing. It can be argued that Moscow is cautiously optimistic, but that’s hardly surprising given the fact that the previous administration was effectively waging a war against it. On February 27, Russian and American delegations concluded their six-hour meeting in Istanbul. This is the second round of peace talks after the previous one in Riyadh.
Expectedly, this meeting also excluded the participation of the EU/NATO and the Kiev regime. The talks included much more than Ukraine and have been focused on fully restoring diplomatic ties between the US and Russia. On the same day, President Vladimir Putin praised this as a positive development in a meeting with the representatives of the Federal Security Service (FSB).
“We all see how rapidly the world is changing, the situation in the world. In this regard, I would like to note that the first contacts with the new US administration inspire certain hopes,” he said, adding: “There is a mutual dedication to work towards restoring interstate relations and gradually resolving the enormous volume of accumulated systemic and strategic problems in the global architecture.”
Putin stressed that these issues provoked both the NATO-orchestrated Ukrainian conflict and other crises around the world. Other top-ranking Russian officials also demonstrated cautious optimism, but reiterated that the Kremlin will achieve all state goals and that this is non-negotiable. However, presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow doesn’t see any immediate breakthroughs in the ongoing talks.

“No one expects easy or quick solutions – the problem is too complex and has been neglected for too long. However, if both countries maintain their political will and willingness to listen to each other, I believe we will be able to navigate this working process,” he said, adding: “There is no need to jump ahead. Information on the outcome of the negotiations will be provided in due course.”
And indeed, Russia is in no hurry and it seems Trump isn’t either. However, the EU/NATO is, as they’re terrified of what’s effectively bound to be a strategic defeat. This is why we saw both Emmanuel Macron and Kier Starmer in Washington DC, desperately trying to persuade Trump to “take action”. France even expressed interest in the rare-earth minerals deal. Some are arguing that Macron’s visit was “awkward” and a “waste of time”, but it seems he persuaded Trump not to cancel Zelensky’s visit to the US.
The same can be said for Starmer whose meeting with Trump also seemed “mildly unpleasant”, but still resulted in the latter toning down his usually unrestrained rhetoric on the Neo-Nazi junta’s frontman. Trump is certainly aware that the EU/NATO need him, as evidenced by his comments on the UK’s ability to “take on Russia by itself”, resulting in a sour smirk on Starmer’s face.
However, while Trump’s exchange with both Macron and Starmer was unpleasant, he still seems rather ambivalent. At one moment, he’s calling for “the killing to stop”, but praising “American weapons and good Ukrainian soldiers” in another, stressing that his decision to supply the “Javelin” ATGMs (anti-tank guided missiles) was supposedly “instrumental”. It should be noted this is another myth that even the endemically and pathologically Russophobic UK recently admitted, pointing out that these weapons are so useless that the Kiev regime troops are abandoning them en masse, resulting in the Russian military now possessing more “Javelins” than the British Army itself. Trump’s ambivalence could certainly be attributed to an attempt of strengthening his negotiating position, but his unpredictability makes it difficult to rely on much of what he says.

After a US delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, both sides agreed that elections need to take place in Ukraine before a peace deal can be negotiated, because Zelenskyy's presidential term has expired and he has outlawed any elections and all opposition parties and he is currently polling at a 4% approval rating among the Ukrainian people.

