Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,
Never has it wrung more true, the warning by Lord Acton (1834-1902): “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
We live in a morally bankrupt era, when the cultural hegemony operated by oligarchs has been reduced to a “one-size-fits-all” survival of the fittest format. We watch while the owners of capital cannibalize each other and attempt to use the rest of us to defend their privileges (i.e. what they believe to be their natural entitlement to wage war and to receive maximize war profits, as well as a host of other nefarious activities, which are supported by their insidious hypocrisy, their certitude of their own superiority, and their ever ready appetite for cooptation of popular culture, when required to achieve thier own venal ends). They are more than willing to eliminate poverty by ridding the world of the poor, and to assure a good life for themselves by benefiting from those who might survive their deliberate worldwide depopulation policies.
Our only hope for our survival stems from identifying fundamental internal contradictions that characterize the inherent weakness of this hegemony, and cause it to dissolve rather than metastasis into a malignant cancer, continuing its spread throughout the civil body politic. The antidote to this deadly disease of minority capitalist rule is, of course, a well-organized structure in support of “participatory democracy” at every level of social life. For this we must not wait. The rigged political hierarchy which increasingly rules our behavior, as well as our very thoughts, is putrid and can only bring us harm in the end. A vigilant reading of history must be our guide for a future worth living, free of would-be puppet masters --"Neither master nor slave be!"
The 26+ items below are essays and articles taken from the Anglophone social media; they reflect the cultural quagmire in which the extreme inequalities of today have engulfed us. The growing concentration of wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer capitalist speculators has caused a cultural pollution of historical dimensions, distorted by boldfaced lies and sophisticated manipulations. The current elitist political leadership has failed us, as we enter into a hopeless “free fall” in which we are compelled to abandon control over our lives.
The magnitude of alienation that we are now experiencing demands a deep re-evaluation of ideological principles, the sine qua non for commitment to the future.
The following selections illustrate how public discussion can affirm what the Italian poet, playwrite and film director, Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975), once noted: “culture is the only successful resistance to distractions.”

Trump’s immigration police will not be reined in by a party refusing to mount a real opposition.
As Immigration and Customs Enforcement terrorizes cities and literally murders people, a tycoon-funded Democratic think tank is criticizing those saying lawmakers should reduce the agency’s funding — all while Democrats provide enough congressional votes to keep ICE flush with cash.
This may seem like an exaggeration — but that’s what’s happened in the last two weeks:
ICE murdered a Minneapolis woman and appears to have murdered another person in the same city this morning.
Meanwhile, the Searchlight Institute — bankrolled by real estate moguls and run by former John Fetterman staffers — pumped out a memo criticizing those calling for abolishing ICE. The memo declares that the past “furor over ‘defund’ diverted attention from other reforms… sucked all the oxygen out of efforts at reform” and then concludes that “Democrats should embrace an aggressive plan to rebuild ICE.” As polling data show a plurality of Americans now want ICE abolished, Searchlight insists that cause is “at odds with the American public.”
Days later, congressional Democrats provided enough votes to continue funding ICE. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip votes against the measure.
It’s difficult to come up with the right metaphor to describe this dynamic. I usually revert to the Cheeto lock: authoritarianism is at the door, Democrats should be a thick Kryptonite Lock keeping it closed, but are instead a flimsy Cheeto.
But at this point, that metaphor understates what’s happening. The Harlem Globetrotters-Washington Generals comparison is more apt.
MAGA are the high-flying Globetrotters posterizing everyone on the court. The Democratic professional class — politicians, pundits, think tankers, and operatives — are the Washington Generals, paid a lot of money to be pantsed.

