Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,
Here, as the end of the year 2025 approaches, we take a look at our collective situation with horror: the capitalist system has turned against itself and threatens us with suicide (taking all of us with it, of course). As the old adage goes, the last capitalist shall sell the last rope on Saturday night to be used on Sunday for his own hanging. Such is the shortsightedness of our pathetic leaders, and we all are in deep trouble when they would rather die accumulating profits than introduce meaningful reforms to improve the quality of our lives; such is our collective situation today.
The 26+ items below reflect thoughts taken from the Anglophone social media at a time of great crises. As the concentration of wealth grows in the hands of fewer and fewer capitalists, manufactured chaos has become the norm and political leadership, a veritable clown show. Humanity is on fire, and rational thought is scarce; it cannot put this fire out.
We can hope that the ideas and arguments in these essays and articles might shed some light on our thinking, as our situation deteriorates in this Age of Genocidal Onslaughts, Political Unaccountability, and Immanent Nuclear Holocaust.

What’s next for the Canadian Boat to Gaza in 2026, after the so-called Gaza “peace plan”?
There is no “peace plan”: neither Israel nor the US has any intention of implementing an effective peace. What we have right now is not even a real ceasefire: A ceasefire that does not resolve any of the long-lasting problems of the Palestinians of Gaza. A ceasefire that is not protecting the civilian population in any way and allows Israel to continue to kill and maim scores of Palestinian civilians every day. Meanwhile, the Israeli Occupation Forces and the settlers continue to intensify their crimes against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank as well. Adding insult to injury, Israel told the whole world that it is moving forward in its plans to annex the West Bank, a continuation of Israeli land theft and oppression of Palestinians.
The Israeli genocide by bombing and shooting may have slowed but the genocide by famine and disease continues. Israel continues to prevent sufficient food, clean water and medical aid from entering Gaza, in its ongoing illegal blockade. These are resources which are needed more than ever after two years of Israeli destruction and genocide.
Gaza needs to rebuild. Not only the buildings and the infrastructure: every individual in the Gaza Strip has endured unimaginable physical and mental damage. Children especially need urgent help to even begin to remedy and reverse the damage that has been done to them. In terms of education, psychological healing, medical resources, businesses and agriculture the situation in Gaza is disastrous. It will require sustained world efforts to begin to address the damage that has been done to the Palestinians of Gaza over the last two years - and long before that.
None of the governments who proposed, agreed to, signed or witnessed the ceasefire agreement or UN Security Council Resolution 2803 are doing anything to meet the real needs of the Palestinians of Gaza.
This is why our work with the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) is not done. It is more needed now than ever before. At our recent FFC meeting in Dublin, we condemned the ‘Trump Plan’ which was rubber-stamped at the UN, and we committed to sailing in 2026 with our international partners against the blockade.
Over the last year our participants, volunteers, boats and Flotillas have played an important part in bringing the world’s attention to the genocide Israel is committing in Gaza. Now we have to bring attention to the fact that while the guns are a bit quieter and the drones are less present in the Gazan skies, the Palestinians of Gaza still have urgent needs that are not being met, and it does not seem any government is planning to meet these urgent needs. We cannot rely on governments. We –– people of conscience through civil society organizations –– must answer the call of Palestinians civil society in Gaza and demand a people's corridor to Gaza. Governments will follow.
The solution is not aid alone, although aid is much needed in the immediate future. The real solution will be the lifting of the unjust and inhumane blockade of Gaza. With your support, we will continue to sail until the blockade is lifted, fully, permanently and unconditionally.

