The Plot

Pepperland is a cheerful, music-loving paradise under the sea,

home to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The titular Yellow Submarine rests on an Aztec-like pyramid on a hill.

At the edge of the land is a range of high blue mountains.

The land falls under a surprise attack from the music-hating Blue Meanies,

who live beyond the mountains. The attack starts with a music-proof glass globe that imprisons the band.

The Blue Meanies fire projectiles and drop apples (a reference to the Beatles' then-new company Apple Corps)

that render Pepperland's residents immobile as statues, and drain the entire countryside of colour.

In the last minutes before his capture, Pepperland's elderly Lord High Mayor sends Young Fred to get help.

The Apple Bonkers "bonk" the Mayor with several large apples as Fred takes off in the Yellow Submarine ("Yellow Submarine").

He travels to Liverpool ("Eleanor Rigby"), where he follows a depressed Ringo to "The Pier",

a building on the top of a hill, and persuades him to return to Pepperland with him. Ringo collects his mates John, George, and Paul.

The four decide to help Young Fred, and journey with him back to Pepperland in the submarine

("All Together Now"). They pass the Sea of Time ("When I'm Sixty-Four"), the Sea of Science ("Only A Northern Song"), and the Sea of Monsters,

where Ringo presses the forbidden panic button, and gets swept out of the submarine.

John, Paul and George manage to save Ringo with a rescue button,

bringing him back before a vacuum creature sucks away the whole Sea of Monsters and itself, leaving the group in Sea of Nothing.

Crash landing, they meet Jeremy Hillary Boob Ph.D., a short and studious creature ("Nowhere Man").

The Boob repairs the submarine's tiny motor, and Ringo invites him to join them.

They arrive at the Foothills of the Headlands ("Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"),

where they are accidentally separated from the submarine and Fred.

They then find themselves in the Sea of Holes, where Jeremy is kidnapped by a Blue Meanie,

and Ringo picks up the hole that Jeremy was previously stuck in and puts it in his pocket.

Then when he steps on a green hole, it turns into the Sea of Green, which brings the group to Pepperland.

Reuniting with Young Fred and reviving the apple-bonked Lord Mayor,

they look upon Pepperland's now-miserable, grey landscape.

The Beatles dress up as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, steal some instruments,

and rally the land to rebellion ("Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "With A Little Help From My Friends").

The Chief Blue Meanie retaliates by sending out the Dreadful Flying Glove, which John defeats ("All You Need Is Love").

Pepperland is restored to colour as its residents revive and flowers re-bloom.

Ringo uses the hole in his pocket to release the Lonely Hearts Club Band, and they join the Beatles in combating the Meanies' multi-headed dog ("Hey Bulldog").

Ringo then rescues Jeremy, who performs some "transformation magic" on the Chief Blue Meanie,

causing the Meanie to bloom roses and sadly concede defeat.

John extends an offer of friendship, and the Chief Blue Meanie has a change of heart and accepts,

confessing that he is related to the Bluebird of Happiness.

The Beatles, the Blue Meanies and the Pepperlandians then celebrate their new peace and love ("It's All Too Much").

The film ends with a segment featuring the real Beatles, who playfully show their souvenirs from their journey:

George has the submarine's motor, Paul has "a little 'love',"

and Ringo has "half a hole" in his pocket (having apparently given the other half to Jeremy,

though Paul recommends to "fix it to keep his mind from wondering").

John, looking through a telescope, tells the group, and the audience,

that "newer and bluer Meanies have been sighted within the vicinity of this theatre"

and that everyone will need to sing to ensure the audience escapes.

The Beatles then lead the audience in a sing along to "All Together Now", which ends with translations of the song's title in various languages appearing in sequence on the screen.