I am very pleased to welcome back to the blog Moldovan journalist-in-exile Iurie Rosca. My previous conversations with Iurie (“The fall from liberalism to global technocracy” and “Putin: An alternative perspective”) were both thought-provoking and wildly popular. Much has occurred since our last interview nearly two years ago. In fact, since then, Rosca was sentenced in absentia in his native land of Moldova as part of a politically motivated witch hunt. I am very grateful that Iurie agreed to answer a few questions, despite his difficult and precarious situation.
Iurie, in our last conversation from February 2024, you argued Putin was neither a bloodthirsty monster (as portrayed in the West) nor a fearless patriot (as presented by Kremlin-linked “alternative media”), but rather a mediocre careerist guided by a “merchant mentality”. Moscow paid Kiev to transit Russian gas across Ukraine right up until the start of 2025, and Russia continues to supply the United States with enriched uranium. (It still amazes me that Putin, bemoaning the possibility of losing the gas transit deal with Kiev, told Russian state media in December 2024: “War is war—but we supplied regularly and paid [Kiev], and still pay, money for [gas] transit [across Ukraine].” The phrase “war is war, but…” is simply awe-inspiring.) Do you see this same “merchant mentality” reflected in Russia’s approach to reaching a negotiated settlement with Washington to end the conflict in Ukraine?
What is important to remember in the case of Russia is that it is not the head of state who governs the country, but the private entities, big business, the clique of oligarchs who control the national economy, first of all the energy resources and the banking system. They are largely not Russian, but form the network of Israeli influence, which has also placed its people everywhere in state structures and in the Kremlin’s propaganda machine, “the media”.
The myth of Putin as a powerful personality, as a dictator, is just a smokescreen for this oligarchic and xenocratic regime that usurps power in Russia at the expense of the Russian people. Let us not confuse political theatre with the act of decision-making, the spectacle for the general public with real political power. . . . .

Stratfor, the private US intel contractor, has assessed that the protest-riots sweeping Iran will fail to achieve anything other than a US-Israeli assault; Stratfor, the “shadow CIA” which contracts for US intelligence and advises US-backed opposition movements, published an important assessment of the protest-riots in Iran this January 7.
Stratfor concluded that the ultimate utility of the unrest is to create an opening for a US-Israeli bombing campaign:
“While unlikely to collapse the regime, the ongoing unrest could open the door for Israel or the United States to conduct covert or overt activities aimed at further destabilizing the Iranian government, either indirectly by encouraging the protests or directly via military action against Iranian leaders.”
The private spying contractor explained that the external, US-backed Iranian opposition is too fractious and weak to affect change inside Iran, and that the institutions of the Islamic Republic remain united. Therefore, the only impact the protest-riots can achieve is to ease the path for a military campaign by the US and Israel.
Stratfor’s assessment ends by predicting that “renewed military strikes on Iran would also likely put an end to the current protest movement by leading instead to a wider display of Iranian nationalism and unity, a pattern observed after U.S. and Israeli strikes in 2025.”
This is one of the more sober pieces of analysis of the unrest in Iran to emerge from any US intel-aligned outfit. However, with CIA director and “Mossad stenographer” John Ratcliffe controlling Trump’s Iran briefings alongside White House chief of staff and former Netanyahu campaign advisor Suzie Wiles, the president may not have the benefit of such clarity.

The statement from a Google spokesperson came in response to an inquiry regarding the disappearance from the company’s ad transparency portal of numerous Mossad recruitment ads registered to Desi Banks Productions LLC, via the advertising identifier AR17833689873626693633. The company further stated that the deletion of the Mossad recruitment ads from its transparency portal is standard procedure for suspended accounts but would not clarify which policy or policies had been violated.
The international advertising-based espionage campaign — closely affiliated with the still-active “Blue Message” Telegram channel, X.com account, and Google recruitment form — were first exposed by this publication in September and frequently made use of deceptive, bait-and-switch appeals to child safety advice, further tagging several of its ads as related to beauty products. Other ads were overtly targeted at the recruitment of LGBTQ Iranians and spanned numerous European countries — including Germany, France, and the Netherlands — as well as the United States.
The suspension of the Banks-affiliated advertising account closely follows an investigation published on Monday by the American investigative outlet The Grayzone, regarding a recent wave of ads published by Banks’s production company which purported to recruit Mossad agents in relation to the recent wave of protests in Iran. One of the ads, an apparently AI-generated video of an Iranian protestor sitting in the middle of a smoke-filled street as tens of motorcycles approach him, is currently contained in the pinned post of the Blue Message campaign’s X.com account.

Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people has never been confined to Gaza alone.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the shattered, bomb-scarred, ghostlike refugee camps of Jenin, Nur Shams and Tulkarm, destroyed and emptied by Israel as a stark warning to Palestinians of the consequences of resisting occupation and genocide.
This decades-long settler colonial project in Palestine has multiple planes of erasure. While the world has, albeit through a distorted lens, focused on the catastrophe wrought upon Gaza, Israel has ensured that its plans for Palestinian elimination proceed apace in the West Bank.
Settlement expansion, settler attacks on farmers under the protection of Israeli forces, the routine theft of livestock, the destruction of village schools and homes and the forced displacement of Palestinians in the East Jerusalem neighbourhoods of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan all amount to systematic attempts to destroy, in whole or part, the Palestinian people and their relationship to their ancient homeland.
During a recent visit to the northern West Bank, I witnessed the physical destruction of refugee camps and was struck by how closely the lives of Palestinians there mirror the devastation faced by refugees in Gaza.

As deadly riots burn Iranian cities, Western media ignores the shocking wave of violence, turning instead to US government-funded NGOs for data. The one-sided portrayal has helped push Trump to the brink of authorizing renewed US attacks.
Western media has ignored a growing trove of video evidence showing terrorist tactics deployed across Iran by protesters described by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch as “largely peaceful.” Recent videos published both by Iranian state media and anti-government forces reveal public lynchings of unarmed guards, the torching of mosques, arson attacks on municipal buildings, marketplaces and fire stations, and mobs of armed gunmen opening fire in the heart of Iranian cities.
Instead, Western media has focused almost exclusively on violence attributed to the Iranian government. In doing so, they have primarily relied on death counts compiled by Iranian diaspora groups funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the regime change arm of the US government, and whose boards of directors are filled with committed neoconservatives.
The NED has taken credit for advancing the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests which filled Iranian cities throughout 2023 – and which also featured gruesome acts of violence ignored by Western media and human rights NGOs. Today, the NED is far from alone among the intelligence-aligned actors seeking to fuel the chaos inside Iran.
The Israeli spying and assassination agency known as Mossad issued a message from its official Farsi language account on Twitter/X urging Iranians to escalate their regime change activities, pledging that it would be supporting them on the ground.
“Go out together into the streets. The time has come,” Mossad instructed Iranians. “We are with you. Not only from a distance and verbally. We are with you in the field.”
Toppling Tehran through terror
Protests began in Iran in early January 2026 when merchants took to the streets to demonstrate against rising inflation rates triggered by Western sanctions. Iran’s government responded sympathetically to the bazaar protests, providing them with police protection. However, these demonstrations quickly dissolved, as an amorphous mass of anti-government elements seized the moment to launch a violent insurrection encouraged by governments from Israel to the US – and by self-proclaimed “Crown Prince” Reza Pahlavi, who has branded government workers and state media outlets as “legitimate targets.”
On January 9, the city of Mashhad became the scene of some of the most intense riots, as anti-government forces torched fire stations, burning fire fighters alive, while setting fire to buses, attacking city workers, vandalizing Metro stations and causing over $18 million in damage, according to local municipal authorities.
In Kermanshah, where anti-government rioters shot and killed 3 year-old Melina Asadi, groups of militants were filmed firing automatic weapons at police. In cities from Hamedan to Lorestan, rioters have filmed themselves beating unarmed security guards to death for attempting to impede their rampages.

We discuss the warmongers' determination to remilitarise Europe on the basis of lies and flawed logic, specifially, that Russia is weak and economically imploding, yet will still somehow invade and conquer Europe at any minute. We touch on the Budapest Memorandium, and how Russia's alleged ripping up of it is used to justify a warmongering posture, even through the Memorandum was not enshrined as a treaty, and that Russia's actions should not be viewed in a vacuum from countervailing factors that include NATO expansion in particular. We also discussed borders and how the UN Charter is not equipped to to deal with conflict after it breaks out, on the basis that most modern borders are both an artificial construct, emerging from the end of World War 2. We touch on the Monroe Doctrine or, indeed, now, the Donroe Doctrine and why that explains Trump's desire to reset relations with Russia. “When will we tally the costs of Russia's ‘snail offensive’ in Ukraine?”

