The Center for the Advanced Study of American Institutions and Social Movements (UFR d’Etudes Anglophone à l’Université Stendhal) invites you to see a remarkable award-winning film, which depicts a 19th Century slave revolt in the Caribbean.

Starring Marlon Brando, this Franco-Italian Film is about a Caribbean sugar-producing colony during the mid-19th Century.

Directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, the film BURN tells the story of a slave revolt on a small Island, Quelmada, which is struggling for its national independence from colonial domination.

This film is an historical fiction ; based on a composit of many true historical events, including the Haitian War of Independence, led by Toussaint L’Ouverture at the beginning of the 19th Century.
