WHAT HAPPENED? (MAINSTREAM VERSION) . . . .
Lest you doubt the validity of this 1971 oddity, you should be aware that I’m not the first one to point it out. Not only has the economic and social disconnect that seemingly happened that year become the stuff of online discussion, debate and political memes for years now, it has even filtered down to the normiest website on the internet, Reddit.
Last month, Reddit user “/u/-Y34HB01-” posted the following tweet by Michael A. Arouet to the /r/PeterExplainsTheJoke subreddit with an exhortation to his fellow Redditors to explain the tweet to him:

Well, first this happened:
GUESS WHAT? IT’S HAPPENING AGAIN!
That’s right! 1971 may have been the year that the world witnessed the death of the Old Gold-Backed Monetary Order and the birth of the New Fiat Monetary Order, but 2026 may very well be the year that witnesses the death of the New Fiat Monetary Order and the birth of the New New Digital Fiat Monetary Order!

Of course, things are still very much up in the air, but there can be little doubt that we are witnessing the final years of the petrodollar system as we’ve known it. What comes along to take its place—whether a petroyuan or a shiny new BRICS-based CBDC or a US dollar-supporting stablecoin or something else entirely—has yet to be decided. But can anyone doubt that anything being proposed by any of these bankster-friendly psychopathic misleaders will be in the interest of the average working man or woman?
Does anyone believe that the inflection point we are at in 2026 will reverse the trends started in 1971? Or is it more likely that they will exacerbate those trends?
Of course, the answer to these problems is the same as it has always been. We have to stop relying on the banksters and their international monetary system. As I have explained in numerous reports over the years, there are many, many options on the table for us to construct a truly agoristic alternative economic system, one based not on government-issued fiat but on alternative currencies, on complementary currencies, on LETS-based and other timebank systems, on self-issued credit, on precious metals, on trade and barter in communities of interest and on all the other survival currencies that will help us transact outside the purview of our increasingly authoritarian governments.
In the meantime, it seems 1971 is catching up to us and we’re on the verge of 1971 part 2. The difference is that this time, we know what’s coming. The question is: are we prepared? Will US Nuke Iran to Save the Petrodollar?

Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,
The plutocrats who rule us are exceptionally cruel. As neurologist Antonio Damasio implies in his book, Descartes' Error, Emotion, Reason, and the Human Brain, that the human central nervous system is malleable, and some specialized regions of the brain --specifically those areas providing the functions of Feeling, and its derivates: Rationality, Memory and Will-- can atrophy with disuse, while some neural functions can expand with practice. Differentiating emotions (an external experience) from feelings (the mental recording of past emotional experiences), Damasio demonstrates how the central nervous system gains, with practical indoctrination, the ability to rationalize the vilest acts of aggression and the most obscene behaviors possible. In short, there are specific conditions which create “monsters” by modifying our mental capacities for experiencing 5 fundamental human feelings and any combinations thereof: Happiness, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. We would be well advised to consciously identify the banal, but monstrous, behavioral conditioning we are subjected to and examine those experiences which cultivate and propagate automatic obeyance and indifference to the will of illegtimate authorities. The study of history speaks to this enterprise, and this thought experiment has revealed many surprising discoveries over time, particularly in our own "Era of Genocide" and the "unacceptable" collaboration with mass murder.
The 26+ items below represent a selection of critical essays and articles taken from Anglophone social media which suggest fascinating evidence of willful self-sacrifice at the hands of others. We have been conditioned to obey from fear --both imaginary and real-- often nurturing self-delusions which promise escape from that which we fail to understand. Historically, class consciousness and emancipation has relied on understanding the contradictions of class interests around us and the willingness to respond in solidarity with others who share our understanding of the tyranny that oppresses us.
The architecture of our mind, the inherent structure of our habits can serve either to enslave us or liberate us from our masters’ control. The private accumulation of wealth and the disgusting collaboration with this massive theft against the interests of ordinary people have placed monsters in a position of power over us. The widespread collusion and the amassing of great sums of private material wealth, however, are insufficient to protect the owners from the consequences of these gross inequalities which they so dearly cherish.
Meanwhile, the elephant in the room remains the depopulation drive, led by oligarchs of all kinds. For many, it is simply too large to see. But it is an essential part of the history of human misery which has been created by: Inequality, War, Exploitation, and Centralized Control over our bodies and our minds.