The SMO has now lasted longer than WW2. What has been achieved?
On January 12, Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine reached its 1,418th day—the same number of days that it took the Soviet Union to triumph over Nazi Germany during WW2 (known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia).
The milestone did not go unnoticed in Russia, even though the Great Patriotic War was an entirely different animal. The senseless bloodbath we are currently witnessing in Ukraine more closely resembles a hyper-neoliberal WW1, in which mercenaries sit in trenches and wait for drones to murder them as the “belligerent parties” openly do business with one another. Nonetheless, the SMO is actually framed as a WW2 redux by the Russian government and its propaganda organs. The Cult of WW2 is Russia’s state religion, and Russians have been told for the last four years that they are finishing what their grandparents started by defeating the “Nazi regime” in Kiev.
If this is indeed the case, then surely it is not unreasonable to ask what has been accomplished over the past 1,418 days?
But actually, this is an unreasonable and very offensive question. It is common knowledge among independent media’s most independent intellects that Russia is fighting a brilliant and humane war of attrition, and that with each passing day Moscow’s victory over NATO-backed Ukraine becomes more total and complete. Indeed, the 1,418-day mark is cause for celebration: It means Russia is winning.
Confirmed and reconfirmed: Russia is using its ingenious “snail offensive technique” to score a “ten for one kill ratio” in Ukraine, Pepe Escobar recently explained.
The Russian snail offensive technique, combined with the mincing machine technique, has already, gradually, knocked out the extensive bunker system set up by NATO in Donbass, superior to the Maginot Line. These methods achieved a ten for one kill ratio in favor of Russia in relation to Ukraine. That’s another immutable fact on the battlefield. Only unredeemable fools deride Russia as “slow” and “weak”. The snail offensive will extend into 2026.
Yippee.
As Putin explained on February 24, 2022, the goal of the SMO is to kill as many Ukrainians as humanly possible over the longest possible period of time [I am being facetious; he actually said the exact opposite — Edward], so a “snail offensive” allegedly resulting in mass carnage (but only for Ukrainians, thank goodness!) is a very good thing, and means the SMO can end whenever Russia feels like ending it.
In fact, Russia could snail-storm the rest of Donetsk Oblast whenever it wanted to, and then snail-slither to Odessa and Kiev—but that would betray the snail-like brilliance of the snail offensive technique.
This is very logical, and supported by YouTube videos published by The Duran.
However, some people—curmudgeons like the late Marko Marjanović—disagree with the widely held view that the longer the SMO drags on, the more Moscow wins.
Today I will share with you an article by Marko on this very subject.
In “Russia says it’s fighting the whole world. Has anyone told Putin?”, Marjanović warned in April 2022 of the “baked-in” costs of the SMO, arguing that NATO’s decision to fund and arm Kiev meant that the longer the conflict dragged on, the more difficult it would be for Russia to achieve its stated goals—or achieve anything, really—in Ukraine.

Let’s do a mental exercise. Let’s try to imagine how much the US might be willing to spend to prop up Ukraine in its war with Russia?
What sum do you think is likely?
Would it be willing to spend as much as it spent on Afghanistan? Would it be willing to spend a lot more? Or a lot less?
On the one hand, Afghanistan was an American war where America’s own prestige and victory were on the line. On the other hand, there was the nagging feeling that they might not be the good guys.
And really what was the Afghan war for? To bring female education to the valleys of Pashtunistan? The benefit of backing Ukraine seems much clearer by comparison — to weaken, frustrate and humiliate Russia.
Backing Ukraine is the current hip thing and the current moral crusade. It has broad bipartisan support and — after 20 years of looking a lot like the baddies — American elites are embracing it as vindication that they are on the right side of history, and the benevolent empire after all.
I think Afghanistan has to be taken as the lower bound of how much the US is willing to spend.
After all, the US made no secret that in the case of a successful Russian invasion it intended to lavishly fund a Ukrainian insurgency. That it now gets to equip and bankroll a conventional war — which can inflict far greater losses on the Russians — instead, is Christmas come early for DC. . . . .