The New Year has started badly, as was predicted. The consequence of these flagrant crimes, as always, will be ignored by some and called “collateral damage” by others, but the consequence will be felt by all of us. The irresponsible leadership by the world’s oligarchs is completely out of control; it does not even represent the coherent interests of most corporate capitalists. As a system, the monopoly capitalist economy is in peril by its own contradictions, more than simply by the current depopulation drive, worldwide. The evidence of suicidal pathology is abundant, and it is the duty of all of us to save ourselves and humanity itself. This will be done in a myriad of ways, according to individual and collective proclivities, as long as our activities are truly justifiable and we can be held accountable. Political organization, with regular democratic feedback, stands as a requirement if political power is to be wrestled from the hands of this irresponsible cabal who are now in control and who have mastered the art of "manufactured consent": through such means as intimidation, blackmail, and bribery. Isolated, we are vulnerable; organized, we stand to gain our independence through creative participation in the events that have shaped our thinking. Remain vigilent, and heed the warning of American estheticist, Michael Bingham, against mindless conformity exposed most eloquently in his authoritarian injuction: "Eat shit! Ten billion flies can't be wrong!"

The 26+ items below are essays and articles taken from the Anglophone social media showing at times a remarkable courage of partisan convictions in the troubled era we have now entered. As the concentration of wealth grows in the hands of fewer and fewer capitalist investors, mainstream culture has become polluted with lies and distortions; “manufactured chaos” has become the norm. The current elitist political leadership has nowhere to lead us, and we are finding ourselves in a “free fall” in which securing control of the levers of political power is our only hope for rescue from a cruel demise.

We offer this selection of material from the Anglophone social media as a window to public discussions in a willful and “successful resistance to distractions,” an effort to elucidate our collective situation in this Age of Genocidal Onslaughts, Political Unaccountability, and Imminent Nuclear Demise.

At the end of 2025, the rule of law and personal freedom in Europe were simply rendered null and void by an administrative decision of the European Union. On December 15, the foreign policy branch of the European Council issued personal sanctions against a list of individuals, including the highly respected author and commentator Jacques Baud, a retired Swiss intelligence services colonel who has also served the United Nations and NATO. The arbitrary sanctions decree deprives Colonel Baud of his basic means of existence, notably by freezing his bank accounts and assets, banning him from employment or travel (which effectively prevents him from returning to his native Switzerland from his current residence in Brussels); the decree even prohibits anyone from coming to his aid. And this purely simply for having exercised what used to be considered his basic human right to free expression, for having said things which coincided with Russian views on the Ukraine war.

The decision was made in a secret private meeting or EU officials and signed by the notoriously unqualified Estonian High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, appointed without vetting by Commission president Ursula von der Leyen.

This decision recalls the notorious extra-legal practice of absolutist monarchs to issue lettres de cachet, royal orders to imprison or exile any person whose views displeased the monarch.

The Kaja Kallas decree marks an historic regression in human rights in Europe.

In this interview, German member of the European Parliament Michael von Schulenberg highlights some particularly sinister features of this scandal. For one, the EU Treaties exempt decisions taken by the Foreign Policy branch from any legal challenge. They act over the heads of Member States, who are obliged to put European law above their own.So there was no legal basis for the decision, and there is no legal right to challenge it!

Moreover, von Schulenberg noted that members of the European Parliament, who hastily issue vigorous protests against any alleged violation of human rights in some distant country about which they are almost totally ignorant, show absolutely no interest in defending the rights of Europeans. Nor does the Swiss government.

The year 2025 has marked a period of geopolitical tectonic shifts unprecedented not only in recent decades but arguably in centuries.

The multipolar world has now fully emerged.

The era of American Peace has officially ended.

The central question is no longer whether this transition will occur, but how the world will be reshaped.

Will the transition be managed, or will it harden uncontrollably?

The new order has not yet been institutionalized; however, it is evident that the old order has entirely lost its legitimacy. 2025 has demonstrated that multipolarity was not born through a “soft transition,” but rather through a conflictual, irregular, and dangerous process. Instead of managing this transition, the United States has attempted to prevent it—thereby generating deeper and more frequent crises. The war in Ukraine, rising tensions over Taiwan, and increasing vulnerabilities in maritime trade routes are all manifestations of this process.