There are various methods of perpetrating genocide, and like a boa constrictor encircling and crushing the life out of Cuba, even the front page of The New York Times states, March 27, 2026:
“Cuban Patients are Dying Because of U.S. Oil Blockade, Doctors Say.”
“In 2018 the infant mortality rate in Cuba was four per 1,000 births, lower than in the United States. By last year the rate had more than doubled to 10 deaths.
..the nation’s free healthcare system had long been a bright spot,
That is in part because the nation has spent about a fifth of its budget on health, about twice the global average according to the World Health Organization.”
Since early after its inception as a socialist economy, Cuba’s stellar achievement of the highest rate of literacy in Latin America, and the lowest rate of infant mortality in Latin America revealed the country as a model dedicated to human rights, evidence that its economic priorities were the most humane in the Western hemisphere, despite the barbaric sanctions that were inflicted upon it by the pathologically anti-communist United States. The large majority of the United Nations General Assembly states have opposed the sanctions each year since its imposition decades ago.
In the most recent edition of “The New Yorker,” Jon Lee Anderson reports:
“On the afternoon of January 29, a group of senior Latin American diplomats..met at an Ambassador’s residence, to discuss a new executive order from Donald Trump that declared Cuba a threat to “the national security and foreign policy of the United States.”
“The diplomats were shocked by its contents: ‘The perversion of the language is incredible.'”
Trump’s order had asserted, without any evidence, that Cuba “destabilizes the region through migration and violence,” promotes schemes “to harm the United States and support hostile countries,” and provides sanctuary to Hamas and Hezbollah. He vowed to cut the island off from oil imports and warned that any other nation that sought to supply fuel would be punished. For months, the island had faced daily electricity blackouts owing to a lack of fuel, along with severe shortages of food, water and medicine…Even garbage collection was virtually nonexistent”
“The diplomats had been meeting regularly to monitor Trump’s Cuba policy, which they viewed with increasing alarm..
“They say they want to harm the government, not the people,” one told me. “”Well this is harming the people.”…
“One friend couldn’t secure enough fuel to drive to the market for food, and couldn’t find medicine for a heart condition, so I brought some with me. Another, a widow in her late seventies, was hobbled by chikungunya, a mosquito-borne disease that causes painful swelling of the joints and extremities. (An anti-inflammatory was available on the black market, but at an unthinkable price.) Malnutrition and a breakdown in public-health services have led to an increase in viral illnesses. Since last autumn, tens of thousands of Cubans have been afflicted by chikungunya, along with dengue fever and Oropouche.
“Rather than force out the Cuban government, the U.S. would try to choke it into submission.”
Jon Lee Anderson continues:
“Cuba has been through hard times before. The mythos of the Revolution is built around the people’s ability to endure.. In the nineties, I lived in Havana with my family during the Special Period in the Time of Peace, as Fidel Castro called the ruinous years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.. With Cuba’s main patron gone, the economy imploded and oil imports plummeted…prostitution, long considered a bygone evil of the capitalist era, became rampant again. Malnutrition encouraged an epidemic of a blinding disease called optic neuropathy. Several people I knew died by suicide… Cuba’s emergency truly subsided only after Hugo Chavez was elected president of Venezuela, in 1998. Chavez and Castro signed a pact in which Venezuela agreed to provide Cuba with oil, in exchange for thousands of Cuban doctors, teachers, sports instructors, and security agents.”
The US imposed blockade is intended to condemn Cuba to doom: its globally admired and enviable education system and health care system are being destroyed, its sublime culture is desecrated, the world famous Cuban Ballet created by one of the greatest ballerinas in history, the sublime (and completely blind) Alicia Alonzo is now nonexistent. It was a culture incomparably superior to anything produced in the USA, and Alicia Alonso’s loyalty to the system in Cuba was fierce and inspiring. Indeed, during the Carter administration, the National Ballet of Cuba performed to a sold-out audience in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1978, with the blind and brilliant Alicia Alonso performing a dazzling “Carmen” with the gorgeous sensuality and brilliance of her partner, Jorge Esquevel, revealing the extraordinary cultural and human success of Fidel Castro’s socialist revolution in Cuba.
Cuba has never been a threat to the United States. However, its model of economic justice, the superiority of its health care system, and its prioritization of education, free and accessible to all Cubans, as well as its cultural supremacy revealed to the vast majority of struggling nations in the “developing” world the undeniable superiority of socialism in providing human rights to all its citizens, exposing, thereby the grotesque failure of capitalism to provide a decent standard of living for its citizens, as the obscene income inequality in the United States, and in the Western “free world” increases exponentially, and where the vast majority of their citizens are victims of a billionaire oligarchy, as the majority of US citizens are grossly impoverished, with hunger and homelessness increasing, visibly condemning the barbarity of capitalism.
In capitalism, the wife of an oligarch can spend $50,000,000 on an Hermes Birkin handbag, oblivious to and indifferent to the starving children living in homeless squalor right nearby her luxury apartment. This the oligarchs call “freedom.”