As the strategic irrelevance of the dying European Union becomes more evident with every passing day, the troubled bloc is desperate to remain relevant, posing as a “great power”. This is rather amusing to Russia, China and now even the United States under Donald Trump. All three superpowers realize that Europe’s place in the geopolitical constellation of global powers is that of a highly dysfunctional second-rate player with little actual leverage over anything (including its own fate).
Several countries in Eastern Europe (particularly Hungary and Slovakia) are refusing to bow down to the diktat of the bureaucratic dictatorship in Brussels, choosing to align themselves with the new Trump administration. Thus, it’s pretty clear that the EU cannot even control its Eastern European members which were never meant to be more than second or even third-class (neo)colonies.
The only regional power outside of the troubled bloc that supports it is the endemically (and pathologically) Russophobic United Kingdom. Namely, London is terrified of seeing Moscow reclaim strong positions in Europe, so it wants to make sure that the NATO-orchestrated Ukrainian conflict continues for as long as possible. It did something similar in former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere around the world, including in Ukraine itself even before 2014.
The former colonial superpower has always been adamant that wars between tellurocracies are a must if thalassocraies are to survive, which is why it invested so much of its power projection into pushing countries like Germany against Russia, including during both world wars. The concept remains unchanged to this day, which explains the UK’s obsession with Russia.
Since the (First) Cold War, this framework has been pushed onto the rest of NATO in Europe (and later the EU itself). Despite leaving the troubled bloc back in 2020, London continues to play a major part in shaping its foreign policy, particularly toward Moscow. Since Brexit, Paris has been quite worried that it would be left as the junior partner, as it previously relied on the Anglo-French alliance to counter Berlin’s economic might.
Thus, both Western European powers used the NATO-orchestrated Ukrainian conflict to reduce Germany’s dominance in the EU while hoping to also inflict damage on Russia. The Neo-Nazi project in Western-occupied Ukraine was one of the useful tools to accomplish both of these goals, primarily by breaking up any form of closer economic ties between the Kremlin and Berlin. This accomplished the goal of the latter’s deindustrialization.
However, with the Kiev regime now collapsing due to a combination of factors such as the growing Russian might and the new Trump administration, the EU/NATO is trying to save this geopolitical carcass by getting directly involved. The stakes couldn’t be higher, as the entire security architecture in Europe seems to be changing just as fast as in 1991 (if not faster).

Europeans Desperate to Stay Relevant, But Still Tossing the Ukrainian Hot Potato at Each Other
To that end, the pathetically impotent Europeans are tossing the hot potato to each other in hopes of finding someone “brave” (i.e. stupid) enough to take a leap of faith and get directly involved in Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron recently suggested sending 200,000 “peacekeepers”, but this figure had to be cut back to only 30,000, as European militaries struggle with recruitment. However, it seems even this is too much, particularly as Russia made it perfectly clear what would happen to them.
Namely, several top-ranking Russian officials stated that the special military operation (SMO) will continue regardless and that any official EU/NATO forces dumb enough to enter Ukraine will be promptly dealt with, reiterating President Putin’s warning from the beginning of the SMO that anyone who thinks they can get directly involved will be faced with consequences they’ve never seen before.
It’s quite clear that the question of Ukraine is a matter of life or death for Russia. And yet, the EU/NATO keeps probing Moscow’s reactions. Realizing its chances against the advancing Russian military are slim to none, Brussels keeps trying to get the US involved. However, it comes at a time when the new Trump administration is looking to reduce troop presence in Europe, while also trying to ease tensions with the Kremlin so it can focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
Desperately looking for scraps, the EU/NATO is proposing that the US provides “technical, logistics, and weapons support instead of American boots on the ground”. This would effectively turn the EU/NATO into “the next Ukraine”. This strategic “punching bag” would then repeatedly smash its head on the Russian “line of steel”, just like the Neo-Nazi junta has. And who is the main proponent of this plan in Europe? Yes, you guessed it – the UK.

“Scholz said in an interview with German television over the weekend that Berlin’s investigation would make sure that nothing was concealed and do its best to ensure that those responsible for the blasts were punished.
Moscow has repeatedly complained that Germany has not been doing enough to investigate the explosions, which in September 2022 ruptured the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines that were built to carry Russian gas to Europe under the Baltic Sea.
But Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Monday welcomed Scholz’s latest comments.
“We absolutely agree that the terrorist attack, the sabotage of the Nord Streams must be thoroughly investigated, despite the desperate attempts of some states involved in this story to hush it up,” Peskov told reporters on Monday, without naming the countries he was accusing of a cover-up.”

While 51 % of North Stream 2 belonged to Russia’s Gazprom, the infrastructure within the EU belonged to several European investors and governments. The Company was registered in Zug, Switzerland.

“Lawsuit Filed Against Intelligence Agencies Involved in the Assassination of Malcolm X”