The new order has not yet been institutionalized; however, it is evident that the old order has entirely lost its legitimacy. 2025 stands as the harshest year of this interim period. It has gone down in history as the year in which Western dominance—and its latest incarnation, Pax Americana—declined de facto, not rhetorically, collapsing across multiple domains. Pax Americana can no longer make credible promises about the future. Historically, a power that has lost its capacity to establish order, manage crises, and maintain legitimacy cannot be associated with the concept of “peace.” From this point onward, the world no longer speaks of an American-centered peace order. Instead, it confronts a polycentric, harsh, uncertain, and transitional era of power struggle. In this age, seas, trade routes, energy corridors, and legal frameworks are being redefined. New balances are emerging amid the wreckage of the old order. This is why 2025 represents not only the end of American Peace, but also the year in which the naked truth of the global order was fully exposed.

The Harsh Birth of the Multipolar Order

Historically, power transitions have never been calm or stable. Declining hegemons have always attempted to delay or prevent transition. Today, rather than accepting its diminishing position and seeking a framework for shared influence with emerging power centers, the United States remains trapped in the reflex of preserving the status quo through force. This approach has not slowed multipolarity; on the contrary, it has rendered the transition more brittle, volatile, and uncontrolled. In this context, the war in Ukraine is not merely a regional conflict; it is the laboratory of the old order’s self-defense. NATO enlargement, the containment of Russia, and the reliance on proxy warfare represent the essence of Washington’s response to multipolarity. Contrary to expectations, however, the war has not demonstrated absolute Western superiority. Instead, it has revealed the limits of sanctions, disparities in military-industrial capacity, and the fragmentation of global support. The Ukrainian front has laid bare the boundaries of hegemonic deterrence.

With the publication of the National Security Strategy (NSS 2025) in early December 2025, the United States openly signaled its retreat from European security, effectively leaving Europe alone with the Ukraine crisis. This maneuver, which triggered a revolutionary shift across the continent, pushed Europe—still loyal to the paradigm of endless wars driven by global finance capital—toward astronomically increased defense expenditures and the intensification of its long-standing hostility toward Russia. The leaders of this bloc, particularly in France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, have demonstrated a troubling willingness to encourage confrontation with Russia despite widespread public opposition.

Similarly, tensions surrounding Taiwan reveal the fragility of the power transition in the Asia-Pacific. What is unfolding is not a classical sovereignty dispute over an island. Taiwan has been transformed into a forward outpost of the U.S. containment strategy against China, ceasing to function as a regional balance element. While this perpetuates military tension, it also turns the Western Pacific—the heart of global maritime trade—into a permanent risk zone for the world economy. Vulnerabilities in maritime trade routes constitute one of the most concrete and dangerous reflections of the multipolar transition. Strategic chokepoints such as the Red Sea, Eastern Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Strait of Malacca are no longer the secure backbone of the global system. They have become zones of geopolitical pressure and military challenge. In this context, the year-round operationalization of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) under Russian control in the Arctic has revealed, for the first time in 500 years, the existence of a major maritime corridor beyond the collective control of the Western world. During this period, the seas have begun to play a separating rather than unifying role.

Multipolarity remains fluid, ambiguous, and often contradictory. Permanent norms, binding rules, and crisis-management mechanisms have yet to emerge among the new centers of power. Meanwhile, the legitimacy of the old order has fully collapsed. The discourse of a “rules-based international order” has lost meaning due to the growing gap between rhetoric and practice; rules are invoked only when they serve the interests of the powerful. Thus, 2025 can be defined as an “intermediate period”—but not an ordinary one. It has been the harshest, riskiest, and most instructive year of transition. As the old order collapses and the new one struggles to be born, the resulting vacuum is filled with crises, conflicts, and abrupt ruptures. Historically, such periods are those in which the gravest mistakes are made—and the most enduring outcomes are produced.