As 700 international solidarity citizens visited Cuba last weekend, Cuban-American Secretary of State Marco Rubio smirked at the humanitarian disaster his and Trump’s policies were wreaking on Cuba, a small island nation of around 11 million people only 90 miles off the tip of Florida. Rubio had predicted the Cuban government would fall from the disastrous policies, particularly the blockade of fuel to the island.
But Rubio’s plan was partially upended on Sunday night, March 29, when President Donald J. Trump decided to allow a Russian oil tanker carrying 100 tons of oil to deliver it to Cuba.

The U.S. Navy retired its only four mine-clearing ships from the Persian Gulf five months before this war started. Sent them to Philadelphia to be scrapped. Their replacements, billion-dollar Littoral Combat Ships, have never been proven to work. The Pentagon's own testing office says it cannot confirm the mine-clearing system is effective. Equipment works less than 30% of the time. This video explains how naval mines actually work, why they are nearly impossible to clear quickly, how Iran turned $1,500 weapons into a $3.2 billion-per-day problem, and why even Iran itself may not know where all of its mines are. Iran laid mines across the Strait of Hormuz starting March 10. On April 9, the IRGC published a navigational chart officially marking the international shipping lanes as a "danger zone" — the first time Iran admitted mines were in the water. All ships are now redirected to a 5-mile corridor near Larak Island, must submit full crew/cargo/ownership details to the IRGC, and pay a $1-per-barrel toll in Bitcoin or stablecoin. A standard oil tanker pays $2 million to pass through a waterway that has been free for all of recorded history. 600+ ships stranded. Oil at $109/barrel. Gas at $4.10/gallon (+37% since Feb 28). Global cost: $3.2 billion per day. The four Avenger-class ships that could clear these mines are in Sasebo, Japan — thousands of miles away. NATO allies have no minesweepers available. Timeline to clear the strait: late summer at the earliest. In 1988, one $1,500 mine nearly sank a US warship and cost $89.5 million to repair. Iran has thousands more. Was retiring those ships a budget decision or the most expensive cost-cutting mistake in military history?

My take on Artemis, posted last Monday, rubbed some readers the wrong way—as inevitably happens when you prove that some sacred cow was nothing but a load of bull. Now that the latest NASA “pioneers” (as Trump called them) have all splashed safely “back to Earth” (NASA having built some fake suspense about the craft’s damaged heat shield), I want to recommend some further reading/viewing that should open people’s eyes. (In Monday’s post I focused mainly on the intrepid work of Bart Sibrel, which I still strongly recommend, but which is only one of many must-see/must-read exposés.)
The most pleasurable way to start examining this subject is to read David McGowan’s thorough (and hilarious) Wagging the Moondoggie, which he published in 2009, when there were few such takedowns on the Internet. McGowan’s output includes jaw-dropping analyses of Lincoln’s assassination, the Boston Marathon bombing and—most chillingly—”the politics of serial murder,” among other state conspiracies. Unsurprisingly, Moondoggie, like MacGowan’s other works, slipped quickly out of print, but you can find it on the website maintained by his family. (He died of lung cancer, at 55, in 2015.) Ethiopia is covertly supporting Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces paramilitary from an army base in the country’s Benishangul-Gumuz region, Middle East Eye can reveal.
Satellite imagery analysed by the Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab and seen exclusively by MEE shows, over many months, a wide range of activity consistent with alleged military assistance to the RSF at an Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) base on the outskirts of the western city of Asosa.
From December to the end of March, as the RSF conducted intense cross-border attacks on Sudanese army positions in Sudan’s Blue Nile state, car transporters rolled in and out of the Asosa base carrying technical vehicles, while tents capable of holding up to 150 fighters appeared and supplies were dispersed.
In February, 200 technical vehicles were seen at the base. Unarmed technical vehicles were retrofitted with gun mounts capable of holding heavy machine guns, while vehicles consistent with those seen at Asosa were also sighted in the midst of RSF battles in Blue Nile.
The satellite imagery seen first by MEE and published in a report by Yale’s HRL later today, alongside photos and videos posted online, connects the car transporters and other vehicles seen at Asosa with Berbera, the Somaliland city port that hosts a base run by the United Arab Emirates.

A doctor, journalists and students are among the hundreds killed in the heaviest single day of bombing in Lebanon.
Since US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday, Israel has responded by launching its deadliest series of strikes on Lebanon since early March.
More than 200 people were killed in the massacre and over 1,000 wounded, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
Israel said it carried out 100 strikes in 10 minutes, marking the heaviest day of bombing in Lebanon, particularly in Beirut.
As with previous attacks, it has claimed it is targeting Hezbollah exclusively in an attempt to degrade the armed group's ability to attack it.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a video statement on Thursday that "more than 200 terrorists were eliminated yesterday".
Yet it's clear that scores of civilians were killed in the surprise attacks that struck across the country, including children who were being picked up from school by their parents.