On Sunday afternoon February 21, 1965, Malcolm X (El Hajj Malik El Shabazz) was gunned down as he stood at the podium of the Audubon Ballroom to address hundreds of people attending a rally of the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU).
Since this fateful day, there has been much speculation over who actually was behind the martyrdom of Malcolm X.
Although three members of the Nation of Islam, two from New York City and the other captured at the scene from New Jersey, were convicted in 1966 for the murder of the revolutionary leader, many believed that they were used as pawns in a larger conspiracy to eliminate the OAAU Chairman. Talmadge Hayer was caught while attempting to flee the ballroom and was taken into custody by the New York City police outside the building while he was being held and beaten by those attending the rally.
Hayer during the trial testified that he was one of the assailants. However, he declared that the other two co-defendants were not involved. Many years later in 1981 in an exclusive interview with journalist Tony Brown, Hayer revealed the names of the others who carried out the killing of Malcolm X.
These individuals who were, in all likelihood, still alive at the time were never pursued by the New York police or the FBI. Even at the time immediately following the assassination, the New York police and prosecutors suppressed eyewitness statements which placed those responsible for the killing at the scene of the crime.
The surviving daughters of Malcolm X filed a $100 million lawsuit against the New York police, the FBI and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in November 2024. Attorney Ben Crump is the lead counsel in the lawsuit and says that his complaint is based on the failure of the law-enforcement and intelligence agencies to protect Malcolm X.
Crump called for the declassification of the files related to the surveillance of Malcolm X over a period of years while he worked as a minister, spokesman and organizer for the NOI and later the Muslim Mosque Incorporated (MMI) and the OAAU. The attorney was also quoted by CBS news as saying that Malcolm X’s security team had been arrested several days before his assassination, a claim never made before in which he provided no documentation.
Thousands of Pages of FBI Files Have Been Declassified and Released Since the Late 1970s
Despite Crump’s call for the release of classified documents on Malcolm X held by the FBI, CIA and the NYPD, the reality is that more than 9,000 pages of files have already been released since at least 1977 when the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was utilized to obtain the heavily redacted documents extending from 1953, when Malcolm X was living in Inkster, Michigan with his older brother Wilfred X, who was also a member of the NOI. The FBI files, many of which were shared with other intelligence agencies as well as the State Department and several divisions of the U.S. military, are available online. (See this)
The files released by the FBI are based upon information received from special agents, informants, wiretaps and open sources such as newspaper and magazine articles along with radio and television broadcasts recorded and transcribed by bureau operatives. Other information was taken from obvious collaboration with fellow governmental agencies such as the U.S. Passport Office, diplomatic outlets along with airline companies.

For over two decades, I and a handful of others — Sheldon Wolin, Noam Chomsky, Chalmers Johnson, Cornel West, Barbara Ehrenreich, Ralph Nader and of course Jill Stein and Kshama Sawant — warned that the expanding social inequality and the capture of our democratic institutions, including the media, the Congress, organized labor, academia and the courts by corporations and oligarchs would lead to an authoritarian or Christian fascist state.
My books — American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America (2007), Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle (2009), Death of the Liberal Class (2010), Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt (2012), written with Joe Sacco, Wages of Rebellion (2015) and America: The Farewell Tour (2018) were a succession of impassioned pleas to take the decay seriously. I take no joy in being correct.

Donald Trump does not herald the collapse of democracy. He heralds the ripping away of the veneer that masked the corruption within the ruling class and their pretense of democracy. He is the symptom, not the disease.
The loss of basic democratic norms began long before Trump.
Deindustrialization, deregulation, austerity, unchecked predatory corporations, including the health-care industry, wholesale surveillance of every American, social inequality, an electoral system that is defined by legalized bribery, endless and futile wars, the largest prison population in the world, but most of all feelings of betrayal, stagnation and despair, are a toxic brew that culminate in an inchoate and justified hatred of the ruling class.
The Democrats are as guilty as the Republicans.
“Trump and his coterie of billionaires, generals, half-wits, Christian fascists, criminals, racists, and moral deviants play the role of the Snopes clan in some of William Faulkner’s novels,” I wrote in America: The Farewell Tour.

“Let a world collapse, in the South or Russia, and there appear figures of coarse ambition driving their way up from beneath the social bottom, men to whom moral claims are not so much absurd as incomprehensible, sons of bushwhackers or muzhiks drifting in from nowhere and taking over through the sheer outrageousness of their monolithic force,” Howe wrote.

The political philosopher Sheldon Wolin called our system of governance “inverted totalitarianism,” one that kept the old iconography, symbols and language, but had handed the internal levers of power to corporations and the rich.
Now we are shifting to totalitarianism’s more recognizable form, one dominated by a demagogue.

