Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,
When
you discover a worm in the apple you are enjoying, you have a limited number of
practical choices: a) throw away the entire apple, b) remove the worm from the
apple, or c) continue consuming the apple along with the worm. A knowledge of biological science might be helpful in making
this decision; a metaphysics of cultural superiority, or special genetic
endowment, or some kind of exceptional divine right could cloud the issues and
the decision you must make.
Similarly,
a look at society through the metaphysical lenses of competition and private
ownership and social status, rather than focusing on communication skills and
creative production and collective well-being, is to blind oneself
to the necessary material relationships around us and to threaten the historic
fabric of which human society is composed. Production,
distribution, consumption –these are the fundamental activities required to
keep us alive and healthy. Capitalist controls over these essential activities
constitute a threat to our very existence : production
can be achieved by various forms of labor organization and technology applied
under a variety of conditions and at different levels of proficiency; distribution, likewise, can be achieved
more or less efficiently, depending on established incentives; and, of course, consumption can be governed by political
interventions which mediate between real human needs and production schedules,
by manipulating perceptions of private needs which are contrived scientifically
for ulterior motives. In this way we fulfill our “destiny”, but not necessarily
our human needs.
Most
of us know this and we simply go with the flow –hoping to string out a complete
lifetime of existence that is not too painful. Others go postal!
The
12 items below speak to some of the causes of our worsening collective
conditions in recent years. They offer readers a look outside the proverbial
black box to shed light on the increasingly high cost of sustaining an
existence from day to day, at the hands of our corporate overlords.

La société britannique de sécurité G4S va vendre toutes ses entreprises
installées en Israël. Tandis que les militants du mouvement BDS
(Boycott, Désinvestissement, Sanctions) revendiquent une victoire, le
plus grand groupe de sécurité au monde a déclaré que'elle
effectue cette
opération pour des « raisons commerciales ».
L'entreprise G4S annonce qu'elle quittera le marché israélien pour des «
raisons commerciales » mais le mouvement BDS contre Israël estime que
c'est le fruit de son travail de sensibilisation au désinvestissement.

La compagnie britannique G4S emploie 620 000 personnes et est présente
dans 120 pays à travers le monde. En Israël, elle réalise un chiffre
d’affaire de 100 millions de livres sterling (près de 130 millions
d'euros) et fait travailler 8 000 personnes. Elle a cependant décidé de
revendre ses entreprises présentes dans ce pays, a-t-elle annoncé
mercredi 9 mars lors de la présentation de son bilan financier annuel.
Selon
le Financial Times, le but est de « s’extraire d’une situation
dommageable pour sa réputation ». G4S est la cible depuis de longues
années de critiques de la part de mouvements pro-palestiniens qui lui
reproche d’être complice des violations des droits humains contre les
Palestiniens. En effet, G4S fournit des équipements et services dans les
centres de détention où sont entassés des milliers de Palestiniens. G4S
offre également ses services pour les check-points en Cisjordanie.
L'effet
domino de la campagne BDS
En 2014, après des manifestations près de ses bureaux à Seattle, Londres
et Johannesburg, la Fondation Bill Gates a soldé ses actions G4S qui
s’élevaient à 170 millions de dollars (152 millions d'euros). Récemment,
la section jordanienne de l'Unicef a rompu son contrat la liant à la
compagnie selon le mouvement BDS. « La pression de BDS fait en sorte que
les plus grandes entreprises mondiales réalisent qu’il est mauvais pour
le business de profiter des politiques d’apartheid et coloniales
d’Israël », explique, dans un communiqué, Mahmoud Nawahaa,
porte-parole
du Comité national palestinien de BDS, faisant remarquer « un effet
domino ».
Lors
des huit derniers mois, les multinationales françaises Veolia,
Orange et le groupe irlandais de matériaux de construction CRH ont
toutes quitté le marché israélien. En janvier 2016, l’Église méthodiste
unie (12 millions d'adeptes en 2014 dans le monde dont 7 aux États-Unis)
a inscrit cinq banques israéliennes sur liste noire en raison de leur
complicité dans la violation des droits humains à l'encontre des
Palestiniens et dans le financement de colonies, illégales au regard du
droit international.
Pour
Mahmoud Nawahaa, Israël est incapable d’« arrêter la
croissance
impressionnante du (mouvement) BDS », et ceci en dépit de ses efforts
pour « salir et déligitimer notre mouvement
non-violent grâce à des lois
anti démocratiques en Europe et aux États-Unis afin de taire la
contestation et supprimer la liberté d’expression ».
