The greatest compliment I've ever received came from a young guy named Jay. He was a waiter in a Cajun cafe' here in Austin. He'd heard me speak and been reading my stuff, and he said: “You give power to my voice. Be­fore, it was just volume, but now I have information and connection.”

 

That's awfully nice to hear, for that's exactly what I hope my modest work might amount to-giving strength to others so together we can do what needs to be done.

 

Of course, I too draw my strength, ideas, information, and inspira­tion from others. The Powers That Be want you to feel alone, weak, and hopeless, but that's nonsense-not only do we progressives have the numbers, but we also have tremendous activist resources to draw on, in­form us, and-most important-connect us.