“Germany’s Friedrich Merz Adopts Nationalist Rhetoric to Legitimize His Anti-Russian Plans”

The European sovereignty agenda is being hypocritically used by liberal leaders to fight Donald Trump’s policies. In Germany, the potential new chancellor is publicly advocating for Berlin’s “independence” from the US. Although such independence is indeed necessary, European liberals have anti-sovereign intentions in adopting these agendas.
Friedrich Merz is indicated by preliminary data as the winner of the German parliamentary elections. Leading the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Merz is expected to receive around 28.5% of the vote, becoming the country’s prime minister. His victory means that Germany will continue to be governed by a warmongering and anti-Russian political elite, with no significant change in Berlin’s foreign policy.
Merz, however, often seems to have an even more aggressive stance than Olaf Scholz. He has made it clear that he does not intend to engage in dialogue with Russia, which represents a setback for Germany, since Scholz himself, who is one of the most warmongering leaders of the EU, had taken the initiative to talk directly to Trump.
The possible new German chancellor has also been harshly critical of the US and Donald Trump. He has described American interference in European affairs as “outrageous” and “dramatic”. Merz believes that Trump is indifferent to Europe, not caring about the stability of his own allied countries. For this reason, he has called on Germany to achieve “independence from the US”, freeing itself from the negative external influence of Washington.
“The interventions from Washington were no less dramatic, drastic, and ultimately outrageous than the intervention we saw from Moscow (…) The Americans, at least those in the current government, are largely indifferent to the fate of Europe (….) (Germany must) gradually achieve independence from the US (…) I would have never thought that I would have to say something like that on a TV show,” he said.
It is curious to see pro-war European leaders using this kind of narrative, since the struggle for European sovereignty contradicts the entire Western agenda advocated by the EU. It seems that the liberal politicians of the European bloc are trying to change their rhetoric towards the US just to react to Donald Trump’s nationalist and isolationist policies.
It is impossible to talk about sovereignty in Europe and support the continuation of the war against Russia at the same time, since NATO’s anti-Russian campaign was supported by the EU precisely in a gesture of subservience to Washington. The anti-Russian economic sanctions, for example, were imposed by the US and adopted by the Europeans even though it has been proven that such measures harm European strategic interests.

Germany’s Interior Ministry, headed by Nancy Faeser – known for banning media outlets – and the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth have launched a project dubbed, “Advice Compass on Conspiracy Thinking.”
The center is there to provide advice to anyone who “suspect their friends or family members have fallen victim to conspiracy theories,” according to the Interior Ministry.
You can’t make this up, and Germany’s current authorities are no pioneers here. In one form or another, the “spying starts at home” policy – trying to get people to make the state’s population surveillance job easier – has existed before.
But, worryingly, that was/is under some of the most repressive regimes in recent history.
As serious as the matter is, hilariously enough, the German word for “advice” happens to be – “rat.”
“Holistic” is how Faeser chose to describe this approach and the inclusion of the “advice” center into Germany’s overall fight against what the authorities consider to be extremism and disinformation.

“Neurotechnologies Enabling Remote Control of the Activity of Human Brains”

