Subject: The Trials and Tribulations of “Law Enforcement” under Late Capitalism and Birth Pangs of the New Society.

Grenoble, May 31, 2020

Dear Colleagues and Friends of CEIMSA,

Below please find links to several exposés of what is going down in the United States today. As you will see, the Genie is out of the bottle and the “Forces of Order”, along with mercenary provocateurs, have been called out in American cities to promote "The New Order.” (Shades of the famous Reichstag Fire, Berlin, February 27, 1933.)

Sincerely,

Francis Feeley

Subject: [MCM] There's somethin' happenin' here, / And what it is, is all too clear (or should be)

As US cities coast to coast lock down all over again, spectacularly violent protesters

having brought on busts and beatings by police, and mayors announcing curfews in

LA, Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus, Portland,

Rochester, Miami, Salt Lake City and Milwaukee—and as I sit here in Greenwich Village,

listening to helicopters droning overhead, and police cars shrilling up and down Broadway

—I'm moved to send, again, the link to the video "Battlefield America," about what went

down in Minneapolis (also under curfew), and a link to a second video, on the very similar

protests that rocked Baltimore two years ago:

Things look bleak indeed tonight; but they will be much worse, and for a longer time,

if we don't face the truth, ASAP, about what's happening here—much as it happened

in Teheran in 1953, Santiago in 1973 (on 9/11), and Kiev in 2014. We need to know that

history—and that that past is prologue.

Mysterious pallets of bricks have been filmed throughout major riot hotspots across the country, in what appears to be more evidence that organized groups are using the George Floyd protests to incite chaos and terrorism throughout the US.

Subject: [MCM] 15-man wrecking crew reportedly went down 2nd Ave. in NYC, "smashing stuff" AFTER the peaceful protestors had gone

From Lou Miller (my son):

Check out this picture [attached]. Rumor has it there were about 15 guys going down 2nd Ave smashing stuff,

long after the peaceful protesters had left.

I walked down Second Ave. on my way home right after we spoke, and it was already done. Cops were mostly barricaded in on 5th street between 1st and 2nd, which is where the precinct house is located. They were there in force, I assume to defend their headquarters: i.e., doing nothing.

Behind the scenes with the Gates Foundation’s ‘strategic media partners’

I wasn’t actually allowed behind the scenes at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s recent meeting in Seattle entitled “Strategic Media Partnerships.”

The Gates Foundation funds a lot of media – more than $25 million in media grants for 2012 (but still less than 1% of the budget).

I’m media but I wasn’t invited. I asked if I could come and report on it, but was told the meeting was off the record. Those attending included representatives from the New York Times, NPR, the Guardian, NBC, Seattle Times and a number of other news organizations, non-profit groups and foundations. Not all were grant recipients, or partners. Some just came to consult.

Spoiler alert: Nothing sinister happened. But there’s still a story here.

The public doesn’t see much coverage of the media’s collaboration with the Gates Foundation. Yet it’s substantial, influential and, despite the media’s distaste for reporting on itself, I feel compelled. So here’s my news analysis….

I should note that because I have no editor or talent for personal restraint, I intend to expand my analysis to the broader issue of the Gates Foundation’s multiple ‘messaging’ avenues for influencing the public narrative. Media and messaging.

More personal disclosure: I think it’s a good thing the Gates Foundation has decided to shore up the crumbling media business. Somebody has to pay for journalism and chances are you, yeah you, don’t pay your fair share. The full-page ads for women’s underwear, tires and the latest gizmos just don’t cut it anymore. NPR’s new global health beat is partially paid for by Gates. The Guardian’s Global Development page is as well.

Dear friends,

These are the last words of George Floyd, a 46-year-old man who died as a US police officer pinned him down, kneeling on his neck for seven minutes, until he suffocated:

"It's my face man
I didn't do nothing serious man
please
please
please I can't breathe
please man
please somebody
please man
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
please
(inaudible)
man can't breathe, my face
just get up
I can't breathe
please (inaudible)
I can't breathe sh*t
I will
I can't move
mama
mama
I can't
my knee
my nuts
I'm through
I'm through
I'm claustrophobic
my stomach hurt
my neck hurts
everything hurts
some water or something
please
please
I can't breathe officer
don't kill me
they gon' kill me man
come on man
I cannot breathe
I cannot breathe
they gon' kill me
they gon kill me
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
please sir
please
please
please I can't breathe"

Then his eyes shut and the pleas stop. George Floyd was pronounced dead shortly after.

Right now, We have a choice. This can just be one more tragic death at the hands of US police -- or the moment this change.

We are a movement of more than 60 million people -- when we all speak up, it is deafening.
So let's raise our voices to join everyone calling for an end to these racist killings, and push those in power to do the same.

Click to sign this open letter, and when it's massive, Avaaz will publish it in major US newspapers and websites around the world. Let it be an anthem to end the killing and honour all those we've already lost.

As people of the world, we grieve the loss of another life at the hands of US police.

We stand in community with everyone who's hurting.

These brutal, racist deaths must end. Each is a wound to the heart of our humanity and a shameful, indelible mark on that great flag of the United States of America.

Racism thrives in the company of silence -- and we can't be quiet anymore. World leaders, governments, fellow citizens: racism is a problem that belongs to us all. It is our fight.

We call on those in power to make any and all changes to stop these killings:
- Hold Trump accountable.
- Hold US embassies accountable.
- Hold police forces, government agencies, companies, and each other accountable.

We pledge to do the same, calling out and fighting racism wherever we see it.
Rest in Power, George Floyd.
It will not be in vain.

With endless hope,

Mike, Marie, Meetali and the whole team at Avaaz