The United States Cannot Chart a Course

Pax Americana did not result from a singular, dramatic military defeat. Rather, it emerged from a layered and irreversible process of disintegration, as long-standing structural weaknesses became visible simultaneously. The erosion of moral legitimacy, declining naval deterrence, the unsustainability of a debt-driven financial order, and deepening distrust among allies constitute the core pillars of this breakdown. Israeli geopolitics and Anglo-Zionist strategic dynamics played a significant role in accelerating this collapse. The United States no longer functions as a hegemon that establishes order, produces norms, or provides stability. Instead, Washington increasingly relies on threats, sanctions, secondary sanctions, and coercive pressure. These instruments do not generate order; they deepen crises, intensify conflicts, and accelerate the formation of counter-blocs. “Leadership by consent,” the defining essence of Pax Americana, has been replaced by open coercion and fear production. This is not hegemony, but post-hegemonic drift. Events in Iran, Venezuela, Gaza, and Lebanon have marked a historical rupture in which the United States effectively invalidated its long-standing discourse on a “rules-based international order.”

Israel’s attack on Iran during ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations in Oman, and the collapse of indirect talks involving Hamas under Western protection, severely damaged American credibility. Similarly, the U.S. Navy’s sinking of Venezuelan and Colombian vessels in the Caribbean—outside the frameworks of international maritime law and the law of armed conflict—and the application of wartime-style blockades under the pretext of counterterrorism further eroded legitimacy. Throughout 2025, Washington’s disregard for international law, civilian protection, and proportionality revealed to the global majority that U.S. legal discourse functions as a selective, instrumental tool rather than a universal norm. At this point, even the concept of “double standards” proves insufficient; what has occurred is direct norm destruction.

By 2025, the United States had effectively lost its capacity to serve as a mediator. It became a party to conflicts—and often their architect. The claim of moral superiority collapsed, and the narratives of democracy, human rights, and freedom lost credibility due to their stark divergence from reality. This represents not merely an image problem, but the complete breakdown of the hegemonic consent-production mechanism.

The Swedish police have promised it will go nowhere, but the attempt by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to draw attention to the inappropriateness of María Corina Machado as a Nobel Peace Prize recipient raises a few salient matters. On December 17, Assange submitted a criminal complaint to the Swedish Economic Crime Authority and Swedish Crimes Unit. The legal complaint is directed against the Nobel Foundation, arguing that the pending transfer of 11 million SEK ($US 1.18 million) and the award of the prize medal to Machado violates the terms of Alfred Nobel’s will of November 27, 1895.

The will, binding under the terms of Swedish law, stipulates that the award of the prize and monies be given to a person who, during the preceding year, “conferred the greatest benefit to humankind” in pursuing “the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”

Given that the peace prize laureates are selected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, seeking to hold them accountable for their poor choice of awardee might have been a better starting point. But the complaint is alert to this, noting that the Swedish funds administrators have a fiduciary duty when it comes to disbursing the funds. “The Norwegian committee’s selection does not grant them criminal immunity.” Indeed, it was up to the administrators to consider such a decision made “in flagrant conflict with the explicit purpose of the will, or where there is evidence that the awardee will use or is using the prize to promote or facilitate the crime of aggression, crimes against humanity, or war crimes”.

Whatever the administrative minutiae, Assange’s effort is worth noting. Machado has become the unsavoury alternative to the Venezuelan incumbent, Nicolás Maduro, a figure who refused to accept the electoral returns for his opposing number, Edmundo González, in July 2024. González was essentially a pick by Machado, who has emerged as the empurpled, plumed candidate seeking Maduro’s overthrow. That she was the 2025 choice of prize recipient was galling enough for 21 Norwegian peace organisations to boycott the ceremony and prompt Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel to remark that,

“Giving the prize to someone who calls for foreign invasion is a mockery of Alfred Nobel’s will.”