Il n'y a pas de « plan de paix » : ni Israël ni les États-Unis n'ont l'intention de mettre en œuvre une paix effective à Gaza. Ce que nous avons actuellement n'est même pas un véritable cessez-le-feu : un cessez-le-feu qui ne résout aucun des problèmes de longue date des Palestiniens de Gaza. Un cessez-le-feu qui ne protège en aucune façon la population civile et permet à Israël de continuer à tuer et à mutiler chaque jour des dizaines de civils palestiniens. Pendant ce temps, les forces d'occupation israéliennes et les colons continuent d'intensifier leurs crimes contre les civils palestiniens en Cisjordanie également. Pour ajouter aggraver les choses, Israël a déclaré au monde entier qu'il allait de l'avant avec ses plans d'annexion de la Cisjordanie, poursuivant ainsi son vol de terres et son oppression du peuple palestinien.
Le génocide israélien par les bombardements et les tirs a peut-être ralenti, mais le génocide par la famine et la maladie se poursuit. Israël continue d'empêcher l'entrée de nourriture, d'eau potable et d'aide médicale en quantité suffisante à Gaza, dans le cadre de son blocus illégal. Ce sont des ressources qui sont plus que jamais nécessaires après deux ans de destruction et de génocide israéliens.
Gaza doit être reconstruite. Pas seulement les bâtiments et les infrastructures : chaque personne vivant dans la bande de Gaza a subi des dommages physiques et psychologiques inimaginables. Les enfants ont particulièrement besoin d'une aide urgente pour commencer à réparer et à inverser les dommages qui leur ont été causés. En termes d'éducation, de guérison psychologique, de ressources médicales, d'entreprises et d'agriculture, la situation à Gaza est désastreuse. Il faudra des efforts soutenus de la part de la communauté internationale pour commencer à réparer les dommages causés aux Palestinien·nes de Gaza au cours des deux dernières années, et bien avant cela.
Aucun des gouvernements qui ont proposé, approuvé, signé ou été témoins de l'accord de cessez-le-feu ou de la résolution 2803 du Conseil de sécurité des Nations Unies ne prend aucune mesure pour répondre aux besoins réels des Palestinien·nes de Gaza.
C'est pourquoi notre travail avec la Coalition des Flottilles de la liberté (Freedom Flotilla Coalition ou FFC) n'est pas terminé. Il est plus nécessaire que jamais. Veteran scholar Norman Finkelsteinsays the UN Security Council resolution isn't a peace deal. It's a death warrant signed by every Arab nation at the table.

First, it was Israel’s right to defend itself. Then it was a war, even though, by Israel’s own military intelligence database, 83 percent of the casualties were civilians. The 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, living under an Israeli air, land and sea blockade, have no army, air force, no mechanized units, no tanks, no navy, no missiles, no heavy artillery, no fleets of killer drones, no sophisticated tracking systems to map all movements, or an ally like the United States, which has given Israel at least $21.7 billion in military aid since Oct. 7, 2023.

Since then, his bank accounts have been frozen and he is banned from traveling within the EU, preventing him from returning to his home country. He says he is accused of spreading pro-Russian propaganda and disinformation, including allegedly promoting a conspiracy theory that Ukraine orchestrated its own invasion by Russia in 2022. He strongly denies this, stating that he merely quoted remarks made in 2019 by Oleksiy Arestovych, then an adviser to President Zelensky, about the risk of war if Ukraine pursued NATO membership. He emphasizes that quoting a Ukrainian official is being treated as evidence of acting as a Russian agent, despite his claim that he has no ties to Russia. The speaker stresses that he was never warned, contacted, or given a chance to respond by EU, Belgian, or Swiss authorities before the sanctions were imposed. He argues the decision is political, not legal: there was no court ruling, no charges under any law, no right to defense, and no real avenue for appeal. He further explains that he deliberately avoided appearing on Russian media, refused invitations from outlets like RT, and bases his work largely on Ukrainian and U.S. sources to maintain academic objectivity. In the U.S., millions depend on sources tainted with excessive heavy metals and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a large family of man-made chemicals used since the 1950s for their nonstick, water- and grease-repellent properties (think nonstick cookware, stain-resistant fabrics, food packaging, and firefighting foams). Other major contributors include untreated wastewater, industrial discharges, agricultural runoff (nutrient pollution), and deteriorating infrastructure. Up to 80% of the world’s wastewater returns to the environment without proper treatment.
Commonly detected contaminants include arsenic, lead, uranium, PFAS, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, nitrates, fracking fluids, disinfectant byproducts, microplastics, pathogens (bacteria, protozoa, viruses), and more.

Modern drinking water originates from surface and groundwater sources that are presumed clean but are increasingly shaped by legacy contamination, delayed exposure, and system design.
Where Our Drinking Water Comes From?
There are essentially two sources; “surface” and “ground.” Surface water refers to water from lakes, rivers, and reservoirs. Groundwater refers to a porous, chemically active, slowly moving system composed of fractured rock, sand, gravel, and clays which occur at various depths underground (see below):
As of 10 years ago, approximately 61% of municipal water was surface water, and the rest was groundwater. Public water is relied upon by 87% of Americans, with the rest drinking from private wells (i.e., private groundwater). Unfortunately (or fortunately as you will read about in a later posr), in either case, a very small number of public water utilities employ Reverse
Osmosis systems.
So, which is better, the river above or the well below?
The answer, my friends, is neither.
The U.S. faces two overlapping water quality challenges:
Surface water pollution is widespread, complex, and traditionally managed through treatment systems that are literally designed to not fully remove all possible contaminants. This affects many major drinking water sources. The problem with groundwater contamination is that it is pervasive in certain regions and difficult to detect and even more difficult to remediate.
