Friends, I'm quite
moved by the outpouring of support from scores of you, since my
announcement that I'm taking a
short break from my daily news service, and also
vis-à-vis my
predicament at NYU.
Many have asked if
there is anything that one might do on my behalf. I think it could
be
helpful if you let Andrew
Hamilton, NYU's president, know how you feel about the dean's
"review" of my "conduct" in the classroom
(and beyond). An email of polite protest, noting
how this episode
reflects on NYU, could help decide him to step in. (He's been silent
since
FIRE wrote to
him, detailing the gross impropriety of what's gone down, and on that
basis
urging him to quash this
process of investigation, which, since it's unclear just how
they're
doing it, or what its
status is, or when exactly it will end, is straight outta Kafka.)
FIRE's letter is
attached, as are my colleagues' letter and my
point-by-point rebuttal.