A group of American conservative politicians issued a statement on June 3, 1997, titled “Project for the New American Century.” Among the signatories of this statement were ten members of the future American Bush administration, including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and George Bush’s brother Jeb. The organization called for the promotion of complete American dominance in the world. It stated:
“we need to accept responsibility for America’s unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.“
In September 2000, the Project for the New American Century published a study “Rebuilding America’s Defenses Strategy, Forces and Resources for a New Century“. There you can read:
“To preserve American military preeminence in the coming decades, the Department of Defense must move more aggressively to experiment with new technologies and operational concepts, and seek to exploit the emerging revolution in military affairs…These information technologies are having the same kind of transforming effects on military affairs as they are having in the larger world. The effects of this military transformation will have profound implications for how wars are fought, what kinds of weapons will dominate the battlefield and, inevitably, which nations enjoy military preeminence… Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor. Domestic politics and industrial policy will shape the pace and content of transformation as much as the requirements of current missions.”
The concept of Revolution in Military Affairs encompasses scientific research indicating that human brain activity, including cognitive functions, can be modulated by directing electromagnetic waves or other physical fields at it, which induces electrical currents that align with its inherent frequencies.
At that time already quite a few scientists have warned that the latest advances in neurophysiology could be used for the manipulation of the human consciousness.
In June 1995, Michael Persinger, who contributed to the U.S. Navy’s project on non-lethal electromagnetic weapons, published a scientific article in which he stated:
“the technical capability to influence directly the major portion of the approximately six billion brains of the human species without mediation through classical sensory modalities by generating neural information within a physical medium within which all members of the species are immersed… is now marginally feasible“ (11).
In 1998, the French National Bioethics Committee warned that “neuroscience is being increasingly recognized as posing a potential threat to human rights.“
In May 1999 the neuroscientists conference, sponsored by the UN, took place in Tokyo. Its final declaration formally acknowledges that:
“Today we have intellectual, physical and financial resources to master the power of the brain itself, and to develop devices to touch the mind and even control or erase consciousness…We wish to profess our hope that such pursuit of knowledge serves peace and welfare.”
Commander Cornelis van der Klaauw from Royal Netherlands Navy, and Expert from Strategic Communications and Information Operations NATO Joint Warfare Centre, wrote in an article in 2023:
“The reason why cognitive attacks go unnoticed by their targets is that cognitive activities bypass the conscious mind and directly target the subconscious of a person… most of our decisions are made by our subconscious…Cognitive attacks are aimed at exploiting emotions rooted in our subconscious, bypassing our rational conscious mind.“
In 2021 the International Bioethics Committee of UNESCO wrote:
“External tools that may interfere with our decisions can call into question, or even challenge, an individual’s free will, and consequently an individual’s responsibilities. In this way, neurotechnology could affect freedom of thought, decision-making and action. Taken together, these could have a profound impact on justice systems and social organizations” (pg. 36). In the conclusion of its study it encouraged its member states to guarantee neurorights to their citizens (pg. 38).
An article published in the Space & Defense Journal of the United States Air Force Academy Eisenhower Center for Space and Defense Studies notes:
“Neuroweapons are intended to influence, direct, weaken, suppress, or neutralize human thought, brainwave functions, perception, interpretation, and behaviors to the extent that the target of such weaponry is either temporarily or permanently disabled, mentally compromised, or unable to function normally“ (pg. 11).
In 1994 the Strategic Studies Institute at the U.S. Army War College published the booklet ”Revolution in Military Affairs and Conflict Short of War”. Since the national security information was in question, the book could not tell the readers what technology exactly is making this revolution feasible. Instead the authors wrote about a “sort of psychotechnology“. As well from the beginning the authors were aware that the use of this technology may run counter to basic moral and political values of the American society and for that matter the Revolution in military affairs would require a moral and political revolution to come first. They stated:
“old-fashioned notions of personal privacy and national sovereignty“ have to be changed and developed a scenario of events that would lead American political leaders to support such a revolution. They were to be persuaded by terrorist attacks and rising crime rates. As a result “Potential or possible supporters of the insurgency around the world were identified through a comprehensive Interagency Integrated Database, categorized as potential or active, and “a sophisticated computer simulation of personality was created and focused on each one individually” (pg. 13).
Both cited documents (Rebuilding America’s Defenses and Revolution in Military Affairs) indicated the need for a false flag operation that would pave the way for changing the American political system and at the same time introduce U.S. global dominance. Not too long after their publication, the September 11, 2001 attacks occurred, which raised doubts about whether U.S. security agencies were unaware of the attack preparations, and whether explosives manufactured exclusively by the U.S. Department of Defense were used in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers.

Polish Premier Donald Tusk is going all out to make Poland the leading European country in the development of AI technologies, especially ‘Cloud’ advanced ‘internet of everything’ computing and digital two way distribution systems.
Cozying up to the US corporation Microsoft has won Tusk a seven hundred million dollar investment package “To establish a framework to strengthen Polish Cyber-security, involving the expansion of its hyper-scale cloud artificial intelligence structure in Poland by June 2026” (Warsaw Voice News Journal).
This comes on top of an earlier top level agreement reached with Google to invest heavily in Polish AI developments.
This rush into artificial intelligence is seen, by top level political maneuverers, as a big money spinner. It is part of a global stampede to get ahead of the game in establishing mass human surveillance, digital programming and the grand prize of amassing vast swathes of data in order to influence behaviour patterns of the population.
Sold as being a necessary tool for ‘cyber security anti-hacking’ national defence interests, it is actually a major step in the move to put a totalitarian control system in place to prevent any chance of an organised push back against the deep state.
Poland is considered a soft touch for this form of high tech hegemony. Polish citizens were at the forefront of cellular mobile phone uptake from the time of their first introduction to Europe and have been quick to ditch land lines in favour of EMF WiFi systems.
Microsoft has picked up on this trend and is currently pouring money into AI training centres on Polish university campuses and already employs over two thousand people in its Warsaw headquarters.
What will these young graduates find themselves embroiled in once they lend their talents to these vast corporations dedicated to profiting from a commitment to put in place the diktats of the World economic Forum’s ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution/Great Reset’?
Here’s a brief summary of the Brave New World that they will (mostly unwittingly) be paid to turn into reality both on the ground and in space.
The AI Cloud will likely be amongst the first major high-tech development programs that new recruits will be set to work on. This is a dense interconnecting network of electromagnetic pulses that link up to form a persistent microwave grid, managed and directed from a central control base station.
Into this is fed vast reams of data harvested from personal human economic transactions and communications; observed behavioural patterns and purchasing choices; preferences in online and off line entertainment; frequent contacts; economic status; membership of organisations; political affiliations; domestic and non domestic work routines; travel movements – and of course any criminal record.
All this information is to be available 24/7 for instant access by governmental and secret service cyber security personnel supposedly on the look out for suspicious behaviour that could constitute a ‘threat to the state’.