Machado has made no secret of her approval of the buildup of US military personnel (around 15,000) off the coast of Venezuela since August, including a nuclear-powered attack submarine and the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford. She has “incited and defended the Trump administration’s use of lethal military force and preparation for war.” The US military has already committed, charges Assange, “undeniable war crimes, including the lethal targeting of civilian boats and survivors at sea, which has killed at least 95 people.” (President Donald Trump has liberally designated such individuals narco-terrorists.) The Central Intelligence Agency has been authorised to conduct covert actions in Venezuela. Parts of the Venezuelan military have been classified by the Trump administration as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO).

Since Assange submitted his complaint, Trump has ordered a complete blockade of sanctioned oil tankers entering or exiting Venezuela. The US has thus far seized two tankers, though the authorities have failed to distinguish which tankers are sanctioned or otherwise. The Panama-flagged Centuries, for instance, was not officially sanctioned by the US, showing that this administration is not one to be, as US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth put it, legally tepid.

A list of incitements to war by Machado are enumerated. They include the dedication of the award to President Trump for having “Venezuela in where it should be, in terms of a priority for United States national security”; a heartfelt endorsement of US military escalation as maybe being “the only way” in dealing with Maduro; warm appreciation for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “decisions and resolute actions in the course of the [Gaza] war” and the endorsement of extrajudicial killing of civilian boats in the Caribbean Sea as “visionary”. Hardly the résumé for a peacemaker.

Assange argues that the failure of the funds administrators to stop pertinent disbursements to Machado, in light of the material submitted in the complaint, “indicates ongoing criminal intent”. Such funds aided “a conspiracy to murder civilians”, violated national sovereignty through using military force and advanced resource theft (Machado’s promised reward to US firms of oil and gas resources amounting to US$1.7 trillion). In doing so, Nobel’s will and charitable purpose had been violated through “gross misappropriation, aiding international crimes […] and conspiracy.” They also breached Sweden’s obligations under the Rome Statute. By way of remedy, the “immediate freezing of all remaining funds and a full criminal investigation lest the Nobel Peace Prize be permanently converted from an instrument of peace into an instrument of war” was sought.

In an email to AFP, Swedish detective inspector Rikard Ekman showed little interest in taking the matter up. “As I have decided not to initiate a preliminary investigation, no investigation will be conducted on the basis of the complaint.”

While this complaint remains a purist’s attempt to return the peace prize to a more conventional reading (Assange thinks the UN Secretary General António Guterres and UN human rights chief Volker Turk eminently more suitable candidates), the practice of awarding this inflated award to figures of ill-repute and sullied reputation will be hard to shake. The ghost of former US security advisor and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, a man lauded for bringing peace to Indochina when he covertly indulged illegal bombing campaigns, not to mention war crimes, torture and an assortment of other blood sports, continues to loom large. It might well be time to abolish the Nobel Peace Prize altogether, and the committee responsible for it. It was never a strong indicator of merit, even if it offers the chance for some very dark humour for the reptiles to revel in.

One of my favorite anecdotes occurred sometime after 9/11 when Tony Blair, the prime minister of Great Britain, joined in with America’s declaration of war against terrorism. The brilliant playwright Harold Pinter, who would be a bitter and prolific critic of the ensuing war, was invited to respond before the House of Commons. He began his talk with a tale from British history during a wave of terror in Ireland.

“There’s an old story about Oliver Cromwell. After he had taken the town of Drogheda, the citizens were brought to the main square. Cromwell announced to his lieutenants: ‘Right! Kill all the women and rape all the men.’ One of his aides said: ‘Excuse me, General. Isn’t it the other way around?’ A voice from the crowd called out: ‘Mr. Cromwell knows what he is doing!’”

In Pinter’s telling, the voice of support from the crowd was Blair’s. Today it could and would come from the lips of Vance, Bondi, Hegseth, or Noem. Never has a modern American president been surrounded by such self-important sycophants and a Republican-led Congress with little gumption. Trump’s lack of interest in nonmilitary briefing papers and his obsession with social and political gossip has moved from information known by a few to standard operating procedure.