“This Is How NATO Ends, Not with Retreat but Greenland Intervention”

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy has stated that “it would be the end of NATO” if the US were to annex Greenland, a remark prompted by President Donald Trump’s declaration that Washington would “do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not”.
Such alarmist-sounding warning has now suddenly become part of mainstream debate across Europe, as Germany pledges a larger Arctic role and senior officials in France, Poland and Denmark openly discuss contingency plans against a threat coming not from Moscow, but from within the Atlantic Alliance itself.
Trump’s renewed fixation on Greenland cannot be dismissed as yet another rhetorical excess. Jeremy Shapiro (Research Director of the European Council on Foreign Relations) has outlined how US pressure could win Greenland, by exploiting economic vulnerabilities, manipulating security arrangements, and even resorting to outright military intimidation. The scenario is no longer purely theoretical. Media outlets such as The Guardian, CNN, Al Jazeera, CNBC and the Financial Times have all reported, in recent days, on emergency consultations within NATO and the EU about how to respond if a NATO member were to threaten another with invasion.
For years, analysts across the ideological spectrum predicted that Trump, sometimes wrongly portrayed as a “pro-Russian” isolationist, would “kill” NATO by withdrawing from it. Both Atlanticists and some anti-imperialist commentators converged on the same conclusion, albeit with opposite moral judgments. Ironically enough, Trump is not threatening the future of NATO through retreat, but is risking its collapse through escalation so aggressively that it turns the Alliance’s logic inside out. As it turns out, an alliance premise on collective defense against external threats cannot survive if its leading power openly threatens to conquer allied territory.
Back in 2024 I argued that Trump was no “peacemaker” at all. One may recall that, during his first term, the American leader scaled up aerial warfare, particularly in Yemen, relaxed rules for drone strikes, increased troop deployments in several theaters, and lowered the threshold for lethal “direct action” outside declared war zones.
Now, the recent US-backed intervention against Venezuela clearly signals Washington’s determination to reassert control over its hemisphere, thereby resurrecting a crude, 21st-century version of the Monroe Doctrine.
Many assumed that Trump’s hostility to NATO, far from being motivated by “isolationism”, was purely centered on burden-sharing issues. There was some truth to that. As discussed in mid-2024, Trump’s harsh rhetoric did prompt massive increases in European defense spending (which was probably his goal, anyway).
Trump in any case has effectively abandoned “America First” as a slogan of retrenchment and instead embraced aggressive interventionism worldwide, even going beyond the neo-neocons, with 19th century territorial ambitions, openly contemplating annexations and protectorates. This is the context of today’s crisis.
The irony then is striking. Trump may indeed “kill NATO”, but not with “isolationism” or by withdrawing US troops. He risks killing it by making Article 5 absurd. If Denmark is threatened by the US over Greenland, whom does NATO defend? If France and Germany are forced to plan against an American move in the Arctic, the Alliance’s credibility collapses from within. Thus, NATO’s purpose is undermined by American hyper-interventionism to encircle Russia and conquer resource-rich territories. Such interventionism recognizes no allies, only subordinates and vassals.
The broader strategic picture reinforces this reading. As I argued back in 2024, parts of the US foreign policy establishment were already urging for pivoting away from Europe, thereby forcing Europeans to “defend themselves” while Washington focused elsewhere. Yet Trump’s approach is even more radical and contradictory. He signals willingness to downgrade involvement in Ukraine, while simultaneously cornering Russia in the Arctic through explicit threats against Greenland.

French President Macron has announced he is moving troops to Greenland, to defend the autonomous Island and its owner, the Kingdom of Denmark, in case President Trump would attempt to take over Greenland.
It looks like other EU countries have done or are planning to do likewise, but they are not bragging about it like Macron does.
The world, western world, that is, could not become more ridiculous than that. Macron, a half-baked President of a half-baked country, threatens to attack, as in using weaponry against the US of A’s military? One or several European NATO member(s) – as divided as they are, the EU and its proxy, the European NATO — would dare to attack NATO’s “father” the United States?
Is this going to evolve into a conflict, as in one or more NATO countries against another NATO country, or several G7 members against another G7? Western absurdity seems limitless. George Orwell could have learned a lesson.
Would maybe Macron dare nuking the Pentagon forces? Former Russian President Medvedev is probably not far from the truth by saying, “They’ll just sh*t their pants and give up Greenland.”
The French President did not say how many troops, warships, warplanes, vehicles, tanks, guns, he would send to Greenland. But he did say that