NATO and the EU chose the wrong path after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. Instead of dissolving NATO, building a new European common security structure and conflict-resolution mechanism à la the UN in Europe, it broke all promises given by Western top leaders to Gorbachev about not expanding NATO ”one inch.”
Deaf and blind to all warnings, Europe – also failing to become more independent of the US – finally fell into its ultimate hubris trap of trying to get Ukraine into NATO against the will of 85% of its people.
The NATO meeting, followed by the Munich Conference of February 14-16, 2025, changed everything. The Trump 2.0 administration bluntly drove over the European allies (not Europe as such, US nuclear weapons remain, and the US wants a future war to take place there to remain unscathed) to build an autarchic Greater America grabbing resources from Panama over Canada and Greenland to the Arctic, Scandinavia and the resources outside what I call Trump’s ”Las VeGaza”.
That Greater America is, of course, all a fantasy that will not come about peacefully.

The cynicism vis-a-vis Europe is indeed tangible. The root cause of the tragic war in Ukraine was neither Russia’s taking over Crimea nor invading Ukraine but the Obama administration’s 2014 regime change in Kiev, the selection of a pro-West/NATO leadership, and arming Ukraine to conduct a devastating politico-military war on everything Russian in that mixed country.
No Western leaders considered President Putin’s concerns about this: NATO had 12 times higher military expenditures than Russia and thought it did not have to listen.
Predictably – because he had said he would stop the war – Trump now deals directly with President Putin and drives over both Europe and Ukraine. His future focus is the Greater USAutarchy and then China.
The Europeans – imbued with self-righteous groupthink (except for Hungary’s Orban) – never grabbed the phone to Putin. It cancelled diplomacy, humiliated Russia and Russians and acted over three years as if they should never meet a Russian again. Childishly, they now feel betrayed by Washington for not being invited to the table! European leaders, despite their manifest havoc and Ukraine’s devastation, insist on ”winning the war against Russia” (now without the US) through continued cynical bleeding of Ukraine, arguing that Ukraine must be further re-armed to be strong at the negotiation table later.
They also talk about NATO soldiers as ”peacekeepers”, shockingly ignoring that the UN is the eminent, experienced peacekeeper.
Europe will now live with a double Cold War – Russia to the East, the US to the West – and militarise itself to death.
Tragic beyond words, it is all of its own making.