The US Department of Justice indictment of Venezuela’s kidnapped leader, Nicolas Maduro, is a political rant that relies heavily on coerced testimony from an unreliable witness.
The January 3 US military raid on Venezuela to kidnap President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores was followed by the Department of Justice’s release of its superseding indictment of the two abductees as well as their son, Nicolasito Maduro, and two close political allies: former Minister of Justice Ramon Chacin and ex-Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace Diosdado Cabello. The DOJ has also thrown Tren De Aragua (TDA) cartel leader Hector “Niño” Guerrero into the mix of defendants, situating him at the heart of its narrative.
The indictment amounts to a 25 page rant accusing Maduro and Flores of a conspiracy to traffic “thousands of tons of cocaine to the United States,” relying heavily on testimony from coerced witnesses about alleged shipments that largely took place outside US jurisdiction. It accuses Maduro of “having partnered with narco-terrorists” like TDA, ignoring a recent US intelligence assessment that concluded he had no control over the Venezuelan gang. Finally, the prosecutors stacked the indictment by charging Maduro with “possession of machine guns,” a laughable offense which could easily be applied to hundreds of thousands of gun-loving Americans under an antiquated 1934 law.
DOJ prosecutors carefully avoid precise data on Venezuelan cocaine exports to the US. At one point, they describe “tons” of cocaine; at another, they refer to the shipment of “thousands of tons,” an astronomical figure that could hypothetically generate hundreds of billions in revenue. At no point did they mention fentanyl, the drug responsible for the overdose deaths of close to 50,000 Americans in 2024. In fact, the DEA National Drug Threat Assessment issued under Trump’s watch this year scarcely mentioned Venezuela.
By resorting to vague, deliberately expansive language larded with subjective terms like “corrupt” and “terrorism,” the DOJ has constructed a political narrative against Maduro in place of a concrete legal case. While repeatedly referring to Maduro as the “de facto... illegitimate ruler of the country,” the DOJ fails to demonstrate that he is not de jure illegitimate under Venezuelan law, and will therefore be unable to bypass established international legal precedent granting immunity to heads of state.
Further, the indictment relies on transparently unreliable, coerced witnesses like Hugo “Pollo” Carvajal, a former Venezuelan general who has cut a secret plea deal to reduce his sentence for drug trafficking by supplying dirt on Maduro. Carvajal was said to be a key figure in the so-called “Cartel of the Suns” drug network which the DOJ claims was run by Maduro. If and when he appears to testify against the abducted Venezuelan leader, the American public could learn that the “cartel” was founded not by the deposed Venezuelan president or one of his allies, but by the CIA to traffic drugs into US cities.
As sloppy and politicized as the DOJ’s indictment might be, it has enabled Trump to frame his lawless “Donroe Doctrine” as an aggressive policy of legal enforcement, emboldening the US president to levy further threats to abduct or bump off heads of state who stand in the way of his rapacious agenda. This appears to be the real purpose of the imperial courtroom spectacle to come.

Macro-data during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom (UK) are shown to have significant data anomalies and inconsistencies with existing explanations. This paper shows that the UK spike in deaths, wrongly attributed to COVID-19 in April 2020, was not due to SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was largely absent, but was due to the widespread use of Midazolam injections, which were statistically very highly correlated (coefficient over 90%) with excess deaths in all regions of England during 2020. Importantly, excess deaths remained elevated following mass vaccination in 2021, but were statistically uncorrelated to COVID injections, while remaining significantly correlated to Midazolam injections. The widespread and persistent use of Midazolam in UK suggests a possible policy of systemic euthanasia. Unlike Australia, where assessing the statistical impact of COVID injections on excess deaths is relatively straightforward, UK excess deaths were closely associated with the use of Midazolam and other medical intervention. The iatrogenic pandemic in the UK was caused by euthanasia deaths from Midazolam and also, likely caused by COVID injections, but their relative impacts are difficult to measure from the data, due to causal proximity of euthanasia. Global investigations of COVID-19 epidemiology, based only on the relative impacts of COVID disease and vaccination, may be inaccurate, due to the neglect of significant confounding factors in some countries.