What once “made America great” (at least for the majority white population) were its successive waves of immigrants. What underscored the American economy’s strength was its ability to absorb and integrate those waves despite frictions among them: a genuinely productive melting pot. My American schooling through my PhD stressed such points.
What then reversed such a positive understanding of immigration? What converted immigration instead into an urgent danger to American greatness? What lets Trump pose as “protecting” us by sharply reducing immigration and massively deporting immigrants? (By “immigrants” I mean the vast majority of people who are poor and join the working class at low levels of pay. Foreign-born U.S. residents comprise about 14 percent of the total population or roughly 46 million. About 12 million of them are undocumented.)
Answers to such questions lie in the political economy of immigration. Yet those answers and the political economy that generates them are stunningly absent from popular debates and consciousness. The Republican party’s recent years of anti-immigration rhetoric plus the immigrant deportation policies in place across the last three presidencies illustrate that absence. Many politicians from both the Republican and Democratic parties support deportation as the necessary response to the “costly invasions” of immigrants (often equated to criminals). Yet evidence for this demonization program has been very scarce. Its proponents seem largely ignorant of the actual economics of immigration.
Most immigrants coming to the United States are young adults. The young can best manage migration’s hardships and dangers. They can most readily fill the hardest jobs at the lowest pay that their desperate and vulnerable circumstances force on them. The undocumented among them are the most vulnerable. They dare not complain to the police or other government officials when employers take advantage of them and abuse them. Immigrants often send portions of their wages (“remittances”) back to the countries they left. Remittances help care for children, the elderly, and others who remained there and partially compensate those countries of origin for losing their emigrants’ productivity.
Before adult immigrants arrived in the United States, their upbringing was financed by their countries of origin. Their families and governments spent considerable sums feeding, clothing, sheltering, educating, etc., them from birth to 15-18 years of age. They “invested” in their young people but obtained little income from that investment because the young adults migrated to the United States. Their years of productivity benefited the U.S. economy, not the economy of the countries that invested in them.

There was a revolting tabloid quality to the Oval Office reception given to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28, but then again, President Donald Trump is a tabloid brute, a man incarnated from the nastiest, shallowest precepts of yellow press clippings and, ultimately, the reality television empire that gave him a crown and forever enshrined him in the culture of brash Americana. From the foamy cable television rot of the republic, Trump’s progress was inexorable.
With such ingredients, the White House has become a studio, with the statesmanship of the bullying show paramount. The electors are to be entertained by what might be called colosseum politics. They want bread, but are very keen on the circuses. They want season tickets to the MAGA tent where they can witness muscular events. They want to know that the US will recoup what it gives, with interest.
When the satirically gifted Hugh Hector Munro (“Saki”) warned that being a pioneer was never wise, seeing as the Early Christian tended to get the fattest lion, it would be better to say that the lions here – Trump and his shock troop deputy J.D. Vance – seemed to have been on lettuce offerings and stale water for a week. The lean, mean duo were remorselessly and disgracefully hungry, making sure the Ukrainian leader was subject to a battering that proved unusually long. (These Oval office briefings before the press are usually short, snappy matters: a few anodyne questions; a few general remarks that barely ripple.)
It was also evident that Zelensky had not gotten the brief about Trump, prompting Marek Magierowski in the National Interest to describe him as “a worse psychologist than [French President] Emmanuel Macron and [UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer], who had paid a visit to the White House just before him and, to some extent, ‘charmed’ the US president.”
Unlike the two leaders who had come before him, Zelensky thought it wise to engage in a squabble about Russian intentions and the character of Russia’s Vladimir Putin, the factual record (always dangerous in dealing with Trump, who regards facts as, as best, malleable), a duel that saw shock trooper Vance weigh in. According to the Veep, Zelensky was not there to “litigate” the matter before the American public, which is precisely what he and Trump seemed to be doing. This was the language of prefects and school masters, with the student reluctant to play along.
It was a salient reminder that support for Ukraine has iced over, that it is no longer the blue-eyed boy of US politics, Western civilisation’s consecrated prop against Russian savagery. Republican Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham even went so far as to demand that the Ukrainian leader “either … resign and send somebody over and we can do business with, or he needs to change.”
Trump Slams Zelensky: “He’s maybe the greatest salesman of any politician that’s ever lived”
Trump’s opponents have fumed at the president for having laid an ambush for the Ukrainian leader and promoting Russian talking points, naturally exonerating previous administrations for their contributory role (former Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland’s intervention comes to mind) in feeding the conflict.

Scottish Greens call “Trump not welcome in Scotland”. Well, if so, Zelensky shouldn’t be either. It’s not the Scottish war (neither the Polish one). We also need to see that historically Ukraine’s attitude towards Donbas and Russian-speaking people of Novorossiya was similar to the British one against Scotland. Let’s not be like the UK!
Honourable Dictator?
Another example, already in March 2022 the Highland Council granted the Ukrainian president Freedom of the Highlands. Just think, such an honourable title for a person suppressing trade unions, banning freedom of faith, cancelling democratic elections! For the politician created by the oligarchs and supported by the Nazis! I’ve always believed that Scotland could be proud being a wee aside from the main Western affairs. But to be aside doesn’t mean to be ignorant, as those people honouring Zelensky! After all we know now about the undemocratic Kiev regime politics it’s high time to reverse the decision to honour the Ukrainian dictator.
No Blank Cheques for Westminster!
Let’s also look at the bigger picture. All our actions must be focused on the Scottish independence cause. In the face of possibly upcoming WW3, it’s not only about the fairness but the issue of life and death of ourselves and our children. We can’t be sure whether the split between the US and UK governments is real or just mock. Out of pure caution we ought to remember that the UK would have lost two World Wars without American (and… Russian) help. Apparently, they want to fail in the Third one. But whatever it’s supporting the British against the Americans would be the most stupid thing the Scottish independence movement could do.

One hundred years ago, Ireland regained independence when the UK acknowledged that it can’t count on further American support in the Irish case. Whoever lives at Downing Street has no offer for Scotland. I don’t say “let’s support Trump” nor the US imperialism BUT let’s just be smart enough to try to increase the Scottish position with no blank checks for Westminster. The Ukrainian war is going to be even more British than previously, when in 2022 Boris Johnson torpedoed the peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. Haven’t enough Scots died in the past for the glory of the British Empire? Let’s stay out of the present conflict, considered in Westminster and the City as a direct continuation of the 19th Century Great Game between the British Empire and Russia. We have our own very serious problems so we need very serious people to solve them.
The One and Only Case
That’s why discussion whether the British PM should invite the US President to Scotland is wrongly directed. It’s not about sympathy or disagreement with Donald Trump. For Scotland, it should be irrelevant whatever the British PM is going to do as he is foreign to us! When we become independent state, there will be no need for such debates and even the SNP MPs will be able to stop the worry about 10 Downing Street opinions. So no matter how you look at them, so called Trump issue, Ukrainian case etc., all these proxy topics always led us to one point: our independence.
The one and only case we should stand for.

Millions of people worldwide are concerned about climate change and believe there is a climate emergency. For decades we have been told by the United Nations that Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activity are causing disastrous climate change. In 2018, a UN IPCC report even warned that ‘we have 12 years to save the Earth’, thus sending millions of people worldwide into a frenzy.
Thirty-five years ago, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the (World Meteorological Organization) WMO established the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to provide scientific advice on the complex topic of climate change. The panel was asked to prepare, based on available scientific information, a report on all aspects relevant to climate change and its impacts and to formulate realistic response strategies. The first assessment report of the IPCC served as the basis for negotiating the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Governments worldwide have signed this convention, thereby, significantly impacting the lives of the people of the world.
However, many scientists dispute with the UN-promoted man-made climate change theory, and many people worldwide are confused by the subject, or are unaware of the full facts. Please allow me to provide some information you may not be aware of.
1. Very few people actually dig into the data, they simply accept the UN IPPC reports. Yet many highly respectable and distinguished scientists have done exactly that and found that the UN-promoted manmade climate change theory is seriously flawed. Are you aware that almost 2,000 of the world’s leading climate scientists and professionals in over 30 countries have signed a declaration that there is no climate emergency and have refuted the United Nations claims in relation to man-made climate change? 2. I have also signed this declaration. How can I make such an assertion? I have experience in the field as a former scientist at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, UK Government; and as former staff member at United Nations Environment, where I was responsible for servicing the Pollution Release and Transfer Register Protocol, a Multinational Environmental Agreement, involving the monitoring of pollutants to land, air, and water worldwide. Real pollution exists, but the problem is not CO2. Industrial globalisation has produced many substances that are registered as pollutants, including thousands of new man-made chemical compounds, toxins, nano-particles and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that are in violation of the scientific pre-cautionary principle.
A book I published also provides ample evidence and testimony from renowned scientists that there is no ‘CO2-induced’ Climate emergency. The book titled ‘Climate CO2 Hoax – How Bankers Hijacked the Environment Movement’ is available on Amazon here.
3. Next, I will mention the Irish Climate Science Forum (ICSF) website, a valuable resource founded by Jim O’Brien. I am grateful to the ICSF for their excellent work in highlighting the scientific flaws in the UN climate narrative. The ICSF provides a comprehensive lecture series from renowned international scientists providing much evidence, analysis, and data that contradicts the UN assertions. The ICSF scientific view coincides with those of the Climate Intelligence (CLINTEL) foundation that operates in the fields of climate change and climate policy. CLINTEL was founded in 2019 by emeritus professor of geophysics Guus Berkhout and science journalist Marcel Crok.
